Immense loading times

Posted: 2013-08-11 09:07
by mazzbotzki
Whenever I join a server the map loading seems to take upwards of about 15 minutes. Not really sure what I can do to help make it shorter.

Appreciate any help.

Obviously you have a pretty decent setup,

Can you start vanilla BF2, login and join some multiplayer servers all on different maps, let us know if you also suffer very long load times?

Let's take a guess and say you either/and

1. have highly fragmented files in the directory C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Battlefield 2 Complete Collection and the \mods\pr subdirectories.

2. Have a highly fragmented Pagefile.

---------------------

Defrag your hard drive.
The default windows defrag utility is ok, but not great.
You can buy some defrag utilities , some are great , some are ok.
You can download this FREE defrag program called MyDefrag from MyDefrag v4.3.1
and then download this custom defrag script and edit it as you need
(i.e. add your battlefield 2 complete collection directory to the front of your hard drive in the derfagging script)
[Script] Games Optimization Script for Data Disk

5. Check your Page File, if set to a sliding value, I suggest
deleting pagefile.
rebooting.
resetting pagefile manually to a single minimum/maximum.
Here is the raw information to determine your correct pagefile: How to determine the appropriate page file size for 64-bit versions of Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2
And here is a video tutorial to figure out your correct pagefile size:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zAhn-WaW66M

then optionally:
manually setting it to a single minimum/maximum, and getting a defrag progam that will move the pagefile to the beginning of your hard drive. A free option:FAQ Special files - How do I defragment "C:\pagefile.sys" (the swapfile)?

I have this issue again after doing a complete reinstall which I reported in this thread.

I spend very little time on my PC except on the weekends. Last time I played PR was last weekend. It took 17 minutes to reach 1% loading into a server. I don't think so...

My drives are defrag frequently and optimized daily. Reinstalling every weekend is not something I am willing to do.

Yes shaders file empty. Nothing fancy in my setup. Just huge load time. Then crash. I'm not very motivated to spend 2 hours on maintenance just to play for 1. Thanks..

Today I loaded PR and it worked. I don't know what is different other than I poured a glass of scotch and felt very positive before I opened the game.. that and had a bit of longing for some shameful fun. Sorry for the lamenting in this thread. I think I may have a HD issue. It's the one bottleneck I have and it's time to upgrade.

Is it possible that it could be a driver for the Nvidia Cards?

Could be. worked middle of the week and tonight happened again. I'm going to hang up PR for a while. I work on computers.. networks for a living, just don't have the energy after work. In a few months I'll check if any of my old friends showed up then I might give it a whirl again.

If you have scheduled defrag on your system make sure its not running when you start your game. Just a thought.

Hey! The same is happening here. Loading first stucks at 15%, then 29, 30 or 31% and i cant stand seeing it for more than twenty minutes. Unloading is also the same slow...

Dont know what to do... Latest nvidia drivers, microsoft NET framework 4.5 with latest updates (i thought that the problem started after installing GeForce 327.23 Driver )

I have a Samsung 830 and don't have these load times.

Did you do a proper 4k alignment of your SSD?

Download the Samsung Magician software
Samsung SSD (Solid State Drive) 840 series | Samsung SSD Website

and do the 4k alignment using GParted on a LiveCD or LiveUSB
(You should google for directions, I haven't done this in a year)
This will take a few hours, to do.

Then run Magician again using all the tools to increase performance.

For me it turned out to be NOD32 anti-virus causing this issue. Have to turn off HIPS detection thing when playing PR.

That was a briliant advice which made my ssd a little faster and maybe much more reliable but this:

was the solution! I hadn't notice that the problem occurred since i change from kaspersky to eset internet security... And yes! By disabling HIPS loading was fine!

Amazing! I was ready to unistall and forget it...
