New PR player

Hi from a mostly Company of Heroes player at a semi competitive level. I play various FPS games like DayZ, Halo 4, DoD, and even CoD...but I saw some PR vids on youtube recently and thought wow I finally found a good realistic mil sim game (I don't like Arma 2 for a few reasons).

So a few questions:

1) Are PR vets very welcoming of new guys or annoyed by them "l2p noob" etc

2) What are some good active servers?

3) Is it recommended to join a clan, or are most players just acquaintances that get together on mumble?

Cheers, looking forward to some fun rounds.

PS: Is anyone familiar with OnkelSam? He is lead dev for the BSS CoH Modern Combat mod, we both do some staff work for the new coh2 fansite @ coh2.org :P

PR vets are generally welcoming. However, we highly recommend reading the manual and watching the deviation tutorial on YouTube. Also, do not squad lead as a newb. Join squads and learn from SL vets. Then when you feel up to the challenge, try your hand at SL.

Good Luck.

US servers: HOG and CIA. BW will have a 64 player server back up by Feb 1st
Euro: German, MERK, and NWA are fun
AUS: BigD

I recommend meeting people and clans in mumble for a month or so before you jump into a clan. You do not need to be in one but I find it makes the experience better if you surround yourself with quality like minded members

If anyone approaches you called "Wicca" and you value your kidney's run away.

Basically I hated this slow paced game for the first month because of all the learning but after that it has become a drug. Never have I seen Teamwork and function as a squad come together. You Need to Download and install and set it to always run as admin, PR mumble 1.0. It is simply amazing. It gives you directional chat with not just your squad but the whole team.

We just got a big patch 4 weeks ago that has Vietnam, WW2, The Falklands(google it). BAsically you need to start playing Servers to get to know people. So many different "groups".

Hey,

welcome to the mod and to the forums

1) Don't try and grab valuable team or squad assets until you're familiar with the game and you'll be good. Stick to your squad leader, ask him what kits he wants and follow his directions. Let you're squad know you're new and you'll pick up a bunch of tips for free :D

2) See PRSPY in the forum header - try them all out :D

3) Wait to join a clan imo... all are different and it's probably best to see who's gaming style suits you best.

1) Yes, PR veterans are generally very welcoming. Just don't be afraid to go in a squad and speak in the mic. Say to the squad that you are new to the game. The SL will lead you and give you advice. Just follow the orders and no one calls you a noob.
2) Just look the server list, and take a server what is located in US or in Europe. The Chinese one and the Russian are worst IMO while there are not so many english speaking players.
3)I dont think joining a clan is a must. I have played PR for over 5 years and have never been in a clan. But if you want, just join. Not really necessary.

Good luck with PR, in my opinion its the BEST FPS game i've ever played. Just needs a little time to get in.

Welcome!
1) I think I can safely say that all veterans and a huge majority of normal players are friendly to new players, for some its even a pleasure to teach new players. But like the rest I'd say read through the manual before you hop in and let the squad that you joined know that you are new.
2) Look through the PRSPY for servers with the best ping for you, all of the servers are generally pretty good quality but the Chinese servers such as =UN=, =PLA=, and =SAGA= have very differently play styles and asset rules than NA or EU or even SA from the short sessions I played at before.
3) That is entirely up to you, although personally I plan to join one sometime soon.

1) You should have no problem with the PR vets if you are polite and tell them you are new.

2) Try them out yourself. Check PRSPY.

3)That is up to you. I have been playing since 0.75(I think?) without ever being in a clan.

Read the manual, and play around with basic kits.
If you want, our clan has a new training project you can join to play a few rounds with us and hopefully learn some stuff.

As everyone already said, PR players are generally welcoming and willing to help. But indeed it is highly recommended reading the PR manual so you can have a grasp of the basics, and then don't be afraid to ask questions while in-game! :)

If you look for american servers, CIA and HOG are the most active and popular ones.

Welcome to our PR community!

Also don't get hung up on BF2 PR being a 'milsim' - It's not, it's an arcade game made to look and play 'realistically' in terms of simulating a battlefield.

It's all the better for it, you can hop in and out of games fairly easily, it feels natural to run around (not clunky, etc).

As previous people have mentioned, get familiar with deviation. It's there to simulate tiredness and adrenaline affecting the soldiers' aim - Frustrating at first but it's the only real option the developers had within the limitation of the BF2 engine, and you'll get used to it.

It takes 3 shots to kill an infantryman, or 1 head shot.

You spawn in the game on player-made spawns called 'FOBs' - these are made by the squads you see and have limitations on where they can be placed. The enemy can destroy them.

Cars and tanks etc spawn only at main. It's bad manners and frowned upon to take them just to get somewhere by yourself (they are limited).

The game is made to encourage people to play in squads - it is possible to lonewolf (avoiding the admins as well as the enemy) but to do so really denies you the fun part of PR.

Join a squad and tell everyone you're new and they'll explain the game better. Have fun!

THIS IS THE CURRENT 'MUMBLE' VOIP PROGRAMME THAT ALMOST EVERYBODY USES:

https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f10-pr ... ality.html

It lets you speak to everyone else in the game so you can hail passing tanks, soldiers, etc.

You'll need to set up the 'Overlay' so you can see other people's names light up when they talk to you (if you want that, we all use it I think though).

You'll also need to bind the Transmit function to a key on your mouse or keyboard. Be careful not to use the existing BF2 VOIP key of everyone hears you twice.
