Connection Lost Midway Through Rounds

Evening,
I have been having continuous issues with "losing connection" to servers midway through rounds or sometimes within a minute of joining. (This is NOT the connection lost on first join problem.)

I've tried many solutions including:
1. TeRRoR posted some commands to put in the command prompt. No luck.
2. One of the stickies in this forum by an [R-CON] has a pb folder. Stopped it from "losing connection" within 1 minute. (Also solved connection lost on first join.) I was able to play for a round and a half before it happened again.
3. DMZ'ing my PC.
4. Resetting router / modem.
5. Reinstalling / testing PB with pbsvc.exe and pbsetup.

I'm pretty much out of ideas.

Specifications:
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
Intel Core i5-2500K @ 4.1 Ghz
AMD Radeon HD5850
8GB G.SKILL DDR3-1600
Asus P8Z68-V PRO
Creative Fata1ity X-Fi
Disc copy of BF2

Has this been an ongoing problem for you, or has it recently cropped up?

I'd say recently although I haven't been playing PR again but for about 2 weeks...

And has anything changed which may have introduced this issue... such as:

- Changing ISP
- New programs (specifically network related, like firewalls)
- New hardware
- New Router

?

We did replace the router about a week ago but I don't know if that started the problem. I've only been playing PR very recently again. I don't know if it would've happened before replacing the router.

I'd be very interested how that would affect this issue though when it appears to be Punkbuster issue and I can still play other PB games just fine.

Some routers treat BF2's VOIP traffic as a UDP attack, and thus when it receives a certain combination, will cut the connection off and therefore disconnect you from the server.

I suggest removing the entire router firewall function at first, if that fixes it, then you can go about figuring out what the relevant setting you should change to fix it.

had the same problem.

Uninstalled PR 1.0, PR .981, punkbuster. Had some Windows Updates, installed/restarted. Reinstalled .981, joined a server, idled for about 10 minutes, seems to work soo far. although when I quit the game I had a chime/beep come in which usually means something didn't go right on closing, will update later on in the day.

I have the same problem and I think the problem lies with my ISP, Comcast. 2 months I switched from Comcast to Verizon and had no problems, but just a few days ago I went back to Comcast and now I keep getting disconnected just like when I had Comcast before.

I have a local ISP and there is no chance of being able to switch. They have a monopoly on the area. :/

I'm gonna try bypassing the router the next time I play PR.

I will update.

It appears that bypassing my router did solve the problem.

Interesting, I will do further testing to confirm.

Interesting, didn't work for me. Going to replace the modem tomorrow and see if that fixes it.

Fighter,

regarding your WD My Net N750 :

TIP: Disable the Fasttrack QOS **** , it will wreck the ingame BF2 VOIP packets (my berst guess as to the real cause of the disconnects) , as well as break skype/voip apps.

Specific to your router,
FasTrack QoS is WD's term for the automatic quality of service feature found on the My Net series of routers. It's meant to dynamically configure the bandwidth based on whatever software you're running, giving priority to games and media over web browsing and email. However, even with the newer firmware releases, we've found it to be lacking at best, often causing major performance drops. Accordingly, it's wise to keep this disabled until WD can iron out some of the kinks.

skooterkid23,

list your PC hardware, as well as your router modem and if using WIFi or wired, and any other relevant info, let's see if we can help.

Intel Core i5 650 @ 3.20GHz
8.00GB Dual-Channel DDR3 RAM
ASUSTeK Computer INC. CG5275 (LGA1156) Motherboard
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660
Linksys WRT54GL Router
Arris TM802 Modem
It is also a wired connection, tired it on wireless as well.

I can say it is probably not the router, I had a netgear N600 which I replaced yesterday thinking that was the problem, and it is still happening with the new router. I have updated all my drivers for motherboard, LAN, and CPU. Disabled the firewall on the router and computer, put the computer in DMZ, updated PB, ran them all in admin mode for both PB A and PB B, and nothing has worked. I have no idea why it would be starting all of a sudden, I was playing PR fine for 2 years now on this computer.

EDIT: It happened right after I installed my new video card. I had a 9800 GTX+ before, but when the problem happened I switched back to the old one and still nothing.

Oh god, that fecking Arris. Are you an Optimum customer?

It probably isn't your modem causing this issue, however, if you ever have a dispute that requires you to drive to your ISP, go pick up the Motorola SURFboard modem available upon request.

You can try the Leatrix latency fix 3, Leatrix Latency Fix - Leatrix.com
it sends pings to a few servers constantly to help with latency problems.

---------------------

Honestly, not sure where your problem lies, nothing seems obvious.
you could try a ping test, Ping Test, Speed and Latency Test - ping-test.net , Pingtest.net - The Global Broadband Quality Test see if you have a large amount of jitter.

I also have an Arris modem. I used to have a Motorola Surfboard but my ISP's model of them wasn't DOCSIS3 compatible. The one they had that was DOCSIS3 was the Arris model.

Checked the QoS settings and that was already turned off. I've been playing without the router and still haven't experienced any problems. I'm going to attempt playing with the router again and see if it still happens.

Will update.
