Echo sounds

On some maps i all sounds sound hollow and have an echo, kinda like someone turned on a equalizer with "bathroom" setting or similar.
Example:
[XFIRE]6167eb[/XFIRE]
I get this on forest heavy maps, so far i got it on Dovre, Saarema and Ia Drang.
Sound settings:
Code: Select all
Audio Information
-----------------
Primary Playback: Speakers (SB Recon3D PCIe)
Primary Recording: Microphone (SB Recon3D PCIe)
EAX: True
EAX 1.0: False
EAX 2.0: True
EAX 3.0: True
EAX 4.0: True
EAX 5.0: True
X-RAM: False
Audio Provider: Creative X-Fi
Provider Valid: True
Audio Quality: High
EAX: True
I dont get it when i turn off EAX, but then i hear some sounds across entire map.
Switching from Creative X-Fi to Hardware fixes it as well. Is there any difference between Hardware and Creative when both are on High setting? Or does anyone know another fix for this?

Creative X-Fi drivers, you can try either of the two community made versions, and search the forum for the discussion,
Prevtzer wrote:No, "Creative X-Fi" option is there because only cards with EMU20k (most of the X-Fi cards) sound chip have the advanced positioning algorithms that Battlefield 2 supports and that option unlocks them (true binaural sound instead of 5.1).
If you're only looking for EAX then you can just take your sound card out of the computer because pretty much every integrated sound card these days supports it. The difference is that Creative only allowed for EAX 2.0 (32 stim. voices, occlusion, reverb) to be used for other manufactures, while EMU20k cards have EAX 5.0 (128 stim. voices, occlusion, reverb, and some other extensions).
If you're looking to buy a new card then just go for the Titanium HD. For hardware accelerated games it's still by far the best sound card there is. Also, no BSOD or other issues.

Those didnt help

Could it be a problem that windows is detecting the sound device as speakers even tho i am using head phones?

I'm having this problem too. Currently using X-fi Go Pro usb.
The only way I've "fixed" it was to run a map that doesnt have the problem like fallujah, disconnect, and then play on the map and the problem is gone.
Other stuff:
When you start the game, clicking buttons/scrollbar will have the echo sound effect in the main menu. After joining a server (on a map without the problem), the echo sounds goes away in the main menu.
In past versions, (earliest I remember was around 0.

, newer maps would have this problem, but then 1-2 updates later, those maps wouldnt have this problem, so its definitely fixable.
Also, in the past, I used Alchemy w/ my onboard sound to get this same problem.

Well, neither of you have an actual X-Fi card so you really shouldn't be trying to play with Creative X-Fi as a setting. In fact, PR shouldn't even allow you to select that mode. I have a titanium HD, which comes with additional software. This software lets me choose between Entertainment, Audio creation and Game mode. Game mode is the only one where sound chip's advanced positioning algorithms are "activated". That's what the "Creative X-Fi" setting in BF2 is looking for. So, if I had anything but the Game mode selected I couldn't even select "Creative X-Fi" as a sound option. In both of your cases your cards don't even have that sound chip and don't support those algorithms. So you shouldn't even be able to select it. I'm guessing that's why you have problems.
If you still insist on it, though maybe you could try downloading the newest OpenAL wrapper dll, and copy it to BF2 folder. Can't find the link ATM though, I think if you download OpenAL it places the dll in your Windows - System 32 folder. That restores hardware acceleration in Win7, which might also be causing problems.

Thanks for the reply. Sad to hear that my card seems to be also a "fake" one

I download the latest oalinst.exe, but that isnt doing anything it seems (doesnt update any files). If you happen to the link it would be much appreciated

Pretzver, you know more about this than I, can we use
OpenAL Soft - Software 3D Audio the OpenAL Soft project in BF2/PR?
EDIT: TO ANYONE BROWSING THIS THREAD, DO NOT INSTALL THIS UNTIL WE KNOW IT WORKS!!!

Before screwing up everybody's computer I'd like to say I only know the very basics of this stuff, as I've never had any BSOD related problems with Creative and PR.
What I do know is that there was a .dll file included with my drivers, which I had to copy and replace in system32 folder. Apparently the original file is outdated and the new one restores hardware accelerated sound. But my drivers are meant specifically for Titanium HD which not many people own. Also I remember another guy with TiHD who was getting BSOD even after installing these same drivers (maybe he did a bad install, idk).
IMO the problem for OP and quiet a few others is that they want to play with "Creative X-Fi" settings when they in fact do not own a X-Fi card. PR shouldn't even allow for such setting to be selected, as explained in the post above. So, selecting Hardware as the audio option should solve this issues. This is the 3rd time in 2 weeks I see people without a proper X-Fi card trying to play on Creative X-Fi settings and then complain it's broken, when in fact they don't even know what kind of a sound card they have.
The other option, for people who actually own a proper X-Fi card is to try and copy wrap_aol.dll from the syswow64 folder to the bf2 installation folder & rename it to BF2OpenAL.dll. Reportedly, this solves Win7 BF2 X-Fi constant BSOD issue. However, people still got BSOD in PR (not vanilla) on 2nd or 3rd map load. Something to do with XRAM. The solution for this is to exit the game for a minute or two every other map load. Not perfect, but it might work.
But again, I haven't looked into this whole issue a whole lot and I am not saying this will work. Might be worth a try though.

I tried copying those .dlls, but it didnt help. Guess i really dont have a correct X-Fi card.
Maybe you could create a list of all cards that should support it? As it seems BF2 allows more than those to play on ultra.

i tested the dlls too and they dont seem to do anything when the audio is set to creative x-fi. but if its set to hardware, it may break it depending on which dll u use. i dont know alot about how BF2's audio works, but i think the x-fi audio is separe. The whole replacing the dll was meant for non-xfi cards to get surround sound to work.
anywaysh the reason why i got this usb card and want to use the ultra high setting is cause it can do 128 voices simultaneous. on my onboard sound, it can do like up to 63 voices i think, and in huge huge battles, sounds just start cutting out. for the most part, it works fine. its just some maps have the echo problem, and sometimes in later versions, the problem goes away in the same maps.
