Question about PR Server(s) in general.

So I'm thinking of starting up a PR Clan and possibly getting a server up and running for PR. How much of a hassle would it be, and, would I require a dedicated server to host the server on?

I know not just anyone can walk up and get a PR Server that easily, just wondering before I even make a move of starting a PR clan. I've noticed a real decline in the amount of servers, especially US and they're mostly full. Then there are other servers that have low population mostly because they don't play favored maps and gamemodes.

Thanks,
Serf

quotes from theserver license page.:
IMPORTANT: You must have a BF2 dedicated server running on the IP/port in your application. If no server is detected, the application cannot be processed and will be deleted.
OR
you can buy a server at alphanetworks.com

It will basically cost you money, dedication and time. But the reward of having a good server with nice gameplay is a very nice reward. There isn't much room for new servers as the overall player count is low, but it's all up to you. Good luck!

I would suggest you to start a clan with a nice website first.
When you have a nice playerbase (20+p) you can start a server. Before that you'll have a hard time seeding.

Also I would start the server shortly before 1.0.
Right now unknown servers, will have a hard time getting known.

And it would be cool to do cleaning of the servers... I mean those who have 0 players 24/7 just spam the server list and it's a little annoying :p

He could start it now. However, like you said it will be difficult seeding it without some help.
When 1.0 is out though only a handful of players on a server at the right time will get a server fully populated.

Even the biggest PR clan at the moment is too lazy to start its own server. It takes A LOT of work, so I have to agree with Micro.

PR is not lacking Servers - it is lacking Players.

Take a good look at the servers that are now sitting empty before you purchase one. They are empty because there are not very many players playing PR. I wonder sometimes if people forgot they are paying a monthly fee for a server. And even more bizarre are those clans that have 2 or 3 servers sitting empty 24/7

In China, it is lacking servers, especially good servers.

We have 4 servers but only one of them is well managed. A lot of players are usually waiting outside the only good server on weekends night while the other 3 are completely empty.

It is not that difficult to buy a server but it's difficult to manage a server and make a server well-known.

I do also believe, that most players rather wait for a slot on a popular Server, instead of trying to seed another.

We run a dedicated server, so as long as the server can handle it and the licence allows it dosent cost any more to run 1 server or 10.

atm We run 3 PR servers two public one for skrims and training, ArmA 2 server. TS3 server. Once in a while a Minecraft server. Still with lost of resources to start testing a ArmA 3 server. All for the same price. Once a clan gets to a certain size renting a dedicated server box in a data center is cheaper.
