Sometimes low FPS

Hey :3
First of all I have to say: THE MOD IS AWESOME, great work!
It's really fun and the community... just great. After 3-4 days playing and training with the "NEW" clan and some random guys I know the basics and how to fly/shoot and HIT/do my best for the team and so on.

But here's my problem I noticed yesterday.
I can play many large maps with big cities and many houses on highest graphics and 1920x1080 resultation (60-50 Frames) BUT there are small maps (I am sorry, I don't know the names of the maps, yet) for example this little "US vs Taliban" map in the desert...
I can't get more than 35-25 FPS on this map...

Maybe someone can help me :)

EDIT:
I already did this "How to get more FPS" thing, but it didn't help, because I did all this (like defragmentation) before.

I'd suggest running the game on lower settings.

Also you could try deleting whats inside the cache folder located in

Code: Select all

C:\Users\[username]\Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache

Simple: Some statics on the maps are made of a few other statics, and some statics were not optimized. The map you refer to is Falluhja West. On that map even with a good computer you get framerate drops on few spots. Its a problem with the map. You cant do much about it other than avoid these spots :D
You have to live with that.

Like I said this won't be the problem because I can play on some maps with (almost) best graphics and 1920x1080...
And it doesn't matter if I play on high or low settings. On some places my framerate dropes to <30 -__-

MS Windows 7 Home Premium 32-Bit SP1
Pentium Dual-Core CPU E5200 @ 2.50GHz
4 GB Ram
NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT

I think it's like Elirah said... :/
Thanks!

My 2nd PC, the older one I used to play PR with before, had Win XP, Dual Core E6300, 2 GB RAM and also 9600 GT, I also had fps issues on some places...

Okay... well, I guess there is nothing I (or we) can do.
It's very strange that there is no difference. I have ~60-70 FPS on 800x600 (with low settings) and on 1920x1080 (and everything on high).

But when I am on one of these "special" places on both settings the frames are dropping under 30 FPS.
(I don't know if this is how you say it, but whatever :D )

There really isnt much you can do. The problem is the CPU. PR is very CPU intensive especially in maps with a lot of statics like someone said already. Try downloading GPU-Z and let it run in the background. THen after a minute or so of playing in these "low-fps" areas, check GPU-Z and see wat it is reporting for the GPU usage. Most likely, your graphics card is only being 50-60% utilized meaning the CPU is the bottleneck.

What you can do to try to improve the fps is to update chipset drivers, update sound drivers, overclock CPU (could be dangerous), close any uneeded programs while running PR. For video settings, I found that lowering view distance to 85%-90% was really helpful in terms of FPS but if you do, i wouldnt recommend doing anyhting that requires spotting things at long distances.

I don't think its the CPU. It's the engine and probably the nonability to have more than 2 gigs in the RAM (please prove me wrong, thats just what i noticed). My CPU never was at 100 % playing PR. But its a little bit stupid to load a Object from you harddrive to the RAM, just to flush it away if you look into another direction and load it again if you look into another direction (thats actually a mapping problem too, stated in some other threads from R-DEVS).
So nothing to do about, just be happy it wont crash or its a diashow :D
20 - 30 FPS is acceptable for such a slow game, and its still just in few places of some maps.
Thats it...
Maybe the DEVs got something to work to make it less laggy (optimizing object and texture load, and so on) :)

So your CPU is a mid-range (lower speed, lower cache), 2nd gen Core 2 CPU. I do remember when Intel i7s first came out, people were exclaiming that they were suddenly able to play Fallujah West at decent FPS, suggesting that the improvements/changes in the CPU architecture and the CPU itself was a limiting factor, at least for this particular map.

I believe the 2GB RAM issue was solved during patch 1.41, and officially fixed with patch 1.5, and was solved by setting a flag in the executable to /largeaddressaware. This allows bf2 to use 3GB on 32bit OS and 4GB on 64bit OS.

Some people suggested setting the view distance to 99% to help with low FPS, but I forget if this was for the same exact problem you are having. Still might be worth trying.
