Basically the title. I got banned from the US server because I killed two friendlies by accident.

Why? Because I did not see them on the map, and I did not see blue appear when I aimed at them for a fair while.

I've talked with others, and some of them have the same problem as well.

So I don't know what it is, but I'd really like it to be fixed, so I don't get banned from other servers.

Are automatic team kill bans perm? Or..?

Are you actually banned or were you simply kicked?

Happened to me once too. I saw 2 friendlies on my grid and after a minute i only saw one. I thought the other had been killed but he wasn't. He just didn't show on the map

I was auto-kicked for excessive teamkilling, AFAIK due to the punish reports.

When I tried to join it said I was banned.

Not banned anymore, might have just been a quick lay-off ban.

I tk'd someone because of this when I first installed the game. It is frustrating.

It did it all the time on the 128 server back in the day. It's just something we have to live with. As far as I remember, back then anyway, that's an engine limitation and not something that can just be changed. But then again, they made a 100 player standard server with 8 man squads, I suppose anything can happen.

Some kits have a bug that makes you insivile on the map somehow.

About the name tags, BF2 engine can only display 64 names so that's why some friendlies don't have name tags. On 100 servers you need to be more carefull and learn the camos.

There must be some way to correct this. It is kind of ruining game play to some extent.

I can tell when i have the bug because Ive had friendlies walk right up to me and unload on me because i didn't have a name. Not to mention being tagged in the back by friendlies all the time needing to stop and heal.

And Ive also accidentally walked into a room with 2 or 3 people and open fired on them because of no tags. At long ranges it looks like an enemy with a friendly kit so Ive also been accidentally shooting a lot of my own teammates.

My last game on the new map. The island one i had a squad mate also get kicked after he killed 3 or 4 teammates accidentally when we were in a firefight on the radar relay. When it gets really intense you just open fire on nameless targets so its hard to fight that gut reaction.

i hate this name tag thing... if its not fixable, i think it should be removed for good

Friendly name tags removal should have been done long ago, IMO

I guess it would be more realistic to completely remove them. Forcing people to do uniform checks or mumble checks.

This would also discourage lone wolfers because they would be getting friendly fire a lot.

But at the same time unless your playing insurgency some of the AAS uniforms would need to be changed to be more distinguishable or you will have tons of friendly fire kills in close quarters or you would have really slow close quarter combat with everyone checking each other for a few seconds before opening fire.

yeah remove them completely... if we are going to play like it is pretty bad...

I'm with you, please remove all enemy/ friendly tags, it's annoying as hell!

Yep I'm all for removing all name tags as well. Even though at first team killing will be bad, people will learn to double check after a while. Plus its more realistic anyway.

I know you ain't suppose to ask questions here but i couldn't find camo guide anywhere, at least it wasn't on the manual (or i'm just stupid). It's a tad hard to join as a noob, been killed 5 times in a row while waiting for the nametags to appear/not appear. Would be great to have some pics.. if there is such a thing, couldn't find it with search and you guys can most likely point me to the right direction in seconds.

Nah. Tag removing doesn't sound like a solution. It's good for knowing where your friend is, if you play co-op and to know positions of squad members.

A better solution is a custom name tag system, but it's not so simple. Or maybe it is.

They'll figure it out. It's not really a problem, just have to get use to it and then it'll be all good.

Servers hosting over 64 players will only show 64 names, therefor, 36 people will have no nametags, but its client side so everybody will see it differently.


It goes to show how many noobs came back to play. but last night was awesome when the regulars finally got on.
