Hello Guys I am new in the Pr Forum.I tried to download Project Reality for Bf 2 more then 5-7 times in desura,with patchers nothing worked.Now i ask you for Help.I buyed the game on steam.Thx for Support

Once you have downloaded the four installation files, you can follow this guide.

Can you log in to vanilla BF2?
If BF2 was already working, we'll suggest one course of action. (Could be firewall/antivirus/router/installation error/etc)
IF BF2 was just installed NOW so you can play PR, all the parts have to be installed in proper order.
Please read below and make sure you installed BF2 and PR in this order:

Here is the installation guide in tl;dr format:
Install BF2 in Steam.
Run BF2.
Adjust your audio, video settings now for convenience.
Exit BF2.
Download and install 0.973 full installer.
Start with installer part 1.
Then part 2.
then part 3.
Start the PR shortcut on desktop.
log in.
You should see a black screen with red text telling you that 0.973 is out of date. If you get this screen, then everything installed correctly.
exit PR.
Download and install the PR 0.973 to 0.981 Patch
(If it CTDs, Edit the PR shortcut as described below.)
Start the PR shortcut on desktop.
log in.
join online game.
If you crash at the splash screen, or the screen goes black and then crashes to desktop, try to start PR in windowed mode by following the directions below:
Edit your PR shortcut and ( what AfterDune said ) put this in it

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Battlefield 2\mods\pr\pr.exe" +restart +menu 1 +fullscreen 0 +szx 1280 +szy 720
Dont just copy paste this, but adjust to your install location. Make sure you don't omit quotation marks or it wont work.
If you start in windowed mode and it CTDs, a Message will pop up telling you the problem. Take a screenshot or write this down and post it to this thread.

I downloaded the 3 parts and tried to start but it didnt work what i need to do then

A series of questions to find the source of our problem.
1. Does vanilla BF2 work in Steam?
2. Can you join an online vanilla BF2 server?
3. Did you edit your PR shortcut as stated above?
4. What is the error code when the game crashes?
5. Did you uninstall the Desura version download of PR before installing the torrent download version of PR?
6. Did you start PR as an admin?

Also, please find the file \Steam\steamapps\common\Battlefield 2\mods\pr\PRError.Log , open in Notepad, and scroll to bottom, copy and pate the last several entries.

Install part 1. pr_0973_full_part1of3_setup
Install part 2. pr_0973_full_part2of3_setup
Install part 3. pr_0973_full_part3of3_setup
When prompted, update Punkbuster.
Reboot.
Install 098 patch.
Start PR shortcut on desktop.

You are looking for PRerror.log file ,
you have steam version, default location on Windows x64 is
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Battlefield 2\mods\pr\PRError.log
in Windows 32 bit it is
"C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\Battlefield 2\mods\pr\PRError.log"

Ok i searched for the prerror.exe but it wasnt there i search on my full pc but i couldnt find it?
What i need to do then ?

This can be caused by the Steam auto updater feature, and also possibly from the Steam Overlay feature.
TO Disable In Game Community Overlay:
Start Steam as an admin.
Go to Game Library
Right click the Battlefield2 , Click Properties.
Deselect the Box for Enable Steam Community In-Game
Keep the Properties Window Open.
TO Disable Automatic Updates:
Click the Updates Tab.
In the Automatic Updates window, Select 'Do NOT Automatically Update this game'
Close the Properties Window.
Keep Steam running,
minimize Steam window.
Start PR.exe as an admin.
Tell me if it works.
The other way to do this is to add PR as a non-Steam game to your Steam Library, as such:
Adding a shortcut to a non-Steam game
Launch Steam.
Click the Games menu, choose Add a Non-Steam Game to My Library.
Browse for games on your computer or put a check next to the game(s) you wish to add to the Library.
You need to browse to either:
in Windows 64 bit:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Battlefield 2\mods\pr\PR.exe
in Windows 32 bit:
"C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\Battlefield 2\mods\pr\PR.exe
Click Add Selected Programs
ON your New Steam Library Shortcut for PR:
TO Disable In Game Community Overlay:
Start Steam as an admin.
Go to Game Library
Right click the PR shortcut in Steam Library , Click Properties.
Deselect the Box for Enable Steam Community In-Game
Keep the Properties Window Open.
Start PR shortcut in Steam. let me know if it works.
