New(ish) to PR:BF2

Hi guys,

I recently downloaded all the PR:BF2 files, waited for all the updates, fixed the Visual C++ bug etc etc, before finally logging on last night.

What was I greeted by? Some prick telling me off over the radio, without even so much as a "hi"...

I honestly expected a little more, from a group like this. Clearly a lot of effort had gone in, and I congratulate you for releasing V1.

Is PR really that stuck up? I was hoping for a friendly, supportive community, that would welcome me, and accept me. I wasn't doing anything stupid, simply trying to learn (like where the hell I was on the map!).

In years gone by I've played PR, with a much better reception I have to admit...

Please, can someone point me to the PR 10 commandments, before I offend another "pro".

I just joined a BF2 clan (after years of playing), and it's been one of the most enjoyable experiences I've had. Great people, funny. informative and generally respectful. I assumed PR would be equally inviting, perhaps a little more.

I apologise to whoever I offended, and hoping that I just got the wrong squad leader (or whoever you were...). Also apologise the the PR community, I'm certainly not attacking you as a whole! In the past I've had great fun, having on-site, squad snapshots taken, and generally having a great time :)

Game looks and sounds fantastic, from previous memories. I just hope I'm allowed to participate.

Is this a normal thing, or have I just gotten unlucky? :shrk:

Regards,
Craig

well you can't judge everyone after experiencing just one person

I think it was probably just a misunderstanding or you most likely where unlucky but then again there will always be nasty people no matter where you are

the forums are great tool to ask for/find help

I suggest finding someone experienced on the forums and start playing together to learn what PR really is about

Just like every other game PR has alot of ******** and trolls. If you move to another town and step into the city for the first time and the first contact you make with a native is not nice, will you also assume that the whole town is a shithole and move out again?

Just tell people to shut their mouth and report them if anyone insults you. If its a massive insult then admins will step in (depends on server though, on a few servers admins would not even give a shit if someone blew a nuke inside your own main).

Join another squad and warn the Squadleader that you are new and might need clearer instructions while in battle since you do not know the usual PR drill. First of all read the manual and be sure to know all the basic stuff about PR. Because you will inevitably ask your SL and Squadmates about those trivial facts all the time and that will definitively piss them off since you could easily find it out on your own if you would take 5min and read that manual.

I've met all kinds of people in PR over the years. People that hold grudges over some small mistake that happened three rounds ago, people that care literally only for themselves and will gladly allow and entire squad to die if it means that the have a small chance of getting rezzed, and the outright trolls and cheaters.

But then i've met really cool people that are really understanding and healpful. The PRTA guys are awesome, the GS guys are awesome, the prWARs guys are awesome, and thats just scratching the surface.

It is a very focused community, though, so until people get to know you you might have to deal with the occasional condescending douchbag.

Harden up just a little :P You're not going to make everybody happy all the time.. Is somebody's being a ****, don't stress too much about it - it's their issue to deal with :)

Come and say hi to the majority of the Aussie players over at BigD too.

Were you using regular rifleman kit when someone was yelling at you?

Were you spawning on opposite of map from your squad?

Were you doing anything wrong?

Did you not tell anyone you were new?

If you did something wrong, some times people can get angry because they think you are trolling(request useful limited kits, drop it on ground out of base...etc.).

Id say PR player base has gone from casual to Hardcore players, over the past few years, because those who used to be casual know think they know everything and push un-skilled players around. Therefore the gap between the skill level have increased and for some reason it creates more hatred situations.

Id say the recipe for disaster for a new player in PR is if you join a squad, or worse lead a squad and your not speaking by using mumble and your not typing either when your being asked directly or indirectly.

So lets say you join a squad and your not communicating at all and you take a kit or do something that is against the rules or is getting your squad killed or ruin there plan, then you make yourself an easy target for all kind of hate and swearing.

Now since you made a whole post about this I don't assume you where also communicating in-game so in your case this is not the problem, you seem to have run into a short tempered social-challenged person (to put it politically correct).

My advice is to new players who don't mind chatting with strangers is that they can just join a squad and learn the game by asking questions.

If you are more casual and just want to communicate a little bit you really should read the manual first or watch the youtube tutorials so you don't run into big problems.

And if your English skills are not the best and your not speaking the native language of the server either you might want to search for someone maybe through the forums that speak a language you understand better and get him to help you out with PR.
Or you could simply ask if people would type the important information since that is often easier to understand.

What I'm trying to say is not that the new players are at fault, it is the old grumpy veterans that get the idea that everyone who play PR has the same skill level or better than themselves and anything less is unacceptable and perfectly fine to ***** about.

When you start playing PR you will be having baby-skin and after a while your either not playing anymore or you developed Rhino skin :D . You seriously have to activate your "bullshit filter" when playing PR or you will never survive, just like real life ;)

I'm sorry you had such a junky experience. As others have said, please do not judge us all by that standard. My clan prWARs would never allow such behavior towards a new(ish) player. We are happy to teach the ins and outs of 1.0 :-)

To be fair even some of the rude guys ain't always like that. PR can be really fustrating some times and not everybody knows how to mange that with no offend. If you are new you will get even kicked sometimes from squads but don't take it personal and you will most likely find a squad that will take you and help you and also clans are a good idea if you can for example i on my first time landed in an IDF clan squad which made it easier for me to play properly and i even joined them and learned alot.

Bottom line: don't worry you will enjoy it :)

Wow, wasn't expecting such a response! Thank you :)

I did try to reply a few days back, but Firefox managed to lose the whole thing, wasn't going to re-type.

I was in a squad, and communicating. Someone asked me to let another squad use a truck, which I did. I used another truck before being told off (for lack of a better word). I did in fact keep re-spawning at the opposite side of the map, even though I thought I'd selected a closer spawn point. That's how it happened.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not attacking PR or it's community, I like to express my initial impressions, because they're raw, true and real. I got the impression PR was actively trying to push itself forward, publicly, and I understand how important feedback is. It seemed a waste to not mention my first impression experience (first time since ages ago I mean).

I'm just a different person, bit up and down, but that's kinda reflective of the different people and reactions out there. I understand marketing a little, and wanted to contribute, as strange as that might sound :) Many wouldn't bother I believe, and that's unfortunate for a group looking to expand.

Thank you for all your supportive, open minded replies. I will indeed harden the truck up and rejoin, probably after I finish writing this

Please accept my apologies if I've offended anyone. Truth is, that SL wasn't necessarily being aggressive or negative, I more than likely miss-interpreted a well intended comment + a slightly anxious/nervous outlook at the time. But again, I believe it's all relevant.

Cya's on the battlefield, assuming I can find you!
