I've always been of opinion that small arms fire does zero damage to helicopters and different kinds of APCs (even to Humvees). But recently some other player challenged me stating the opposite. By his words, plentiful rifle fire CAN destroy an APC etc. Who's right?

I saw one of Bluedrake's videos in which he and his squad blew up an MTLB with a lot of small arms fire. If memory serves, there were no anti-armor measures used.

NATO Rounds (5.56 + 7.62) as far as I know can damage Russian and MEC MTLB's and BRDM's when shooting at its side armor or rear armor. However, you'll need to empty at least 1 1/2 clips from a M249 SAW to get a MTLB to start smoking. I'm not too sure, but I think even the Israeli M113 takes damage from small arms. However, I think all other Medium/Heavy armor are protected from small arms fire.
All Jeeps, Civilian Cars, Boats, and Logistic/Transport Trucks can be damaged by small arms fire, the glass is not bulletproof on Logistic/Transport Trucks, so you can kill the driver by shooting at the window. On the other hand, I think the glass on Humvees are bulletproof for certain calibres (9mm, .45 ACP, and Buckshoot/Slug from a distance), but do not protect from larger calibres like .50 Cal, 7.62x51, and 7.62x39.

It all depends on what you are shooting at.

Simple, but very true. The distance to a target will modify your damage factors and ballistic as well.

Some of APCs are vulnerable to small-arms fire. But not all of them.
Vulnerable to 5.56-7.62-5.8 etc. :
- MTLB
- BRDM
- VN-3(as BRDM/Jeep analogue)
- M113
- all kinds of Jeeps in the game
Not sure about BMP3, but imo it takes some damage too. Further investigation is needed.
Vulnerable to(12.7 (.50)):
- everything on the list above
- BTR60
- Striker with specific angles(possible bug)
- LAV25 with specific angles(possible bug)
- LAV30 with specific angles(possible bug)
- BTR80 with specific angles(possible bug)
And again - not sure about BMP3, but according to reality - the side armor and rear armor should be penetrated by 12.7 easily.

All vehicles you have listed there is built to be able to resist small arms fire. from pistols to m240 and PKM.
I dont know why they take damage but I hope it gets fixed

we've tried to make it so that vehicles with armour rated against various calibres are impervious to those ammo types.
So yes, there are plenty of vehicles that are vulnerable to infantry weapons, but you need a squad's worth of bullets to destroy it quickly at all.
Its always worth an entire squad opening up on a helicopter for example if they have a good shot, you'll either damage teh chopper or injure its crew. Even if you only weaken the chopper, it may give a friendly 50cal enough time to fully destroy it etc.

I've unloaded a couple dozen PKM mags into an M113 before to no affect. All of the others take small arms damage however.

m113 is vulnerable to 50cal not small arms I think?

M113 is pretty thin skinned in RL.

Don't quote me, but i'm sure the said vehicle has to be already damaged in order to damage it with rifle bullets.
I tried to see how many foss's will a brand spanking new Chally take until it started to smoke. Well, i gave up around 45 and it didn't even need repairs, but we all know that its possible to foss a smoking tank, so im just putting 2&2 together.

All vehicles in BF2 has a critical state.... if it reaches that critical state it starts bleeding until it blows up.
It could very well be that you think you made it blow up where it was actually just slowly bleeding itself to death.
I haven't figured out all the damage in PR but as far as I know, incendiaries only work on vehicles that are also vulnerable to small arms fire.
some bullet proof glass seems to do no damage to the vehicle from small arms but if you shoot for example the headlights or thin metal plating it will.
For example some helicopters where you shoot the glass they will receive no damage but if you shoot the engine or other metal plates it will.

Incendiaries are just the glitchiest thing in PR. The vehcile desn't need to be already damaged to take damage, 30mm or 25mm will still hurt a tank that starts at full health, it just won't be noticeable, 2 ARs in good positions can mess up a brdm/vn3 or scare him away pretty quickly.
When it comes to choppers and the disable system its random, sometimes you can shoot at a huey and it will make it back to the carrier burning, other times you can shoot and disable the engine after half a belt. I've even been shot out of the apache pilot seat by a single rifleman, and on his first shot...

I remember fossing a T-90 (that even tried to relocate, so he was moving around a bit) on Vadso (as British) with 4 incendiaries. He didn't seem seriously damaged before (no smoke or anything like that), but he had probably taken some terrain damage before as the driver of the tank was pretty stupid (that's why I took him out so easily - he rushed over a crest into 2 infantry squads - on an open mountain with no cover).

M113 doesn't take damage from small arms, only .50 and above.

This man speaks the truth. At least as far as PR goes, and that's what we're talking about here, so...

find it intresting that a vehicle that should protect crew members and passengers inside is unable to survive small arms..
