Massive Lag after 5+ minutes of play

Hi, so I've just gotten back from a 9 day holiday before which, Pr 1.0 was playing perfectly for me. But I switched PR on today and had to download a few of the small patches and since then I've tried to play 5 or so rounds on different servers. But every round after about 5-10 minutes my ping jumps up to around 1000 and jumps around erratically but always remains above 300+. (I play local servers with pings of around 70 normally) Sporadic messages of 'losing connection' appear and disappear but the game never seems to crash I just get trapped in a massive lag spike that won't go away until I change servers. I've tried resetting my router and messing with the firewall settings but neither has had any effect.
Well anyway I've been playing PR since 0.6 and I've never had this issue before, it all seems to have begun after one of the patches that have been brought out in the last 9 days. Well anyway, hopefully someone can help me sort this out.
