I'm very interested in Project Reality. Does it require a legit copy of BF2 or is a torrent ok? Is there a formal ranking and unlock system? Thanks.

Hello and welcome! Yes it requires a legit copy, I believe Origin is having a sale on BF2 at the moment:
Battlefield 2 Complete Collection Download the PC Game from the Origin Store
(you may be able to play singleplayer with illegal copy, I don't really know)
No formal ranking or Unlock system at the moment.
Also don't forget to read the manual, it helps alot for yourself and for others

thanks. Damn all they have is the complete collection and its 20 bucks. I bought the original game when it first came out. Dont have it anymore. I'll probably try a torrent. Do you log into PR the same way you would log into BF2?

If you still have the CD key you purchased, installing from a torrent will be a viable option (since the CD key is the licence, really, the install media is irrelevant).

The Complete Collection is on sale for $5.99US. A torrent will not work (edit - unless you have your old key, as per Psyrus above).
PR is essentially a new game, with its own launcher. There is no stat tracking, and I can't imagine there ever will be. For good reason.
Spend the six bucks. Read the manual. Join a server and jump into an infantry squad. Get a rifleman kit. Tell them you're new to PR. Stay right the fuck away from any assets, be it a vehicle or special/limited kit, until you've practiced to fluency in local/co-op.

Hi there Flyersfan, I'm sure you will find PR to be one of the most enjoyable shooter experiences ever.
To start off I recommend taking some time to read the manual (or at least skimming over it), it will save you a lot of trouble in-game. You can find a link to read it
here while the installer is downloading.
Welcome to PR!

Hi and welcome to PR!
Install PR, read the manual to have good grasp of it and hop on some multiplayer server after! Plus, don't hesitate to tell people that you are new and don't hold back asking questions. People will be willing to help.
You can also have a look

Don't be afraid to ask your squad mates for help and advice; the PR player-base is full of nice, friendly people.

Welcome flyersfan!
Welcome to Project Reality.
Ask your squad leader questions. Play Tough, and the most important thing...
Have Fun! ♥
Also, do not use assets that you do not know how to operate. Example: Chopper's and Jets.
They are extremely different from good ol' vBF2.
There is a tutorial by slorgs on youtube iirc about flying jets. (I think, but he has darn good PR tutorials!)
GO FLYERS!

Like everyone else said, run infantry for now. Until you get good at it, then start branching out into other things. Most people are willing to help the new guys. Have fun. Project Reality is the best game you will ever play.

Welcome! You won't be leaving the chair for A LONG time! Read the manual that is on the PRBF2 launcher and go on training servers if you want to run in more complex squads such as CAS (Close Air Support jets and Attack Helos), TRANS (Transport helis) and TANK\APC it has everything you need to ask

A good idea is to join the INF\MECHINF (Infantry or Infantry + APC) squads for now. Ask your squad leaders for kits, you can select a few on the spawn screen, but most are in the supply crates, simply press T near it while in a squad and select the proper kit should it not be on the spawn screen. Only the Crewman and Pilot kits can operate advanced vehicles (Crewman: APC, Tanks, some armored trucks, Pilot: Jets and Helos, obviously,) We are all looking forward to seeing you on the Battlefield!

If you do want to start flying right away, (which many do) I'd recommend joining a co-op server or creating your own local server to play on. There really is no better way to practice flying. Welcome, and have fun!!!

Welcome! Take Rifleman kit. Join a squad with a good name like...infantry. Stay away from squads called tank, apc, trans, cas and complex shit. Tell people you are new to PR. Look at your map OFTEN (there are no arrows over friend or foe, just kit colours) . Use local chat, locally, and global chat distantly. RTFM and don't take it too seriously the game should be fun (& frustrating as #@$*) and be respectful, unless you really know the ********.
