nuanced tricks for pr

with that intro video, it made me think of all of the tricks that we've picked up over the years. there are some that are essential, but we never really take the time to lay them out for the newer players.

i wanted to start with marking the map as a squad leader. this is a little bit of a lost art with integrated mum, but it's something that everyone needs to know how to do with accuracy.

place a mark on your squad map (caps lock). look at the bottom of your map to identify the range to the mark.
select your radio and bring it to your ear. once you've done this, use the rose and you'll see that the center option says "set contact distance." click this and select the appropriate range to your marker.
here's the important part: take one step forward and one step backwards (this will guarantee a precise mark. why is not important. just do it always). bring up the rose and mark your target appropriately.

this same process is also true for setting marks for mortar requests or cas requests using the gtld. marking the map accurately is hugely beneficial to your team for obvious reasons. mark everything. don't assume that telling squad leaders in mum about that tank is sufficient. just because they are leading the squad does not mean that they are effective communicators. all it means is that they made the squad first. that moment you took might save a full transport heli and give your team that edge to win.

another trick: when pulling ammo from a supply crate (any size) always request a rifleman and drop an ammo bag adjacent to the crate. this will substantially extend the lifecycle of that precious bit of ammo in the field. plus it reloads faster. it's more than a courtesy. if there's a hat kit operating near you and you're trying to pull a bandage when the crate pops, then you've messed up. you've messed up real good man.

please feel free to add your own. there are, i'm sure, hundreds of similar examples. for some players, these are simply muscle memory. think about your own tricks we use instinctively and post. better players make better matches.

Maybe make it a bit shorter and make some formatting to see the different tricks, like that ;) :

1- Set accurate markers: Select Radio, Set Distance (see on map), Move a bit, Set Type of mark

2- Instead of resupplying directly from a crate: Request Rifleman, drop ammo and reload your previous kit

3- If you are dead/wounded, only people that are dead/wounded aswell can see what you type in the chat

4- If you drop a field dressing on top of a soldier that needs a revive, he will be able to see clearly and sprint right after the revive

5- If you never hear anything when in a chopper/apc: check this: http://www.realitymod.com/forum/f10-pr- ... ution.html

6 - To check if a kit is available even when not being near a crate: Press T and request the specific kit. If it says that you have to be near an APC/Crate, it is available. If it says that it is not available, you cannot grab it from a crate at the moment.

7- Area Attack - unlike other markers, you need to see the target in order to call in an area attack

8 - Crates can be dropped through statics -> You can drop crates inside buildings when being in a heli.

9- All helos that have the entrance in their back drop the crates in that position as well. All other helos drop their crates on the right

10 - opening the map with CAPSLOCK is faster than opening it with M

there's alot more ;)

Map has still one second delay with capslock, but your Squadlist will pop up immediatly

General Tips
  1. Track and scan for enemies using the corner of your screen - you can see slightly farther there than at the center of the screen. This tactic is especially critical for armor engagements. note: this applies to nearly all first-person shooters
  2. When toggling thermals, use the right mouse button instead of left to avoid misfires.
  3. When going from prone to standing, tap the crouch button instead of the jump button to avoid risking unnecessary depletion of stamina.
  4. When using the grappling hook to descend from a ledge, tap the right mouse button to create a perfectly deployed rope.
  5. If an enemy approaches unexpectedly as you are reloading, you can abort the reload by switching weapons briefly.
Tips that v1.0 Changed or Eliminated
  1. When grabbing a kit to help shovel FOBs, picking up a crewman kit was advisable due to its lack of incendiary grenades. In v1.0, incendiaries have been removed so feel free to grab a rifleman kit.
  2. As an insurgent, dropping ammo bags on a cache used to be a risky move - it enabled a single enemy soldier to blow a cache by rearming their incendiaries. As above, the lack of incendiaries now means this tactic is beneficial (helps friendlies reload faster).

