Bring the Low video settings back

So, while I know there may be some advantage by playing PR on Low, check what I found while watching a video:
Advantages only on Low... okay...
And while this may seem like a selfish suggestion, I know many other people that aren't able to play PR (or play with bad frame rate), because the Devs removed the ability to set some settings on Low, specially the greatest FPS killer on the history of BF2, Lighting.
I don't mind playing with Geometries or Terrain on Medium/High, they don't take away much FPS, but Lighting in an absurdly big FPS killer, and provided an almost not notable advantage.

Many devs are worried about the possible implications this may bring for competitive gaming between clans etc.
One idea we are thinking about however, but no guarantees we will implement it, is an "Ultra Low GFX" option that will put all the settings on low, but on top of this force the player to play at a View Distance setting at 50% or 75% or so of that of the level. This way any advantage they may have from running on the low settings, they will loose from players potentially "shooting out of the mist" at them, as well as significantly increasing their FPS at the same time. Anyone who doesn't want to play with this serious disadvantage of the lack of VD, while also playing with the other slight advantages Low GFX brings, can always choose to run on current medium-low settings or above without this disadvantage.
But right now that I must stress is only an idea that's floating around, our key guy for implementing it is currently really busy with r/l stuff and not sure if its really possible, or if he will have time in the future to do it etc but we will have to see
As for your video, are you sure that's v1.0? Also any idea what map it is, what part of the map etc and what settings the player was playing on?
At the end of the day however there are going to be differences between different gfx settings and we can't hope to have them all fair unless everyone is forced to play at the same level, which isn't going to happen but we are looking at minimising the advantages and disadvantages there may be between them.

Thats the worst idea ever.
Whats wrong, give us the ability to set lightning on low and we will all be happy.
I dont even

Worse than not having any true low gfx as we currently have?
If you don't like it, upgrade your PC. The idea behind this is to give people who can't afford to upgrade, a way to play while also stopping from people who use the low gfx as an exploit to give them an advantage in clan matches etc.

I like the idea im up for it being implemented so i can play on my shitty laptop now and again.

This idea is really disturbing. Why can't you just fix the game to it will have performance like in latest build of beta or even like 0.98? Instead of fighting against people who will exploit graphics settings, you will just make people with older systems perform worse. The sniping with current view distance is hard because of this fog and with 50% view distance it will be unplayable, same for the CAS, it will be like flying in a milk shake.
As Inspektura said, that's the worst idea ever.

lol'd hard @ devs justification. Like there no more serious issues. Some people will always have an advantage.
- I have a good 24" FullHD display with bigger FOV than those who plays 1024x768. I suggest you guys to start limiting the resolution.
- I have the better headset & soundcard so i can hear things better than someone. Force audio settings to low for everyone.
- Oh and i've wrote some pr-specific apps for overwolf and using it all the time having an advantage (check it out btw), but there is a hint: overwolf does not works with winXP. Disallow win7 users to play.
- Someone from a well-known clan draws an aimpoint on the screen and putting a video on youtube about HAT'ting cobras without aiming through the scope.
- Some people actually using hacks and dont get caught.
the list can be continued since you can't control everything.
What? Low lighting setting? lol.

I don't think it is a bad idea. If you want to play PR 1.0 with the FPS you desire, without upgrading your system, you will have to sacrifice. It can't be both ways. The view distance has to be lowered because if it isn't, it puts players of normal graphics settings at a disadvantage. You can't have your cake and eat it too.

We are always working on optimizing the mod, the thing is that takes a lot of time and effort to do for even the slightest improvement.

Just to be clear this is personally not my view on how PR should be, I'm giving the general view of the Dev team as to why gfx settings have been limited etc.
I'm just putting the idea out there for this ultra low gfx setting to see what you guys think, as many people who really have to run on low gfx, do have to lower the VD settings as well as it is, forcing it is just a way to ensure it isn't exploited by people who can run on high settings.

Yeah this is why i said "devs". But the actual point is not about minimizing the difference between the players. It's about minimizing the quantity of those who exploits the things as well as
maximizing their advantage. Also why do you refer it to the clan matches? It's not where most of the games going after all. If someone is smart enough to use low gfx he will do it anyway (come on c# launcher isnt that hard to hack), this is why there is a punkbuster screenshots you can look at while these 'clan matches' going, and more than that some rules and agreements may be actually forced there unlike the public games.

Ironically enough, lighting is pretty much the only option that gives you a significant advantage. Anyone remember the pictures someone put up on Kokan, where medium lighting had a guy somewhat visible hiding in the shadows in one of the houses, while low setting had him light up like a christmas tree as the shadows werent rendering

That's a video from 0.973 (AKA 0.98 without the mini-mods), the map is Dragon Fly IIRC, and the guy was probably playing on some high settings,
here is the full video.

Since the game already has performance problems I can't see any map increasing its VD. It depends on the map, Falklands has 1000+ I believe where others only have a few 100 meters. But on most maps with CAS its 600+ which is more then enouph for this game really.

Just as a note, I never said it should be permanent, just like I said on other thread:
SShadowFox wrote:I don't think it would be a problem to let us people with bad PCs to run it on Low again just while they find a better solution for the FPS problems...

As CAS you're not supposed to see targets from far away, have a spotter on the ground to mark you some targets, guide yourself using the map, and request laser targets, that's all.
