[SOLVED] Cannot join local Co-op (with modified files)

Hi, I'm new to this forum and don't really know where to put this so I'll just put this here instead.
I've recently got PR for BF2 and played it for awhile. I noticed the ridiculous accuracy and damage (well, in my opinion) so I modified some damage and accuracy of the weapons. I also added pistols to certain kits (modern army issue sidearms to not just officers).
The problem is I wanted to play with my friends using these modifications over LAN and it says we are unable to join public server. We got hamachi running and we could play on standard BF2.
So my question is, is there anyway to get around the "could not join public server......because file could be modified" or something like that?
Edit: I managed to find a workaround. A password is simply required to make the server private.
