Not having to hold the crouch button?

Is it possible to mod the controls so that when you press ctrl once the player crouches until they press ctrl or space again (or whatever button you prefer)? i guess it's kinda annoying having to hold the crouch button all the time.

I haven't tried this yet, but take a look at this solution:

IMO this should be added officially to PR in an update, would save my finger much strain and pain.

Hold down the button you want. Open xfire. Close xfire. Button is held in place.

Its not a bad suggestion ... But Personally .... I dont mind / I Enjoy the ability to couch and un couch when I choose. Unlike Arma and other games where you press your Couch button and the guy lowers until you hit it again and he stands back up I found it a bit more clunky (like most arma movements) ........ THOUGH .... When you think about it This could be a better solution for in game Because Think about this for a second. If you are standing then go to a crouching position you are exerting energy plus it is not instantaneous. It takes a second or so to move up and down. Unlike BF2 crouching where you can hop up and down at a stupid rate. It would indeed be more realistic. The devs would have to come up with their explanation on why it should be implemented to prevent people from getting upset :3 Plus the coding and animations to go from Crouched position back to standing, prone or Running.

Putting in a delay for changing positions and/or toggling crouch is hardcoded, in other words, impossible without modifying the Refractor 2 engine. This is why we have a large deviation penalty after going prone to prevent prone-spamming or "Dolphin-diving".

I had made my own crouch toggle script a long time ago as well. Updated it for the new PRBF2 executable. Whereas the other one linked only toggles you if you double-tap control, mine just makes left control toggle crouch (eg. just tap LCtrl and you'll crouch, no double tapping). It's really meant for the default controls so if you want to customize your controls you'll want to get the AHK version and edit it manually.
AHK version (requires installing AutoHotkey):
Crouch Toggle.ahk
EXE version (doesn't require anything else):
Crouch Toggle.exe

I have an articular problem on my hands, and it really kills me having to hold down the crouch button. Sometimes I just go prone or stand even if it is going to expose me because I simply can't endure 5 minutes of pressing down the same freaking button.

If it ever will be implemented, I'd like it to be added as a different key and not replacing crouch. Popping up and down from cover will be a pain with a toggle key.

DEVs could implement this into the launcher somehow, and add it under options to set it off or on and to change the key... or the key could be extracted from the controls file.

If that is possible, please DEVs, that would be great, that comment made my afternoon, sir, thank you!

Actually i think that is possible. The PR launcher could launch the ahk script or executable i think. Then they could also launch my flir toggle script maybe.

I set my alternate crouch button to Left ALT, using my thumb to stay crouched is a lot less fatiguing than reaching all the way down to CTRL with my pinkie. If I want to us my left thumb for one of the lower-row keys I can temporarily press CTRL to stay crouched while I lift my thumb.
Before trying this I tried simply swapping CTRL and SPACE to Jump and Crouch respectively, but I just started jumping on accident all the time burning up all my stamina. Now if I accidentally press CTRL when I want to crouch, well I just crouch.

Giving this thread a bump. I'd really like to see an option in Project Realty to allow crouch to be toggled.

ARMA is very useful for the toggle crouch. Especially in DayZ. lol
But, honestly, there are very few times I really "CROUCHED" in PR for a long period of time. In combat, I just hit the deck behind cover.
But, you would think EA would have implanted a toggle crouch button.... lol.
