Signalex Stereo Headset With Microphone
This?
Honestly, this thread IMO is sort of pointless.

If I were you, I would've posted this in offtopic.

I wonder what the ratio is between those using dedicated headsets and those with mics they've attached to their regular headphones.

Like one of these?

AntLion Audio ? Welcome

Edit: For the price, i'd say that these are probably the best pair of headphones you can get for the price. I had a pair of these that lasted for 2 years and they still actually work. The sound quality is pretty good as well

I highly recommend this brand.
Plantronics Gamecom

Honestly, the best headsets' I have used. I have multiple (I review stuff for a website)

I tried almost everyone of them, and they have crystal clear audio.... even for cheapest.

I recommend this, the Microsoft Livechat LX-3000.

It retails between ?15 and ?20.

The mic quality is superb, the cupped headphones are comfortable and the sound is great.

One pair lasted 6 years and only needed to be changed because I ran over it with my chair. Got another pair 2 years ago, and they're still like brand new.

That looks to be the way to do it, yeah, but personally i just attached one of those Zalman mics to my AKG K272's with a piece of wire clothes hanger, with positive feedback from players. i preferred this way so that i could enjoy my regular music headphones both ways.

Yup. Going through headsets over eight years I can easily say that plantronics gamecom 780 is the best I've used so far. Very durable and surround sound is amazing. Only setback is that it's expensive so you might try to find it at a reduced price online. Got mine for 50 from amazon.com during a sale.

I bought a Steelseries Siberia for $210 bucks and at age 22 it remains the most expensive thing I have ever bought in my life. It lasted 3 weeks before the mic stopped working. Meanwhile, my backup $19.99 cereal box Logitech from Walmart has been going 4 years strong with no complaints.

(For the record, I am 99% sure the Steelseries problem is on my end, not their's, and the Merc Stealth keyboard and Kana mouse I have from them are still working beautifully a couple years later. The point is if you're a new player you don't need to empty your wallet, and the way I look at is BF2 cost me $5 and my mic cost me $20. Between Forgotten Hope and Project Reality I have gotten that investment of 25 clams returned to me a thousand times).

Pretty much all the headsets from "gaming" companies are overpriced ****. The 2 best "gaming" headsets (Sennheiser PC360 and Beyerdynamic MMX 300) are from headphone companies, not gaming ones. You can check out this review/ guide, where a 20USD headphone (Koss KSC75) gets better rating (7/10) than almost every headset tested.

Koss KSC75 20USD 7/10
Steelseries Siberia V1 50USD 5/10
Turtle Beache Z2 50USD 3/10
Skullcandy Slyr 80USD 7/10
Turtle Beache PX21 80USD 5/10
Tritton AX720 130USD 7/10
Astro A40 200USD 7.5/10
Astro A50 300USD 6.5/10
Sennheiser PC360 200USD 9.5/10

If you really insist on headsets and can't afford a good one then go for Platronics, as some of their products are actually decent. Otherwise, just buy headphones and a mic.

If you want good sound quality, buying a decent pair of headphones and something like modmic is always the better choice, I totally agree.

This is the PR BF2 General Discussion. I meet a couple of people without microphones in game. I'd say this is RIGHT on topic.
