Can you mod bullet penetration values?

Right now waaaaay to much stuff in PR blocks bullets. A metal fence a 1/8 of an inch thick stops all bullet/tank rounds.

now short of destructable terrain, is there any way to adjust either the penetration value of the rounds, or of the objects themselves? This point came to me in the thread about why people don't shoot more in this game. In real life we used thousands of rounds in relatively small engagements because they would penetrate the walls so we had some chance to take out targets without the need to see them. For starters it would encourage people to use places like bunkers and such would are thick enough to stop all bullets, instead of hiding behind some small tree that a 5.56 could easily pass through.

It would finally give supressive fire a reason to be used aside from bluring the enemies vision. It would also mean people would use a lot more ammunition per engagement and thus increase the usefulness of sticking with a riflemen/supply box/APC/supply vehicle.

If its not possible then oh well :(

the wooden panels in builing sites, and corrigated iron fences aswell as chain link fences can all be shot through. i think it has something to do with what materal it is and what projectile it bieng shot at it(its why im guessing why bullets pass though them but sabots dont)

Yeah, give a tank corrigated iron armour and it would be invulnerable vs other tanks....

Magnum can shot through a CO2 patron, and AK a railway track. It's true. However who knows, what's with HP (Hollow-point) or other anti personal ammunition, which has diferent ballistic?

Kenwayy I agree 100%!!

Whether its possible or not??

Now dont quote me on this but I believe its possible to edit penetration values on new statics to whatever the PR team deems best. However all the old vanilla bf2 statics CANNOT be edited.

Youll notice on al basrah at the village, there is a small wooden shack to the north of the village sitting by the river (NOT the fishing shack, this is just a wood cabin/house). This is a custom static and you can shoot right through it! As it should be.

So hopefully future PR maps will have more and more custom statics with more realistic penetration values!

What I'm saying is that pretty much 99% of the 'buildings' out there, anything .50 and higher would penetrate. When I can hide behind a 1 inch thick wooden door frame and be completely immune to 5.56mm fire, that's ****. Give people a reason to use suppressive fire by making it suppressive.

Yeah, vBF2 can already do the "penetrative matierals" it even says on the box "know the difference between concealment and cover"

Right now it's done pretty weak, hopefully PR could be able to elaborate on it. A generic palm tree is not usually good cover for rifle ammunition...i mean it's not exactly thick and dense is it, it's wood.

Sooooooo....this likely to happen or not? .50 should penetrate everything up to a concrete bunker. 7.62 everything short of thick outside building walls. 5.56 has pretty good penetration as well, not 7.62 but eh.

Editing stock objects would increase the size of the download by a LOT. Also, you would be limited to around 5 material types for all objects, as only those 5 can be penetrated in BF2.

Please don't talk like you know what you're talking about, unless you know what you're talking about. Thank you.

Once you got past 1 gig, it doesn't really matter to many people. Just start the DL, go have dinner and a drink, then come back. I'd just like to hear about the feasability and the chance of hit happening. This would increase the use of supression fire, which means riflemen would have a point as well as a vast change of gameplay (give people a reason to seek appropriate cover etc.

Sorry to revive an old topic, but is anything being done with bullet penetration?

yeah, an AK-47 round should be able to go where it wants to.

If it is not too difficult, please increase penetration a lot! I was actually kind of surprised it was not already, as realistic bullet penetration is very important. It would be a major improvement in gameplay, and the realism.

lol KoC posted a very negative post though.

Anyways, bullet penetration would be awesome. Insurgents hiding behind a wall waiting to hear the USMC footsteps and then just ripping into the wall ambush style would be totally awesome and enhance the game play soo much more.

Pretty much everything can penetrate sheet rock and plywood while most weapons can penetrate brick and concrete. See the following video:

http://www.militaryvideos.net/videos.php?videonum=43

From the video, only the M16 and M249 SAW have difficulties with brick and concrete, although I would expect the M9 and M4 would have difficulties with brick and concrete as well, given that the M9 is a hand gun and the M4 is based on the M16.
