I am getting back into the scene with my new PC, and i have everything ready to go, my only problem is that usually this will automatically download to a certain location but this time it is blank. I'm just wondering what I should select for the root battlefield 2 folder.
I have BF2 on steam.

Not exactly sure what your asking help with,
Steam has added a function that allows you to create new SteamLibrary Folders anywhere on your system.
I personally have Steam games in the default location,
Which would be for BF2:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Battlefield 2
and then other games on my U: Drive, i.e. Arma3 is here:
U:\SteamLibrary\Arma 3
You can do the following and install games anywhere you want by using this quick guide:
Finally, An In-Built Way To Choose Steam Install Locations | Rock, Paper, Shotgun
And now, here is the generic installation guide for PR 1.0,
NOTE that Steam automatically updates you to newest version of BF2, no need to install BF2 patch 1.41 and 1.5
'[R-COM wrote:LITOralis.nMd']Important piece of info here is to find which version of BF2 is on your disk, some very old disks require the 1.21 update before you can do 1.41 full, then 1.5 update. Please please please follow the directions below and post this piece of info in your reply. If your BF2 menu has anything lower than 1.21XXXXX in the bottom corner, stop what you are doing and post back here.
Also, make sure to update your video card drivers BEFORE you start installation, will save you some time if anything goes wonky.

Edit your BF2 shortcut and put this in it
