Lost Connection to the Server

About a week ago, I have started to lose connection while in game. Basically, after 5-20 minutes of gameplay, I'll just get kicked back to the BF2/PR menu with the message "You have lost your connection to the server".

Ran Wireshark to capture data packets since it seems similar to the issue that popped up since PB released their update (cannot connect to server on the first attempt). Turns out, my issue may be related. When trying to connect to a server the first time, 6 of the last couple packets are the same set of 6 bytes of outgoing data to the evenbalance master servers (F5D000000000). Similarly, when getting disconnected in game, 6 of the last couple of packets are 6 bytes of outgoing data to the game server (CIA, HOG) F5D0000000F0. On another capture, the same data was attempted to be sent to the game server for a period of 2 seconds before losing connection.

Anyway, not sure what the devs can do about this. I've submitted another ticket to evenbalance to update my previous ticket, but who knows how much effort they will spend on fixing it.

This problem has been discussed in a few different threads. I think the general consensus is that it is a PB issue.

It happens to me too, Almost exclusively on full servers.

I updated punkbuster manually to try to fix it, It now happens less frequently(but still happens) AND now I have to join a server twice to get in game.

Sooo, you can try to update punkbuster manually, just expect an additonal bug to show its ugly face :)

To clarify, this thread is for losing connection ~20 min into playing PR.

It's actually because of the updated PB that this is a problem. I think it is caused by the same bug in the latest PB update that forces people to try to connect to the server 2x.

I've had the random 'connection to server lost' while playing for about a year. I updated punkbuster manually to try to fix that problem. Thats when I got the other problem of lost connection at first attempt. I don't think the 2 are the same, or caused by the same update.

When there is a fix for this bug, I will be sooo happy.

Still disconnects after 15-20 ingame? You tried exactly what snipehunt proposed?

I'm getting the same problem, Ive tried various methods out there and still no success. PR is unplayable to this point.

I have the Origin digital copy.
Ive done a fresh reinstall.
Manually updated PB.
Changed my Routers MTU settings.
Set PnkBstrB and A to Reset Service.

I was able to play PR fine before when I had the CD version of BF2 couple months ago, not sure if the version matters or not.

FIREWALL SET TO GAMING MODE?

You can download the free version of bitsum processlasso, Process Lasso - Automate and optimize priorities, CPU affinities, power profiles, and much more! it is a task manager alternative that has a cool option to force a process to stay active, you can start up PR then alt tab out, open processlasso window, right click on pnkbstrB.exe and set it to "keep alive" as a persistent attribute, and give it high priority as a persistent attribute.

How far into the server can you get? DO you load in completely then get kicked, or kicked instantly upon connecting?
I use a program called Process Lasso that has options to change default priorities.

also, be sure to set PnkBstrA.exe and PnkBstrB.exe to run as administrator.

to do this, go to C:/Windows/System32 (if running in 64-bit then C:/Windows/SysWOW64)
right-click PnkBstrA.exe
Compatibility
check 'Run as Administrator'
OK
right-click PnkBstrB.exe
Compatibility
check 'Run as Administrator'
OK

Already done that, I usually get kicked out between 5 to 25 minutes during ingame.
This goes with all servers, I'm going to check if this problem persists with vBf2.

Alright reinstalling PR with a direct connection, hopefully it works. I'll post outcome.

-- Also I had defrag'd my PC previously and that didn't work unfortunatly.

Unfortunatly I'm going have to call the white flag here, after experiencing severe jimmy rustlin' in regards to the issue I decided it's enough. Ive tried every possible fix I could find out there and Ive had no success. :(

I honestly think it may be a router issue, if anyone wants to help out my router is "WRT54G2"

Disable router firewall completely & add your computer as the DMZ temporarily. There are some routers that flag BF2 voip traffic as an attack and thus cut off the connection to the server. If you get kicked then click the same server it should show 2500ms ping whereas other are fine. That will confirm it's the above problem [router firewall issue]. It's particularly prevalent in Belkin routers
