Hey,
I am new to Project reality and I am wondering if I need the server files to run a Private LAN game with some of my buddies.
Thanks,

Yes.
Please keep in mind
User Licenses are for individual users, clans, and other small organizations who wish to host public and/or private (passworded) Project Reality Servers. By default, a single User License is allowed to add up to 3 game servers and 5 license moderators. These servers must be internet facing (i.e. respond to server queries), and hosted at a data-centre. We do not issue licenses for home hosted or LAN-only servers.
Full requirements are detailed
here
I think some people get around this by creating a vpn and connecting to a local game... but I don't know anything about that sorry.

All the server files for a LAN or Private (passworded, but publicly available) game are included in the files you already have for a game.
However, you need the DEV team's approval to run a public game. With such approval they will give you the necessary file for that.

You can run a dedicated server on your own pc / LAN server, or simply host a game on your game pc (without it being a dedicated server). No problems there, the only rule you have to follow is: have fun!

Hamachi and Tunngle simplify things. I, however, am of Greek and German descent so I chose the hard way: port forwarding or DMZing in my router.
