New recruit needs help

Hi,

I've introduced my nephew to PC gaming and, more importantly, PR. His BF2 Complete Collection disc was delivered this morning, so I'm going around to his house tonight to install it all. However, his internet connection is rubbish, so I'm downloading all the necessary files and putting them on a pen drive.

Now it's been a while since I did all this, so can anyone help me in telling me what I need to download in terms of patches for both BF2 and PR?

Also, hopefully it won't have a bearing on it, but his operating system is Windows 8, and I was fearing it won't be compatible with such an old game. Is there any particular steps I need to take with regards the operating system?

Much thanks as always.

The game is fully compatible with Windows 8, except the Mumble overlay.

Patch 1.41 PRTA(GER) EA

Then Patch 1.5
PRTA(GER) EA

But you can find the EA - Chat Support and with a small dedication you can get BF2 in Origin, thus avoiding the trouble of having to download the patches everytime you want to install the game.

For Project Reality just press the "Download" Button up there.

Thanks mate.

Right, I've got some files already on my disc, they're pr_0973_full_part1of3_setup
..............................................................................................2of3
..............................................................................................3of3
...................................................................................pr_0973_MAPPACK_Final_setup
...................................................................................pr_0973_vietnam_beta_setup
...................................................................................pr_0973_to_0981_patch_setup
...................................................................................prbf2_falklands_0180_setup
...................................................................................project_normandy-setup

Could I use these files and save the downloading, or is it easier to just download the whole 'current' latest files?

Don't bother installing vietnam, falklands, normandy and the mappack, they're all part of the current version anyway.

All that you should need is the full 0.97 installer and the 0.97 to 0.98 update, so you should be fine with just those files. The minimods/mappack are included in 0.98 so you don't need to bother with those.

-install bf2
-install bf2 patches(1.41,1.5)
-install PR 0.97 (part 1/2/3)
-install PR 0.981
-install mumble(replacement for voip)
-install soundmod, trust me, it's 50x better sounds;

and readthis thread for some more information about windows 8 compatibility. (which is 99% working :D )

We have managed to get bf2 working, although one server kicked us for a modified PB, which is odd as we were prompted to update PB by servers we joined immediately after install.

So those things to download in the Windows 8 thread you posted, do we only install them if we have problems With PR, or should we install them regardless?

Cheers. Now I'm sorry to be a pain but it doesn't make it clear if we should install those things prior to, or after installing PR.

If its after, do we need to run it first or does it matter not?

yeah im pretty sure you dont need the map pack with .981. other programs u mite want would be.

anders sound mod
fraps- fps counter
teamspeak 3 and/or ventrillo
razer game booster- if he has a low end system.
also a good tip for noobs it to tell him to join squads that have good SLs. they are the most fun. it is all about finding a good sqd. so u can learn from them too
and u mite want to show him prspy. so he can make friends and know when thier on. also so he can add the good SLs to his friends list to see whos on.

Guys, the lad is having Mumble disconnects constantly. We installed that patch you prompted us to for Windows 8, and it worked fine last night, but tonight it's disconnect, connect, repeat.

Also, his VOIP in game isn't working, any ideas?

The issue with mumble could be not your fault. Maybe the [mumble] server is getting attacked or has some other issues. If VOIP is not working for both of you it could be because it's disabled on the server you where on. If it's not working for him he should check if he:

- disabled VOIP
- removed/moved the buttons for VOIP

Both can be checked in the Option (first in sound, second in controls)
