Hi,
After seeing some project reality clips on youtube I knew this was something for me.
Already I have battlefield and if I can believe canirunit.com I can run it perfectly.
Installing the beta shouldn?t be the biggest problem with enough instructions on this forum etc.
My question to you guys is:
Is it like the normal bf that you can join a random server, or is it more clanfights something like that?
Because most clips i have seen are really coordinated teamplays, thats what i also want!
If you got some further very useful information i should know I would love to hear it from you!
See you on the battlefield

You join whatever server you can fit in. As for getting a tactical game, it kind of depends on the luck of the draw when you join a squad. Sometimes you'll get a good squad leader who has an idea of what to do. other times your SL won't even talk and everyone just runs off on their own. If you want a pretty much guaranteed tactical game, join some of the events that our clans host once in a while. Tactical Gamer is probably the best for milsim type games with the highest amount of teamwork. Not saying teamwork doesn't happen in other servers, but it's just more frequent in TG events.

There are lots of public servers up and running, and a few are usually full 64/64 players depending on the time of day. Public games are usually fairly coordinated, but it depends on who you're playing with. Some people screw around, but most players are smart and tactical and take things seriously. A few personal tips I can think of are
1. Read the manual. Know it in and out. Prepare yourself as best you can before you actually start playing.
2. ALWAYS ask your squad leader what kit to take. He's in charge. It's sometimes considered rude to just join a random squad and grab your favorite kit without consulting anyone.
3. Don't be afraid to ask questions! This is a very helpful community. No one will harass you for being new so long as you're willing to learn.
Have fun! I'm sure other people have more to add.

Welcome!
The beta may be a bit chaotic due to people trying stuff for the first time, but usually, public gameplay is relatively coordinated. I can also recommend Tactical Gamer (you probably saw videos made on there) when it's running and populated. It's running .98 though - but if you got a fast connection, download that and the beta and you can have both

It will be hard and chaotic... setting everything up. Very advisable to get somebody to hold your hand for the first few steps, but then again, take it as a challenge that pays off.

Although 99% here will disagree with me id say that reading the manual is not necessary.
It's not rocket science to play PR..... it is ofcourse a big advantage for your first hours of play to have looked at the manual or to have played BF2.... but it is not a requirement to start playing.
Although without any experience at all you have to limit yourself if you go strait onto a public game aka "deploy"
first off you should write
!rules
in chat then you can open the "console" by pressing the key left of "1" which should be "?" then you can use "page-up" to scroll back and read everything.
If you don't understand the rules you should ask your squad-leader or other people in the squad. And you ask using mumble..... which is mandatory on pretty much all servers these days... so you need to know how mumble works also.
so rule nr:
1: Follow the rules of the specific server
2: Use mumble (this is normally a rule of every server)
3: Follow your squad-leader and observe or ask other squad-members what to do
4: Stay with basic kits like rifleman in the beginning, and let the squad-leader know that your new if he tells you to pick-up a special kit....... if you tell him in the heat of battle there is a good chance he will get very disappointed that you fail him ...aka angry.
5: Go and learn how to use vehicles and all special kits on a co-op test server
The reason that I don't think that you should chew your way through the manual is that some people simple refuse to read thick manuals.
Secondly the reason why i put .... go on co-op servers to learn special equipment and kits last.... is that players that are getting into PR should be allowed to have a taste of the full experience ....and then go back and learn everything on a risk free environment.
As long as you don't break server rules and get yourself a bad reputation and perhaps banned, I don't see any harm in getting strait in-there and have a look around and get to know other players. I'm sure most players will help you.
I advice you to talk using mumble and ask for advice that way though since using team-chat or even global chat for advice is frowned upon and could even be looked at as spam..... so use your voice or squad-chat for noob-talk

I never read the manual. I just join PR and was awesome from the start. Try to be more like me.

And what's one of the reasons why you suck so much Wicca

.
I was reading manual from time to time, but stopped reading it, while I started founding more bugs in it, than new things, or things I forgot.

The beta really isn't the best place to start PR, I'd try a bit of normal first you might get a better start that way, and no one Wicca is already too many.

Just be social, try playing with the mumble settings so you get used to them. Set your squad VOIP and Local VOIP keys to something more ergonomic than a "H" key and "numpad 0".

Since Numpad 0 was the Squad radio I assigned Numpad Enter to Local. Just seemed to make sense to me. What I'd really like to do though is buy a mouse with an extra button on it and assign that button to be squad radio or local so then I don't have to "take my finger off the trigger" to talk to people.

As server don't use VOIP anymore, you should have free v,b, and h keys for mumble.

Aye, I just swapped the old voip keys with the mumble keys. Now H is old voip (in case I run into a server in which someone still uses it), V and B are for mumble (V local, B squad, in my case). I kept the inter-squad comms on the numpad.

Never found the VOIP buttons to be very good for me to reach, I always use:
- ALT for local (when talking local, I am mostly "stationary", so holding down CTRL with my pinky, ALT with my thumb still gives me enough mobility in case I have to move)
- Mouse Button 3 (a thumb button on the side of the mouse) for squad radio (need to be able to talk while shooting, while running, while doing anything else really! Absolute high priority button for a SL)
- LeftWIN for ALL SL channel (same as ALT, when all SLing, I might be looking on my map, etc. so I need my mouse hand to be clicking stuff!)
- "0" for Commander (makes perfect sense since all the other "special channels" are on the numpad as well)
----------
With this setup I find it very easy to
a) reach the buttons in the best possible manor in relation to my ingame needs and
b) be aware of in which channel I am talking and what I am doing at all time.

So that mumble is like different voice options:
1: squad only
2: local (around yourself for 50 meters or so?)
3: whole team?
is that right?

Yes, the manual is due for an update. Wasn't done for the beta.
mries:
1. squad only (primary communication channel)
2. local (only your team in a short radius around you; good if you only want to talk to the medic or pilot next to you, no matter which squad)
3. to all other squad leaders (if you're a squad leader)
4. to the commander (if you're a squad leader)
5. To each individual other squad leader (lots of keys, numpad by default. If you're a squad leader)
