WIN7 in newbuild

I feel I already know the answer but I'll ask anyway.

January I had a fresh complete win7 64 install on my laptop (I have the DVD) because I was moving to an Island Island in the Pacific, and guess what 4 months later the laptop died....

So I will be getting/building a desktop and I really don't want to pay out another load for another win7.

From what I read I can't put it into a second comp even if the first is dead.

When thinking about my new build I may just use a small SSD as I put next to nothing on it, atm just BF2PR and WIN7, no other games. So could I not put my SATA 250GB from the laptop in the new build as primary?

Where I live things cost between 2 and 3 times US prices and if tigerdirect are able to send here I'll have to pay $100 shipping and then about 33percent import taxes ontop hence the tightfistedness. I even got a Subaru radiator sent from the US and after freight and taxes it was $400 where as here it is $1050 for exactly the same thing!

Thanks guys.

You lucky SOB, you're living in New Caledonia!?

Buy my a plane ticket and I'll bring you my gaming PC?

...

Um, win7 licensing is a complicated situation. I'm guessing you have win7 OEM , but I'm not sure.

I'd suggest just giving it a try,
OEM Windows is supposed to be sold with a new PC, or the parts required to build a PC (though many sellers ignore this condition).

It is also only supposed to be installed on a single system - as it binds to the motherboard of the system its installed on.

However, I've successfully installed my copy on 3 different builds now (core 2 duo, phenom II, i7) with no problems. Worst case you just call Microsoft and deal with an auto prompter giving you long key codes to validate it again. Obviously though you can only have it installed on one PC at any given time.

Thanks for the quick replies.

I haven't tried it yet as I'm at the dreaming on Tiger direct stage.

Yes it is an OEM version. I'll check availability and price here then make a decision, as concerns your offer litoralis it'd work out about the same as a base level i5 machine, if you?re interested I live in Poindimie in the north. Why the love for New Caledonia?
