PR 1.0 Beta Low FPS Issue

Posted: 2013-07-02 08:07
by CookiesForDays
Before 1.0 beta was released I was able to play 0.98 with good fps (about 40-50).
But in 1.0, there was some serious fps drops (10-30) mostly when I'm around at crowded areas in every map I've played. I set it to lowest graphic as possible, but it didn't made any difference. I don't know if this is because of my low pc specs. Any kind of help would be appreciated.

Your settings dont look so low?

Terrain Quality: High
Effects Quality: High
Geometry Quality: High
Texture Quality: High
Lighting Quality: High
Dynamic Shadows: High
Dynamic Lights: High
Texture Filtering: High

Your gfx card is not great but your i5 is pretty good. maybe look at free disk space too, you got about 10% free space and a 5GB swap file. See if cleaning up can help...reduce some settings and get a new gfx card :)

i could get 60-90 fps on .98 on all medium but with 1.0 i get less than 30 on all low. I also have an i5 @2.30GHz with a Radeon 5650

CPU is not that good, might get low FPS if u dont turn something into low or mid like Geometry.

PR has extremely big map and lots of stuffs on one single map.
When in jungle fight, u would probably get low FPS with poor computer.

I recommend u reduce or geometry and terrain to mid and see if it's working.

I've managed to make some space and I got about 18.9GB/116GB now, but I don't know how to manage the swap files, since I'm not really an expert at computers. I did lowered my settings lowest before I changed my settings to high, but had a exact same 10-30 fps and I decided to changed it since it really didn't made much difference. :P I can't change my graphics card since I have a laptop, I don't even know if there's a place that can upgrade my specs. But thanks for the help.

Intel's integrated graphic solutions (HD3000) is not exactly known for it's performance.

That sounds really expensive, but where can you get one of those? :P

Some K53SJ models come with no discrete GPU,
some come with:
Graphic
NVIDIA? GeForce? GT 520M with 512MB/1GB DDR3 VRAM

Which do you have?

If you have a discrete GPU, Make sure you force your PC to use the discrete GPU in the NVidia Settings menu FOR ALL THREE:
PRLauncher.exe
PRBF2.exe
PRMumble.exe

Snap. (almost, i5-460 2.53 + 5650)

I'd love to hear the team's take on this, I have the same issue with the same spec. I've turned everything from mid to low, no change, then turned resolution down from 1920 to 1270x720 and still didn't see any change whatsoever in terms of fps.

I found that last one pretty strange altogether, lowering resolution usually causes a drastic effect in framerate changes and I'm pretty sure when I used to do it in .98 it'd bump fps to 90 or so, it changes the framerate by precisely nothing at all in 1.0

I can't speak for the wonders of how engines display things, but knowing that changing these settings didn't actually seem to change performance AT ALL might lead someone to finding a problem that's being caused?

EDIT: Further testing. Switched resolution back to 1920, everything to either High or Medium, the ones without medium settings went to High.

Oddly enough I am definitely 100% getting a better framerate with these settings than with running everything at low. Why might that occur?

Additionally, as a result of doing multiple settings tests I notice that the loading times are acting oddly. in .98 optimising shaders loading times were definitely much longer than regular loading times, however in 1.0 they both appear to be around the same amount of time, not at all sure if that's relevant to the fps issue but is an interesting observation at least. Previously loading times between the two were substantially different. Either way I'm definitely getting a better framerate with the higher resolution and settings than with all lows and the lower resolution. Perhaps it is one particular setting causing the problem, likely not resolution as that didn't cause any framerate change when turned down.

I too have been having issues with lag and have spent the last 2 days rejoining servers with lots of different settings. For some reason the highest settings dont necessarily give the worst performance.. Also some combinations make it lag alot. No idea

i got the same issue, fps is around 20-30 in 1.0
i had 60+ fps in 0.98 and 1.0 BETA but now its pretty low :(

Make sure you force all of these:
PRLauncher.exe ,
PRBF2.exe
and especially PRMumble.exe
to use your discrete GPU, in either CCC panel or Nvidia panel, depending on your discrete GPU.

At least in my case, PRMumble won't run on the discrete GPU. At least, it's not listed as running on the NVIDIA GPU Activity Monitor

(the other icon is for PRBF2)

Kothra, we're aware of the issue from the Beta.
THe best we can do right now is have you force the PRMumble to run on the discrete GPU, you can use any of the NVidia settings custom programs NvidiaInspector, or within Nvidia COntrol Panel.

I don't have a notebook to go through the steps, but I think it's something like:
within Nvidia Control Panel.
3D Settings->Manage 3D Settings
SCroll Down to BattleField2 BF2.exe , Click the ADD button
PRBF2.exe and PRLauncher should be in recent programs, add both
PRMumble you will need to click the BRowse... button, and find it in bf2\mods\pr\bin\PRmumble\PRmumble.exe location. Add that also.
Then set all three to force discrete GPU .

I've been trying that, but it's just not working. When I say that PRMumble won't run on the Nvidia GPU, it's after setting it to run with it.

I'll still keep trying things for now though.

Maybe try downloading Nvidia inspector NVIDIA Inspector Download version 1.9.7.2, and manually installing PRMumble.exe PRBF2.exe and PRLauncher.exe to the filter preset for BF2.

The guys here are using a preset other than BF2.exe, but I've forgot which filter...
You can take some instruction on this from the ENB filter thread:

IF you have a notebook with NVidia Optimus graphics, please try this solution:

Everyone that have a Nvidia graphic card try using nvidia's BF2 profile settings with PR1.0 ! it should help with performance issue !
Download attached file and unzip it ! also download Nvidia Inspector from HERE and run it ! and then ;
1_ open profile setting manager
2_ select Import profile and import attached profile by it
Done !

Hi !
Add this profiles with nvidia inspector and report back the result !
Just remember to run NI as administrator !
