PRLauncher high cpu usage causing major lag !

Posted: 2013-07-03 17:16

Hey guys !
I was playing Fools road today and my game was lagging really bad ! I changed all settings to low but that lag still was there ! So I decided to keep Resource Monitor running while I was playing this time and when the game started to lag ,I Alt-tabed out and checked the resource monitor ! I just found out that PRLauncher.exe high CPU usage was the cause of lagging ! It was using around 30-40 percent of my CPU power ! I have a Core2Duo T5800 CPU and I know that it's not so good but still this amount of cpu usage for a launcher is not logical at all ! the game itself uses around 90-95 percent in worse maps and I didn't have any problems in 0.98 !
So DEVs do you think it can be fixed ? and why that launcher is still running at all after the game has been launched ??!

cheers
SAM

Can you post up your system info. If you select the Support option, it brings a prompt of your system info. Just copy to clip board and paste it here.

Also having major FPS issues on all maps, especially Ramiel and Fools Road.
I can run 0.98 on full, all high, without any issues. Now I've turned all the settings down to low, AA on x2 and having 15-20 FPS.

I also have massive fps drop in cities.

Around middle of nowhere is fine with about 60fps(usually in .98 I get even higher); drop below 15fps constantly in cities/lots of woods.

Can someone double check to see if the PR Launcher is taking up memory. We released a patch today.

Update 1.0.23.0
- Some tweaks to lessen CPU usage of PRLauncher.exe to help assist FPS.

Bingo. PRLauncher using 20% of your CPU doesn't seem right at all. I don't know which CPU you've got, but I assume you've got nothing less than a dual core CPU with around 2.80 GHz, right?

PRlauncher cpu usage has been reduced to around 20 percent after recent patch , but I think that is still too much !
This problem is somehow related to PRmumble for sure !

Before joining a server :

After Joining a server and autostart of PRmumble :

_ Just compare PRBF2 and PRlauncher average cpu usage in second picture ! :?

I found a way to reduce PRlauncher cpu usage to around 2-3 percent ! it helps alot with the random fps drops ingame ! :)
Just download the attached file and extract it somewhere in your system . You should Run BES.exe from the extracted folder before running PRlauncher each time you want to play ! I configured that program to auto detect PRlauncher and limit its cpu usage ! If it's not working for you , you need to manually activate it yourself ! ( How To Use )
P.S: I feel the PRmumble works better with this method too !

For me, with an i7-3930k, it uses 3-4% CPU while ingame. I just did some further optimization which lowers it to 0.1-0.2% CPU while ingame for me, so hopefully that 400% CPU decrease happens as well for those with slow *** dual core CPU's :) . But yeah, it is pretty difficult to gauge performance when I don't have such issues.

The reason for the CPU usage in the first place is all the memory hacking that PRLauncher is using. PRMumble, the talking list, the compass marker/range system, BUIS, etc, they don't all happen by magic ;)

It'll be in the next update, please report how it goes when that happens :)

Thank you AncientMan ! that was a really good news !!
I still have another question regarding the cpu usage of 1.0 ! I'm pretty sure that BF2.exe was using more than 90% of my cpu power in 0.98 , but PRBF2.exe uses 50-60 % max in 1.0.24 ! that doesn't seems right to me !
Is that a part of 1.0 optimization or something else causing that ??! :?
