let me say first i dont have the best pc and i know verry little to nothing about pcs and how they work id love to learn tho but cant find anyone who will teach me


so when i found out about project reality mod i instantly buyed the bf 2 20 euros version i was kinda disapointed with the bf 2 vanilla but it was all ok since i bought it to play project reality anyways.

so heres my problem im extremely excited to play this mod the menu screen is mooth and really fast but when i load a map it takes forever getting the loading bar to 100% doesnt take that long but after i get to 100% it gives me this message about validating? in the lower corner

then when it finally loads its pretty laggy i can walk around allone but when a firefight starts it kinda becomes unplayable

now i realise that its my fault and responsibility to upgrade my pc but

1 i dont know what to upgrade how much it costs or whats best

2 dont have the money atm

what i also found strange is that i cant put settings on low the option simply isnt there is there any info about this being added? i cant see why u wouldnt add the option to put settins on low or turn of shadows/spec effects this way people with bad pcs can play this wonderfull mod

People with bad computers have been suffering from some changes made, the greater of them being the fact that you can't set "Lighting" settings on Low (only "nominal" Low, which is in fact Medium), and this is the greatest FPS killer.

You need like 4G plus memory or you might get some lag in some actual graphics.
PR:BF2 is completely different from BF2 vanilla. Not only the gameplay but also firmware requirements.

Post your current PC status, and people can tell you which parts you need to upgrade.

Sounds like you need to turn down the effects which can bring down FPS in firefights, aswell as your graphics in general. If you missed it the video options are in the PR menu, NOT ingame, go into options on the opening menu and youll find them.

if you want a little more framerates after putting settings on low, ctrl alt del and set bf2.exe priority to high or realtime by right clicking it in services. The slow loading looks like low ram so you could try programs like wincleaner memory optimizer to help clear your ram.

i should prob mention that i found out yesterday how to put settings on low and i did that now i have no more problems walking around its just the firefights when therews allot of led going both sides get kinda laggy and the load screens are still long as hell and lastly gras fields are literally in every collor of the rainbow

edit: my pc seems slower these days and it freezes completely sometimes making even ctrl-alt-del or alt-f4 non working
ive used disk cleaner many times as its the only way i know of to clean my pc

well, I sort of had a issue like this.

But I used the program called "gamebooster".
I guarantee it will work for you.

I highly recommend you give this a shot. It closes background apps that are unneccesary to be in use.
I went from around 23fps to about 79fps (varies) using gameb00ster.

those are some old parts you got there

Pentium 4 1GB RAM and a radeon X600

I am surprised you can even run it


I strongly suggest you upgrade your computer because you are a couple generations behind

We can all help with suggestions for computer components if you are not sure what to buy

but if you cannot upgrade there isn't much you can do to improve your gameplay besides lowering everything


as for gamebooster that will marginally improve your performance so don't expect too much out of it

CPU is a bit old I assume.

If u updated ur RAM, I suggest u change ur OS to Windows7. Or U might suffer CTDs.

Actually I suggest u get a brand new PC. there are many games up on coming.

im giving the gamebooster thing a go atm i hope it does what Matty said it should do but im gonna listen to rushn advice and not expect to much of it

i would apreciate if u guys could tell me whats most important to upgrade should i get a new pc alltogether? (i think getting a new pc is the best thing but i dont know what will get me most for my buck)
and id apreciate if someone could tell me what every part of a pc does like RAM,CPU,CTD,OS

i wont be able to get a new pc or upgrade for 2-3 months due to me not having a job atm ( working on that )

edit: the gamebooster thing did not work i downloaded it and then tryed to install then it said it doesnt support the windows i have

Battlefield 2 doesn't utilize above 4GB.

You need to buy a Graphic card, up to 1024mb of ram would be Ok, price is around up to 100 euros in EU, u need to buy yourself ram up to 4 GB (2x 2GB), not more cause 32 application will use only 3.8 GB. And all will be working good!

Its around max. 200euros investment, not much.

Buy a new PC, I don't see it worth updated your current build.

Ram will help with loading times as well as not lagging when running higher textures.
Graphics card will help with effects such as bullet dust and all around graphics, and higher screen resolutions.
Cpu will help with calculations, for bf2and pr this is not as necessary as say flight simulator x since there arent as many calculations. Pr will use more cpu than regular bf2 though.

For a cheaper pc that should run pr pretty good, ill recommend the following. I havent been keeping up with the pc component market in years, but my gtx 580, intel q9650, 2 gigs ram and xp on a 2560x1440 monitor works and loads great still. I have a laptop that runs it better, though with some i7 processor, nvidia gt 550m, a worse graphics card and it runs windows 7 64bit and has 8 gigs ram.

