Thats a truly healthy number for a mod that is years old, for a game that is seven years old itself. I wouldnt necessarily put it down to how great the game is but the environment it creates for a highly refined style of online play - teamwork. Not just 'common effort' (where everyone happens to be on the same faction, working towards the same goal), not just 'squadwork' (you and a few friends working together against a common foe) but that big ol 'Teamwork' (where you, friends, acquaintances and strangers consciously unite and actively communicate to conquer a like-wise foe).
I am unaware of any other game out there promotes such a high degree of this style of gameplay, with such a low requirement of pre-organisation. Its not three weeks between each scrim you and your clan organise, but you can hop into a server and expect players to know.

Could you make your picture in the first post a little smaller & more blurry? I think I was able to figure out what one of the characters was

when I started playing yesterday (around 19 GMT) there were more than 500 players.

the [QRF] server was full because of a match. You cannot really count all of them, because not everybody would have played.

lol, that was when we had that crappy server for a really cheap price. I remember that...I was campaigning for a senator in Arizona too. Good times.
This had to be near a release too. That was never the norm for any period of time after after the main thrust of a launch.
So, we wait for a launch to bring us back and give the lesser known servers a chance at proving themselves as a quality server.

I forget my mothers birthday but i still remember this day like it was yesterday, now that was the day to be a PR player, none of this 2 servers to choose from business!!! looking at some of the servers on that list as well, T&T, UKWF, RT, HeroS, all servers i really loved playing on. Oh to have that back again.

I have a hunch this was 0.95, for a few days after the release there were loads of full servers.

It has always been like that after a new release. Over time people stop playing, but when a new patch is released they all come back. As they will with 1.0
And you can see on some of the server names in that sreenshot that this was just after 0.9's release.
