1.0 beta torrent only?

I don't use torrents and I'm curious as to why the beta release was a torrent only download? Also is 1.0 planned to be a torrent only release?

The last few releases has been torrent only. It's most likley that the final release will also be torrent only. It's mainly due the reason of bandwith and being able to provide a fast DL for everyone (believe me - when there would only be dedicated FTP server to download from, it would have been way slower.)
Also torrent offers a lot of nice feature, for example file integrity checks, being able to pause the download etc.

If you have a problem with Torrent release ask if you need help to accquire PR the community can be very helpful.

Torrents are the main method of download for PR now and in the future due to efficiency in cost and speed for most players.
If you have problems using a torrent, you can check this thread for some (inofficial!) download mirrors:

Please keep in mind that only the torrent is officially supported and confirmed to be safe.
Torrents are easy to use and pose no greater risk to your computer than any other source of download.