For some starting ideas for a low price id get a nvidia gtx 650 gpu, windows 7 64 bit. Any mid range intel i7 cpu should be fine. 4 or more gigs of ram should be fine.
With that youll run all high settings at pretty good framerates even in battle with lots of things going on. Both my computers do very well already and the recommended one is better than both of mine. My lowest fps is like 30 and averages 40-50.

ok id rather buy a new pc then upgrade if im gonna do something im gonna do it right the first time

so what pc in EU (prefer netherlands) would u guys recommend me? i want a pc that will last at least a couple of years easy

min requirement is that it should be able to run planetside 2 smoothly without a problem

and what are the good pc brands? ( ive been a console gamer for a long time so know nothing even tho i used to play on the best pcs that were outthere when i was 5-7 )

ive heard alienware has overpriced pcs that are even worth their money?

4GB is okay for the GAME.
But system and some backgrounds need RAM too.

I can give you some tips on buying a PC and the basics of what a PC consist of.

Your first choice for the common gamer who don't know anything about building PC's is to pick a PC with the word "GAMING" on it. In my experience you get a lot of extra features like over-clocking and other fancy tweaks that you will never fully use and if the PC has a fancy brand name it is often over-priced like with the Apple IPhone etc. It works as intended but you pay extra for the fancy package.

Your second choice is to build a PC from components you pick from a web store where they might provide a "PC builder tool". You pick and chose the part's and they guarantee they work together and they assemble your "custom" PC and make sure it works before shipping. You probably won't have unlimited options but maybe more options than the "GAMING" PC setup.


Your third choice if you want to get your feet wet is to attempt to build your own PC. If it is your first time and your money is limited I strongly recommend you find a friend that knows what he is doing and get him to help you out the first time so you don't waste your hard earned money. That being said, it has never been more fool-proof than it is today, although there is limitless combinations and limitless bugs that may occur.


When it comes to brands in my experience there isn't that much of a difference anymore, as long as you don't buy some no-name brand made for china.
ASRock, ASUS, GIGABYTE and MSI are all good for gaming to name a few.

First you need to choose a Central Processing Unit (CPU)
(Recommended for PS2 is Intel i5 processor or higher / AMD Phenom II X6 or higher)
The CPU does all the calculations needed to run a Program/Game except Graphic's.
A slow CPU shows if your PC takes a long time to start-up or to begin a program/game or if the PC get's "stuck" briefly.

Secondly you need to choose a Graphics Processing Unit) GPU
(Recommended for PS2 is nVidia GeForce GTX 560 series or higher / AMD HD 6870 or higher)
The GPU is working with the Graphic's tasks so the CPU don't have to.
The GPU can be one or even two identical Graphic cards connected to the MB through a specific slot. Today's standard is PCIe v3.0
The Graphic Card comes with it's own designated RAM (Random-Access Memory) (recommended 1GB total for PS2)

Thirdly you need to chose a Motherboard (MB)
The MB is the largest component in your PC, and there is several choices you need to make before picking one out.
1: What type of CPU socket do I need? (this depends on the CPU model you got)
2: How many SDRAM slot's does it have and is the total max RAM enough for me? (8GB or more is recommended for PS2)
3: What type of PCI ports does it have and can my Graphic-Card Physically fit inside?
4: How many HDD (Hard Disk Drives) do I want to use including SSD (Solid State Drive)? and what standard do they use? SATA 1.5, 3, or 6
5: What does the IO shield offer? USB ports? etc.

Other notes to make about the MB the normal size is ATX which fit with a standard ATX tower Casing for example. ATX-e cases are a little bigger and makes it easier to fit in large graphic's cards, but it is normally not necessary.


Other things you need is a power supply, if it isn't included with the case. There are websites available to calculate how much power your pc needs but you should always go over by maybe 20% since PSU (power supply units) normally are very inefficient when above 80% load. Save the planet

My own rule of thumb for a gaming pc the cost of the components look like this.

25% GPU
20% CPU
15% MB
15% RAM
25% Other (PSU, HDD, SSD)

Casing, Screens, Fans, keyboard/mouse etc. not included. since they have no direct impact on performance.

I hope I didn't lose you completely through this wall of text, but you can always ask again or search YouTube for tutorials. Some of them are quite detailed.

Actually those aren't horrible parts. I have worse or the same, and BF2 plays perfectly, although Project Reality tends to be choppy but works, and to add to that I am using a laptop, so the problem I think is because he is using a 1024 monitor, which if it is running it on that setting would be slowing it down for sure.
