The title is an attention getter. Here is a few facts I would like the community to consider and discuss:

1. PR:BF2 currently has 75 servers running. If all 75 servers had 64 players playing that would equate to 4800 players.

2. PR:BF2 currently has 400 playeres logged on about 6-7 servers.

From the first fact we can deduce that there is great intrest in running servers but from the second we can deduce that less than 10% of that power is actually being harnessed by players in the servers. On one side of this equation we have a community who can power over 75 servers, and on the other the conclusion that only 10% is being used. The solution to me seems that there does not need to be as many servers but that we could still use this massive intrest in running servers to make the few that are actually being used, better. None the less admins want their control and players want low pings, so their is a use for some redudant servers, but as you read this over 90% of the community's server hosting potential is not being used. With the need for more powerful servers to handle the 100p or 128p + code I see this as a convient topic to discuss as I wait for one of these 64 player servers to open a slot up for me. Such massive inefficency just seems wrong for no one to notice and discuss.

In my opinion, many of the never-visited servers are run simply because the respective clans/communities want to have a server, whether it is used much or not. They're mostly used by small communities, and occasionally swarmed by pubbers when they happen to be relatively filled with regulars at a time when the "usual servers" are down / on low population / running an undesired map.

I assume that it would be difficult to convince these server hosts to work together to produce a single, well-visited and well-administrated server; although cost would indeed be reduced and performance included, there would be a massive confilct of interest because one of the main motivations for current server hosts is to have their name displayed, which naturally is harder when you are only one of many.

The PRTA attempted to unite communities already, sort of. Still, that did not result in the PRTA server replacing all the small clan servers - there appears to be a strong interest in keeping small, exclusive servers as opposed to united, big, cooperation-intensive projects.

Two ways to look at the future of PR with the 1.0 and 128+ release.

1. Servers will be even less populated as all the "cattle" runs into one of the half way populated server
2. Players old and new will create a larger community. Maybe would should all donate $5,000 USD and get a NFL Super Bowl half-time ad for getting our message out there

Humans as people don't tend to cooperate as much as we would like. Agreed with above saying that many just want their small clan servers for matches or random pub events.

I should probably be a bit more serious about this.

With the 1.0 launch, the players will come(Giggaty), and then they'll play on the servers.

But there is always a very sharp dip afterwards, so we can only realistically expect a similar sized community a month to three months after launch.

This boils down to the creation or reinforcement of groups like PRTA and its clans for Euros and perhaps another group for Aussies and 'Murcans. That is of course, only if there is a necessity for combining resources.

400 x $5,000 = $2,000,000. We could buy a nice little 15-second bumper!

It was worse before. There was like 120 servers and only a few was filled.

Does anyone notice that almost all of the populated servers have [MUMBLE ONLY] tags on them? In my opinion, that is one of the main reasons why there are so little players in relation to the community. I can barely join a squad now, because the first message I often hear is ZOMG N00B GET MUMBLE, GTFO. And the thing is, I can't get mumble, because my parents would flip out if they heard me talking to other people online. Please, please stop this behavior, because it ruins the game experience for many people who, also, for some reason cannot get mumble.

You want to say that you play PR without voice communication? How can you do this, communication is this, that make PR so awesome. So how would you follow SL order when you don't use mumble? How will you report enemy position? By typing it on chat? Before you do this you will be already dead.

Look guys, all I said was that maybe we should cut down on the elitism here, it makes it more uncomfortable for newbies to play. You don't have to respond that viciously. Plus, I've played on multiple servers without mumble. I wasn't killed while typing at all. Some people are putting off a lot of new players who have the ability to be very skillful at PR. I didn't say everybody.

We have thought about this issue a while ago, coming to the conclusion that it is a bit of a mine field.

If say we rent a dedicated server from our provider for us *NwA* and run 2 servers from it and then run a training/war server. We have used our 3 PR licences for the PR servers. I dont know if the licence is IP tied or just to the person who admins the licence so its tied to our clan name.

If another clan rents server space of us to run there PR licence servers or just one. Then we are providing a service to them. Thus having to provide IT support for any issues they have with there set up. We could set up a virtual server but that means renting more IPs from our provider thus adding to the cost. So taking in all these factors it is in effect most cost effective for the smaller clan to rent a game server rather than paying to rent server space from a larger clan.

Then you need to consider acces, dose the rentee get remote desktop acces so they can do what they wish to there server, setting up acces rights to files and other areas of our server. What happens when things go wrong?

Dose that then make us a server provider and then have to apply for a commercial PR licence, or will we be breaking our server rental with our provider by sub letting our server resources. Would that also be considered as NwA becoming a company and liable for taxes and accounts for taking money to provide a service.

Its not that big clans or communites wouldnt like to offer server space, its just not that easy.

If any clans would like to use the *NwA* war server for clan matches scrims or practising squad work and dont have acces to a server you are more than welsome to drop a note on our forum and speak to some one about what you need. We will even set up admin rights for them on that server for there session. If Its there its empty 99% of the time. So use it when we arn't.

Honestly get mumble, I've had plenty of people in my squads when Sl'ing that used mumble but had no microphone. They would type to me in-game but I could talk to them using mumble, really wasn't an issue. Still I'd get microphone, as stated it massively improves the gaming experience.

I really don't understand why your parents wouldn't want you talking to people online, unless you only play in the early hours of the morning or something

...That isn't our fault...No one cares that you can't use mumble because your parents would flip.

You can be on mumble and just listen you know...

Yeah dude, get mumble! it's worth it. try to convince your parents you're not easliy led to meet people online who will supply you sweets.. LOL seriously just explain to them that its safe and how it works. What is the difference playing an online game with people where the game has VOIP to not being allowed to use Mumble. I would use those lines but on the defence with your parents situations, we do say some **** whilst on mumble which is so past the "watershed"

Not to de-rail but...
On a serious note, why do you parents not allow you to talk to someone online? Its not like its a social meeting place. Are you not allowed to use skype either to call one of your friends.

And if I may ask, how old are you.

Do not take this as an attack in any way, im just curious as to why you parents wont allow it. Its so far from any experience I have with children and parents.
