PR launcher option failures?

Posted: 2013-08-23 21:06
by Tenke420
I kept getting this error when i'd try and change my graphics,
so i thought I'd try uninstalling and re-installing my PR, it reset my graphics level
& now i still can't get into my options, without it failing
Anyone else having this problem?
Aswell my Mumble never works,
people tell me just to exit it & it'll restart & fix, but it never does,
Hopefully this can all be patched, or do i need to delete my entire battlefield and start from scratch?
ideas? help?

Hiya,

You said you tried all these already, just reposting to make sure:
[R-COM]LITOralis.nMd wrote:Welcome to PR Tenke,

you fastest and easiest route is to clear your profile data using the PRLauncher button on the bottom left that says something like Clear Profile Settings.

Also, I think you manually edited your PRMumble shortcuts and broke it.
Try to delete any advanced Mumble shortcuts you added, and inside the PRLauncher PRMumble shortcut options, remove any keybinds to unusal peripherals, like joysticks, HOTAS, specialized keys on your keyboard, etc.

PRMumble is not recognizing the key you binded a shortcut to, and is kicking out this error message as a result.
If the above did not fix your problem, this will:
'[R-COM wrote:LITOralis.nMd;1940626']Probably incorrect video config settings,
try this:

Let's try another approach:
  1. 1. Write down your BF2 login name and password
  2. 2. Rename the directory C:\Documents and Settings\[USERNAME]\My Documents\ProjectReality\Profiles to C:\Documents and Settings\[USERNAME]\My Documents\ProjectReality\ProfilesBackUp
  3. 3. Start PRLauncher. The profile importer function will start, do NOT import your profile from vBF2, instead use the retrieve profile from GameSpy option, and enter login name and password when prompted.
  4. 4. In PRLauncher, Click Options button,

    In the VIDEO TAB
Choose the smallest resolution with the correct refresh rate for your monitor.
    Untick the Fullscreen tickbox.
    Turn Off the AntiAlias
    Disable VSync
    Set View Distance to 75%
    CLICK APPLY.
    In the GRAPHICS TAB
    Set all settings to LOW.
    CLICK APPLY.
    CLICK CLOSE.
  5. 5. CLICK PLAY. Test PR.
If that works, you can then go back to the PRLauncher Video Tab and GRaphics Tab and set your options to whatever works for your system.

If you go to PRLauncher->SUpport->Copy to Clipboard,->paste here, we'll get your system specs and we'll be able to give you a pretty good idea of what Video and Graphics options are optimal for your PC.[/QUOTE]

None of that worked,
& also " you fastest and easiest route is to clear your profile data using the PRLauncher button on the bottom left that says something like Clear Profile Settings. "
i didn't see anything saying that anywhere on my PR opener,
I guess my PR days have come to a bitter end,

i see it in options before it kicks me out to clear out the settings,
but it gives me the error message & kicks me off before i can do anything.

Here is my system,
I tried to rename the file like you said, didn't work,
i got into options to reset the graphics, that didn't work either,
( which in order to reset them, i had to be very fast to click rest and yes, or else it'd error out and
shut down the entire PRlauncher )
now i can't play due to extreme graphics lag due to lighting...

I went on my mumble,
no settings or anything has been changed,
i reset every single PR setting for... and for mumble,
nothing works still,
mumble fails and never works &
now my graphics are stuck at the settings that come with the game,
and only causing me pure lag.
Couldn't guess how the hell the game would get so screwed up... for no reason.... just went to change my graphics one day and wouldn't let me,
now everything for the game is failing...

Is the profile Steve a administrator privileges profile?

It sounds like a directory permissions issue, which I have no idea why it occurred, and this is a wild arse guess.

right click on the C:\Users\Steve\Documents\ProjectReality\Profiles directory , properties, check the permissions for read and write. Should have Allow ticked for everything except "special permissions".

yeah it is,
and it's been like that for along time, so i have no idea why it started acting up all of a sudden,
& Yupp. did that, had to change one thing doing that, but it still doesn't work..
i'v got no idea how this all happened,
was playing one day, went to change my graphics after playing,
& just stopped letting me change them, now that they're rest i lag too much due to lighting,
iv fixed my mumble up, reset everything, but im always still stuck in the lobby..
Gah!!!
it seems impossible.....

Just tried to play a round with about 6 ppl on the server ... Mumble quality was very poor and would disconnect and reconnect randomly without any indication that it had gone out. When I alt-tabed out of the game to kill mumble (so it could restart) it slowed my computer down to a crawl. I left it that way for about 20mins but it never recovered and I was forced to power off my system.

Im pretty sure the problems im experiencing cant be fixed. The game has gone through too many changes.(Im not complaining you guys have done a great job with all the new content) But my lower end computer just cant keep up with it. I think im just gonna see what happens when I can afford to buy a modern high end gaming computer to play. Till then I think I can only manage to play coop since mumble is not required as much against the ai.

looking on one PR file,
my dmp file in
C:\Users\Steve\Documents\ProjectReality
is empty,
shouldn't there be something in there?
and for mumble, i have no idea how to get it working,
i made sure there's no duplicates,
done sound tests, all works,
for some reason wont connect to servers while im playing,
just get stuck in lobby

Found a fix:

Open C:\Users\NAME\Documents\ProjectReality - Now right click on "Profiles" - Go to properties and un-tick read-only.

Now open up your 1.0 Launcher and go to your options, and select "reset profiles to default" or whatever it says.

Worked for me :)

Looks like your system needs a refresh/reinstall. You have problems with permissions, and thats some ill shate...easier to reinstall it all than fix it.

I'm having the same problem, but it's after windows update forced my computer to restart and crashed PR in the middle of a game. So that might shed some light on things. What's some good stuff to do after a PR game crash by the way? Cache files to clear out or something?

So between the windows update and the crash it caused, I'm not sure where to start here. It also caused PRmumble, the app itself, to start working where before it crashed when I tried to launch it from the windows explorer or from the mumble part of the options in the PR launcher.

I also can't get my computer to open up read-write permissions on the profile folders. In the advanced part of the permissions, I can see that the checkboxes look good, but the read-only checkbox is gray-checked in the folders' properties pane, so I know some of the files are read-only. Except I can't find any read-only files in there. Reinstalling my OS to repair permissions problems is daunting. I'll just have to do it again the next time they crop up.

I tried removing my profile folder and making a new profile within GameSpy (Trekkie does not make a great handle in PR as it turns out), and rather than solve my problem, it just removed the mumble icons from in-game altogether... so it's not even telling me mumble's disconnected.

My firewall's good, everything's running as admin... I was thinking of trying uninstalling all the windows updates, just to eliminate that as a possible cause. But I'd like to try any post-crash cleanup on PR before I do that.

Here's my launcher log:

Well, removing the recent .net updates didn't do the trick, so now I'm going to see what I should do about recovering from a game crash and addressing any permissions problems.

I also tried removing the pr mod from my bf2 mods folder, and the project reality folder from my documents, and reinstalling PR. No success. Next I'm going to try making a new user account in Windows and trying from there. If that doesn't work, I'll turf it, uninstall BF2 and PR, make another user account again, and then reinstall them both. Hopefully that does something. But I'd love some other ideas on what could be making the options pane fail like this. I can't find any articles on stuff to do after a system crash that's not caused by the game.

OMG I fixed it!!

[k it turns out I only fixed the launcher bug... my in-game mumble is still not working... push-to-talk (B button) works, but local and squad radio's not working]

By doing a system restore back to just before the windows update!

So I guess if you're having this problem, and it's new, try system restoring back to before the problem was happening.
