Deployment -> Update List ommits servers

Whenever I update the List of available servers I get about ~10 as result, but it's always a different set of ~10 servers, so I know I am not seeing the full list. Does anyone else have a similiar issue?

Not using the steam BF2 version.

It will only show servers running the same PR version as you. We just pushed out v1.0.33.0 2 hours ago, make sure you're up to date :) .

Alright, that is good to know, but I am pretty sure that is not my issue in this case.

I am in PR2 right now and upon refreshing of the list I saw a handful of servers, mostly empty, and the PRTA server. Then I refreshed a few more times and I no longer see PRTA in the list, but 3ebra.ru and NWA Uk, which were previously missing.

After refreshing again, PRTA is back, along with Tactical Gamer, but NWA UK is missing, along with 3ebra.ru.

Edit: Hm, maybe it is an router issue, that it blocks all server responses after the first ~10. I will try test that.
Edit2: Even if I set my PC as an exposed Host, no ports blocked, the issue still persists.
Edit3 (yay): BF2 Updates the server list normally when started without PR. I have no reason to assume that PR uses different ports for Master-Server-List requests or server-pings than vanilla BF2 - that means the router can't be the cause of this problem

I can confirm that issue as well. I only see ~10 servers, everytime I click "Update list" again, it will show me different servers, a mate can see more than 30 servers. Strange thing is that when I search for a map or a servername, even partial, it will show me that server but in the overview I can't get more than 10 results!

Checked the forum and adjusted my ports on the router as well as the firewall, but still no luck. Game works fine and all, only the server list has an issue.

OS: Win7, 64-bit

Any ideas, suggestions?

EDIT: I am NOT on Steam version as well...

go to Documents\ProjectReality\Profiles\0001 or whichever profile number you use. 0002 0003 etc
open general.con in notepad.
make sure this line
GeneralSettings.setServerFilter ""
looks like the above, and not like
GeneralSettings.setServerFilter " " or anything else weird like that.

Thanks for the quick reply, but it didn't help. In all profiles the settings was already as you said, but I copy & pasted it anyway again, even typed it in manually after no success, but nothing helped. Tried it with any of my profiles. My main profile looks like this (I deleted the favorite and history servers as well):

Code: Select all

GeneralSettings.setSortOrder 0
GeneralSettings.setSortKey ""
GeneralSettings.setNumRoundsPlayed 0
GeneralSettings.setServerFilter ""
GeneralSettings.setHUDTransparency 204
GeneralSettings.setCrosshairColor 50 50 50 255
GeneralSettings.setBuddytagColor 0 0 0
GeneralSettings.setSquadtagColor 0 255 0
GeneralSettings.setMinimapRotate 0
GeneralSettings.setMinimapTransparency 204
GeneralSettings.setViewIntroMovie 1
GeneralSettings.setOutOfVoting 0
GeneralSettings.setBFTVSaveDirectory ""
GeneralSettings.setConfirmQuit 0
GeneralSettings.setMapIconAlphaTransparency 255
GeneralSettings.setUseAdvancedServerBrowser 0
GeneralSettings.setUseBots 0
GeneralSettings.setMaxBots 48
GeneralSettings.setMaxBotsIncludeHumans 0
GeneralSettings.setBotSkill 0.9
GeneralSettings.setLastAwardsCheckDate 1375897959
GeneralSettings.setAllowPunkBuster 1
GeneralSettings.setItemSelectionReverseItems 1
GeneralSettings.setToggleFilters 61440
GeneralSettings.setAutoReload 0
GeneralSettings.setAutoReady 0
GeneralSettings.setConnectionType 5
GeneralSettings.setLCDDisplayModes 0
Clicked several times on "Update list", but still always showing different servers, but a max of 9

I can also confirm that a wrongly set parameter [GeneralSettings.setServerFilter ""] isn't the cause for this issue.

Also using Win-7 64bit

To make the issue more puzzling, the game populates the list with 15 servers as of this evening, not only 10 anymore. Still too few though.

18 for me this evening, but not more...!
Dunstwolke, I guess you're german, my ISP is Unitymedia, yours? Maybe ISP side issue? ;)

Ya, KabelBW/UnityMedia. Using a Fritz!box 6340.

Do you guys have phone service over internet through the FritzBox? Is it an available option from your ISP UnityMedia?

A quick google search shows the fritzbox does some serious packet prioritization for incoming and outgoing packets. Even more so if the router is set up for SIP type VOIP.

Maybe some help here for FritzBox router owners:

Yeah, that was one of my thoughts as well as I got internet, phone (VoIP) and TV via cable from the said ISP, it's a "3 play" package. Inet speed is DL 100Mbit/s and UL 5Mbit/s, I got nothing to complain about regarding speed, Ping or anything else, my landline phone is not really in use and I checked the settings of the FritzBox 6360 as well.
Am at work right now, will check your link later and will see if I can play with some settings of the Box to tell it that I want PR packets first! :)

Thanks for the thought/advice.

Hey Javi, sorry for the derail of that thread but I'm glad to see you back in PR.
One of the first squadleader in PR I played with and I always tried to join your squads :p , dunno if you remember me though.
Is there someone else from the MoL crew out there?

Btw, I know this isn't really a solution to that problem, but you can also join servers using PRSpy. But yeah, might not work that good if the server is full.

@all,
sorry for the following short OT ;)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hey Bloody,

of course I remember you. Yeah, me and my mates played PR since 2006 or 2007, but due to real life, work, studies, etc. and BF3 ( :( ) we lost sight of many MoL. But since I got the eMail about 1.0 I thought of rejoining as PR is still the best Teamplay shooter game in my eyes and I remembered the fun of setting up the server or being involved when AfterDune did his server script / framework which you then took over.
As I am still in contact with few MoL, I told them that I gonna play PR and guess what, we were 4 guys then who installed it and played and yesterday, we even found another "lost" MoL on a PR server playing, still under the MoL-Tag, he got the TS3 IP and 5 MoL were back together on the battleground. :)
And we all are sure that even if there are modern games out there with better graphics, effects, etc. there is nothing like PR! Hooah...

Tonight after work I am going to install a BF2 server, so I can re-apply for a server lic as I lost the old one of course!

See you on the field mate!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ok, back to topic:
I find the servers when I type in the (partial) name and I can join via IP, but its not funny if your mates report 50 servers in their list and you see only 18 ;)
Maybe as workaround I can search for servers via PRSpy, but as an IT guy I wanna get rid of that issue and I accepted the challenge already :D
I hope, the hint regarding the packet prioritization will bring the solution....

I will give it a look, too, though I am not sure how many options there are to actually configure it.

I am only using the Fritz!box for internet, though it is possible to recieve both TV and Phone through it as well - just no devices connected to it for that currently.

Does the server list update for PR work differently than for BF2? As in does PR use different Ports or such?

Check THIS post, there are ports you could use/check. I have not included all of them, but I will give it a try as well.

I read that post after starting this thread. The problem is that setting your PC up at vulnerable host (all ports open) in the Fritz!Box doesn't change anything. Also the post doesn't say anything about -differences- between normal BF2 ports and PR ports.

Why the differences matter? Because BF2 updates the server list just fine without PR2, well over a hundred servers before I stopped it (just wanted to see if it goes beyond 10 :P ).

I had that same problem each time I presses update only a few servers would come up late in the evening more, nearly all appeared.

Went away when I changed ISP and got a new modem/router.

Without any changes from my end, the last 2 days I found around 20 servers everytime updating server list. So far I still haven't figured out what causes the issue.

EDIT: I had a look on my FritzBox though but couldn't find any settings to change the QoS / packet prio.
