Question about AR vs. MG in upcoming version

I was watching a WIP video (which looks absolutely orgasmic, thanks devs) in which Anders was using an M240 set up on a rooftop firing down at an insurgent. I noticed it fired pretty slowly compared to the M249 so it got me to thinking - what is the main difference going to be between the AR and MG kit? So I far I know that the MG kit is designated for more defensive use because it has to be deployed to fire (IIRC), but does each individual bullet do more damage because it's a bigger caliber? If not, I don't really see how it's not just strictly worse than an AR from a strictly statistical perspective. Hell, for all I know, it might be.
Also three cheers for the developers for working hard to get a quality product out

I hope I don't get in trouble for this reply, but what you pointed out in the video was self evident to most regular PR players, and the DEV team is still sorting/testing the balancing out.

I just wanted to be totally sure considering we don't really have actual non-censored patch notes. Thanks, I think.

The MG kit is going to pack more of a punch but be less mobile, I think it was possible to figure as much from the released information, so I don't think I'm breaking NDA by telling you that.
Realistically, a medium MG usually fires 7.62mm or the local equivalent, while a light MG fires 5.56 or equivalent. Which means one less shot required to kill with the medium MG in PR terms. There's going to be differences depending on faction, but that should be the main difference, assuming the Devs implement it realistically. That, and the fact that medium MGs are heavier, reflected probably by longer deploy times and higher movement deviation.

More accurate, more damage, which also means more damage against vehicles!

Try PR:F in v0.98 if you want a taste of what the MG kit is going to be like since the FN MAG GPMG is in it, as part of the AR kit

We will see weapons squads, wich is more long range fire support and GPMG is better for that role.

While on the topic of MGkits.. How are you planning on limiting the kits?

Wasn't it so that you had to go with eighter LMG or MMG?

I think this information was in the Devcast #2 - one will be able to have both in a single sqaud.

Did anyone ever feel a difference between the 7.62 and the 5.56 rounds? Like between the AK and the m16, I never felt like the AK had more power (except maybe from AK being automatic) and could take down someone faster.

7.62mm machine guns have been a part of PR since the beginning (PKM, MG3). I don't understand what all the fuss is about.

Well yeah, a good example is the SKS, it takes people down in 1-2 shots, while the PPSH which is also 7,62 takes 4-5 bullets to kill someone. Remember, not every bullet has the same speed, same penetration or same shape.

The rounds are quite different. PPSH is 7.62x25mm while the AK/SKS is 7.62x39mm, the PPSH is an SMG.

shoot more people. It's glaringly obvious how much better the ak-47 is up close compared to a 5.45, or 5.56. In fact the biggest advantage of 5.45 and 5.56 is its lightweight, and good ballistics compared to 7.62x39, which isnt really expressed in PR, im pretty sure the AK-47 functions as a much better marksman weapon too. Everyone seems to pick the ak-74 as militia, or insurgents, or whatever, I always liked the ak-47 better.
one thing to note though, is that all but the sniper and pilots on BLUFOR wear body armour effectively increasing health by like 20% or something, and no insurgent faction wears body armour.

both of these weapons stats will be changed significantly, overall the PKM and MG3 have precisely the same accuracy as an M249, except they both have more recoil, and the PKM has shit rate of fire. The MG3 was probably always imbalanced, but the pecheng of 1.0's stats will take a shit on the current PKM's. Or it should at least or the AR kit will just make it pointless.

Get hit by two 5.56 successively and you'll be black and white, with perhaps enough time to get your field dressing out before you bleed out. Take two 7.62 and your flat on the floor. Unless its insurgents, who suffer heavily when hit by 7.62.
If your hurting really bad or go down after a single shot, it was a sniper round or maybe an old school round (like in the enfield).
