After BF3 came out, 1942 was made free to download and play through Origin. I was thinking about what would happen if BF2 were to follow the same fate in the wake of a BF4 release. Will PR still be playable in an Origin BF2 in the event that EA decides to do with BF2 what it did to 1942? I remember being able to install and play the Desert Combat mod on the origin version of 1942. But apparently players in the Origin version were not able to play on servers of games that were not Origin version.

I dont think BF2 will be removed in Short.
After all, there are plenty of Guys still playing it regularly, not to mention mods.

my bf2 is on origin. No problem whatsoever.

They are, with some hotfixed BF2.exe players of both CD and Origin 1942 version can play on servers together...

I was surprised this week to see several full servers in vBF2, including several 100+ player servers.

Yeah, they're in vBF2 and a lot of other mods like FH2.

so the best way to get BF2 made F2P is to get everyone to stop playing it all together.

Some of the larger maps (mainly expansion ones) worked okay-ish with it. I even had a round in which I ended up in a chopper with a bunch of random guys and we actually continued to move from flag to flag with that very chopper and the same bunch of guys through most of the game. That's the most teamwork you'll ever see in vBF2.

It wasn't great, but it was clearly showing that BF2 with larger maps would've been so much better than the Karkand-stuff.

I don't think BF2 will be made F2P for a few reasons:

1. Battlefield Play4Free is the equivalent of a F2P BF2, if BF2 is made free, EA stands to lose a lot of their sales from the Free-to-play genre, simply because players want to be able to play a free full version game instead of a pay-to-win system.
2. BF2 still has a relatively large player base compared to BF1942 and Battlefield Vietnam
3. BF2 is ranked 5th globally for most copies of a game sold for the PC platform and is still generating profit for EA even to this day. Refer here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_be ... ideo_games

It pisses me off. I just want to track their ip down, go to Russia and China, slap the admins with a trout and smash their server.

I join, then there's bots, then I just want to kill. Very badly.

They work 24/7 and have lives, working on this sweat-filled labor of love called Project Reality. What part of work don't you understand, hmm?