  1. If your the driver of any vehicle with a gunner (tank, apc, jeep), you can quickly make it stop moving by swithing to another seat for a sec or two. To help prevent the ood sliding effect on flat ground, tab reverse 1 time.
  2. If your vehicle has entered a "disabled" state. (your gun turret is jammed, your tracks are broken, or similar) and your being repaired then a driver needs to be in the driver seat at the moment it is fixed or the gunner will go to a black screen
  3. Players that rely heavily on extra ammo like Handheld AA, HAT and LAT should be very careful with spending there own field dressing as it would then require more than 1* ammo-bag to rearm. (*granted that you by default only have 1 round to shoot)
  4. Pretty much any vehicle and weapon system starts with weapon 1 being most effective against vehicels and nr 2 being effective against infantry. nr 3 is either smoke or Atgm and nr 4 is smoke if available. Mortar weapon nr 1 is mistakenly being used against infantry just because it appears to have a bigger blast radius.
  5. A 50 cal mounted on a Humvee and AP weapons can "open" doors the same way a shotgun can.
  6. Some Vehicles like the VN3 (Chinese armored car) can use it's own turret to un-flip itself. Just point it "upwards" into the ground.
  7. If there is a medic in your vehicle he will heal everyone including himself unless if the medic is driving or gunning the vehicle. IFV "gun-ports" are an exception (seat F6 if available and F7 or F8 in Bradley's and WZ551's and so on.). The BMP3's F7 and F8 are not "gun-ports" but actual gunner positions.
  8. You cap at the same rate being inside a vehicle as outside. (pilots cannot cap)

What is the trick for opening the map and walking at the same time? I can never seem to nail it.

I'm pretty sure you just need to open the map with the open map button (default "m") and use WASD. You can't move with the squad menu (default Caps Lock) open though.

About the topic, I heard that if you stand further away from ammo bags/boxes then they give you more ammo total (last longer) Can anyone confirm?

A good old cheese tactic in a firefight is to crouch/prone behind cover, pop your head out a couple times so you can adjust your aim towards the target. Then stay still for a moment while aimed (but still behind cover) finally stand up and fire immediately and the aim should be pretty accurate (unless it's changed in 1.0 or something) although you just went from crouch to standing. Works way better than just standing and waiting for the sights to become accurate. Don't know if this explanation made any sense to anyone lol

Use M to open the map and walk. You can fight and do anything with the M map open. The CapsLock map will not allow you to move.

When walking, press L/K/J and enjoy autopilot!

more accurate mortars
place a mark on your map for a range to target. these marks work on 50m intervals. when you consider deviation, you can be 75-100m off target and still be doing everything correctly. here's how to fix this:

start moving the mark away from the target. locate the change point.
example: target range says 750m. as you move the mark away from the target (adding range), locate the changeover where the reported range swaps to 800. this 800m mark is relatively accurate. with this 800m reference, use the keypad distances to estimate a more accurate target range. the target is not 750m. it is actually ~790m.

this attention to detail can make the difference between flushing 15 guys away from their fob or killing 15 guys and their fob.

if a grenade lands near you go prone and stick your head in a wall/create/anything solid to minimize the damage.

If you are bleeding from enemy fire as a civilian, jumping down from a rooftop grants you a martyr death (still need to follow the martyr rules).

You can control your character with the caps lock map open? I can't. I have to use the M map key.

Well you can continue to walk if you open the map with CAPS, but nothing more. Just like auto-walk.

If you are fighting against blufor as a marksman/sniper, aim for the legs. It will guarantee you a one shoot kill, just like with headshot due to the kevlar vests used by blufor.

-

Always aim directly on the target no matter the range, there is no bullet drop in PR.

If you are playing with bolt-action, pump-action guns. You can see if you hit the target without immediate reload by holding the LMB. (Really useful for snipers)

Dude, I don't think ways to avoid being tracked by admins are what we are looking for in this thread.

Not sure I can find a video but you can test it yourself by taking an Abrams into the desert and firing the coaxial MG. You will see the drop of tracers at longer ranges.

I think though as infantry most engagement distances in game are deceiving becuase what looks like 1/2 mile is usually more like 400 meters away. So it appears as if rounds are not affected by gravity.
