How to speed up BitTorrent by 400% - YouTube

This helped me, went from 2kB/s to 600kB/s.

Just want to help out.
If this in the wrong section feel free to move it. Didn't really know where to put it.

Any idea why it takes minutes till it finally understands our internet connection is much faster? -.- :p

It's just the way that bittorrent works.

When you first start a torrent, you spend the beginning asking around for open download spots. Many of the people you ask will have all their upload slots in use and will refuse you. Those that you do connect to will only provide just a portion of their total upload speed (which is typically already quite slow) since they are uploading to other people at the same time. But over time, you will build up the number of connections you have to people with free slots and your download speed will gradually build.

The wikipedia article covers the topic in much greater detail. Despite the piratey reputation that bittorrent has, it is pretty much the most efficient way for a small developer to quickly share a huge file to a large number of people.

I was downloading around 500kb/s to 2mb/s all the time and I had a steady seed of 2mb/s :-)

I was seeding at 24 MB/s for the first hour, uploaded around 100GB in that time. Down to 4MB/s now, 556GB uploaded.

Wow, that is some serious speed. I'd seed like that if I had the connection, lol.

it doesnt, i'd guess that it just takes a few minutes for it to connect to all the seeders.

on that note, when you're done downloading folks, please leave the file to seed. if you appreciate good download speeds, you should understand why it'd be nice to provide that same speed to others as well. this will help out other players especially on launch day when the last minute downloaders come in.

Be careful. Many ISPs have a data cap, after which they will start giving you warnings and even interrupt your service. No clue what it's like in Ireland, but in the US, 250GB/month is common.

I am not aware of any European country having data cap as any sort of common thing, at this day and age it seems to be more a US thing. Some universities offer internet to students and might have data cap, mine for example is 16GB per day, but I can go around it by using proxy which is offered by the university.

My torrent is showing 16 sources for v1 but hundreds for .981 sounds unlikely.

I always leave torrents to at least 1 share ratio, things like this I'll probably leave my computer on all night, sometimes I wonder why as so many just disconnect straight after, data caps wouldn't be an issue when uploading surely?

Same kind of people that play PR regularly but never donate a penny or cent, Spends thousands on computer play regularly but don't donate $1 eh priceline?

I can only upload at 100kbs but if ten or a hundred do the same....
