Hello King Faust,
welcome to Project Reality forums,
You MUST log in to vanilla BF2 once and create or retrieve a user account.
You MUST join a vanilla BF2 online multiplayer server once also.
try this and tell us if it fixes your problem,
Q: After logging into PR, I get an error message You must use "pr.exe" to run Project Reality. Please update your shortcuts as required.
Quote:A: Firstly, take note of the message under that, IF YOU HAVE JUST CREATED A NEW ACCOUNT, PLEASE RESTART PROJECT REALITY. So, if you have just created or retrieved an account, simply quit out of PR, then launch it again. It should allow you to log in.
If the error still shows, then you are not using "pr.exe" to run Project Reality. You cannot launch PR from the community tab in BF2, it must be launched from pr.exe. Check your desktop shortcuts, and make sure it looks similar to this:
(Default Directory 32bit Windows)
Target:
"C:\Program Files\EA Games\Battlefield 2\mods\pr\pr.exe"
Start In:
"C:\Program Files\EA Games\Battlefield 2\mods\pr"
Target:
Default Directory 64bit Windows
"C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\pr\pr.exe"
Start In:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\pr"
If that STILL doesn't work, you are sure that you are using pr.exe, but you still get the error, try deleting your My Documents/Battlefield 2 folder, launch vBF2, retrieve your account, customize your settings, and join MP game once to assure it runs fine. Then quit and run PR, and see if that works.

There are a few different causes that can have this problem show up.
The most common is you did not install PR using a Windows Administrator Account.
"Always run PR as an administrator."
Please read through this and make sure you installed BF2 and PR correctly.
'[R-COM wrote:LITOralis.nMd']I'll post this and I put in bold the most important part. Let your friend read through this and check to see if he installed in the correct order.
[R-COM]LITOralis.nMd wrote:Was BF2 installed and working before you installed PR? Was BF2 patched to 1.5 ?
Can you log in to vanilla BF2?
If BF2 was already working, we'll suggest one course of action. (Could be firewall/antivirus/router/installation error/etc)
IF BF2 was just installed NOW so you can play PR, all the parts have to be installed in proper order.
Please read below and make sure you installed BF2 and PR in this order:
Here is the installation guide with download links:
PR:BF2 Support - Project Reality Forums
https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f27-pr ... guide.html
Here is the installation guide in tl;dr format:
Install BF2.
Run BF2.
Note the version number on the bottom left corner of the log-in screen. Write it down.
log in or create a user account.
join online game.
adjust your audio and video settings now for convenience.
exit BF2.
Reboot.
(Optionally if you bought it) install Special Forces Addon.
Run BF2.
log in.
join online game.
exit BF2.
Reboot.
install 1.41 FULL PATCH.
Run BF2.
log in.
join online game.
exit BF2.
Reboot.
install 1.5 PATCH.
Run BF2.
log in.
join online game.
exit BF2.
Reboot.
Download and install 0.973 full installer.
Start the PR shortcut on desktop.
log in.
exit PR.
Download and install the PR 0.973 to 0.981 Patch
(If it CTDs, Edit the PR shortcut as described below.)
Start the PR shortcut on desktop.
log in.
join online game.
If you crash at the splash screen, or the screen goes black and then crashes to desktop, try to start PR in windowed mode by following the directions below:
Edit your PR shortcut and ( what AfterDune said ) put this in it
Code: Select all
Code:
"D:\Program Files\Battlefield 2\mods\pr\pr.exe" +restart +menu 1 +fullscreen 0 +szx 1280 +szy 720
Dont just copy paste this, but adjust to your install location. Make sure you dont omit quotation marks or it wont work.
If you start in windowed mode and it CTDs, a Message will pop up telling you the problem. Take a screenshot or write this down and post it to this thread.
You can then download Anders Soundmod at your discretion.

I've re-installed bf2 1.4-1.5 -PR 0.973.
Now I can't open PR.
I don't get an error but pr just closing. I tried "run as admin" and compatibility mode. But didn't work.

What OS are you using?
Are you sure you installed PR while running as a Windows User Account with Administrator privileges?
I'm not sure what the problem is here,
where did you download PR from?
I suggest going to your Battlefield 2\mods\pr\ directory, and finding TR.exe, right click->Properties, and set to Run as Administrator.

You need to run PR in a window to get the bootup error message. I'll bet it's something with resolution out of range.

I'm sure.

I did download from " Pelitutka" (FI mirror)

Didn't work.
