Terrible performance at current version

Hello, guys. Today I got back home after 4 months away and then I decided to download the newest PR version. The last time I had played PR was 01/08. Downloaded the new version and, then, tried to play. Quickly I noted that there was something wrong: my computer performance at PR, for unknown reasons to me, became terrible. I've tried to lower all my graphic settings, re-installed PR and downloaded the latest AMD driver, but nothing could raise my computer's performance.
At the last time I had played PR (august) I could play it fine with most settings maxed out (it was already PR 1.0) and getting 50+ FPS. Today the game's simply unplayable and my FPS are almost always stuck at 15, they rise sometimes to 30~ but get down right after. I made some research here in the forums and I've seen other players complaining about a huge performance loss, but couldn't find anything to help me out.
This is my first vacation day after 4 hard months at college and I really want to be able to play PR again, I'm counting with you to find a solution to my problem.
My specifications are: Phenom 955 BE at 3.0 GHz, 4GB RAM, XFX HD 6870, ASUS M4A88TV-EVO, Corsair G600 series, a 500 Gb HD and a 21' screen (I've always played in 1920x1080).
I'm hoping someone can lead me to an answer, thanks in advance.

But what's the cause of these problems? Something implemented in a minor update after version 1.0 (which was the last I played) is causing this?

There are performance issues in the current version and we're doing our best at finding and fixing them. Unfortunately we haven't been able to put our finger on it just yet :( .

Daniel: these components could handle 1.0 decently and I don't think they're not sufficient to handle the current version. Even though they are almost 3 years old, I think they're not so outdated and can still handle some games. I believe the problem's inside the game coding, as DEVs said and as I've read in some other posts. Anyways, too bad, I really wished to play now. Gotta pray for a fix :/

I hope Daniel was being sarcastic, as your specs are more than high enough to be able to play PR with all settings maxed out with no frame issues.

As AfterDune mentioned, there's something amiss with 1.0 that no one can seem to put their finger on, performance wise... but your particular issue, with it being stuck at 15-30fps at all times points to a different problem.

15FPS is actually the 'minimum' cap for BF2, so your FPS may in fact be lower, I used to experience that when playing on a terrible laptop.

My brother had to purchase a new HD when I was away from home and had to re-install many of the PC's softwares. I don't know ... maybe, for some reason, it could be this integrated video-card ... if you could show me how to view what card's running (and how to switch on the dedicated card if the integrated's selected) I'd be glad (I don't have too much knowledge about PCs). I hope the integrated's selected and the problem could be solved by switching on the 6870. If it's not the issue, then I'll continue to hope for a fix :P
Editing: oh, well, I think the 6870 really is selected, I just played BF3 with medium/high settings with 30~50 FPS right now ...

See now knowing you've recently got a new HDD is vital information, it means that something changed between when you last played and now.

I've got a headache, but if no one else comes to help, I'll give it a crack tomorrow to help you narrow it down.

The first thing we need to establish is if you're connected to the IGP or your HD6870.

Look at the back of your case, which where the video cable plugs into. If it's plugged into the "top" set of output ones (near the USB/Ethernet ports) then it's in the wrong one, if it's plugged into the bottom ones (near the lower end of the case) then it's connected to the HD6870.

I've checked and the connector's plugged in the right spot, where the 6870 connectors pop out of the case.

Alright, let's get all your info at once.

Click start, in the "Search Programs and Files" text box
type in dxdiag
press enter

Let DXDiag run for a few moments, it is collecting info on your PC hardware and drivers.
Then click the "Save all information" button.
Save as window pops up, save it as DXDiag.txt on the desktop

go back to your desktop, open dxdiag.txt, then copy all of it, then paste it in a reply to this thread.

That is my guess as to what the problem is,

Those drivers were released too early. They are buggy.

Download the newest AMD drivers:
Download

Download treexy's driverfusion:
Driver Fusion - The Complete Device And Driver Solution
Install it.
Run it, use it to remove ONLY the AMD graphics drivers.

REBOOT.

install the newly downloaded AMD graphics drivers.

play PR.

You probably want to defragment the C: drive soon too.

I have a question: I downloaded the Catalyst Software Suit, the first download file listed at the page. Is it the right file or should I have downloaded the "Latest Beta Driver", listed right below Catalyst? I think I got the right one, just want to be sure of that.
I'm gonna use Driver Fusion, install the newest driver and run defragmentation while I'm out. As soon as everything's done and PR's tested I'll report back.
Edit: I deleted AMD drivers listed under the "Display" button, now I'm installing the latest Catalyst.

Oh well, as I've said I deleted the previous drivers with driverfusion and then proceeded to install the latest Catalyst Software Suit (released on 09/18, to get to it I had to select Desktop Graphics -> Radeon HD Series -> Radeon HD 6xxx Series PCIe -> Windows 7 64 Bit). After installing and rebooting the PC I ran a new DXDiag and found the same Driver File Version and Driver Version, it seems that the latest Catalyst Software Suit gets me theese buggy drivers.
Editing: I'll try using the beta driver, as the latest Catalyst installs the drivers you said to be buggy. I'm now proceeding to use driverfusion again to uninstall the buggy drivers and then install the Latest Beta Driver, which is the latest driver released for me card. Is this what should be done?

It's your choice, either try the newest Beta drivers, or download older stable drivers.

Well, I've installed the latest beta driver and it has, apparently, fixed the strange lag that was affecting me. However, I do note that I'm running with lower FPS in comparison to what I did in version 1.0; I also note that, depending on the direction that I'm looking at, my FPS suffers a sudden drop. I've read reports of stuff like that in the forum and I think there's nothing I can do about that; it seems the game got heavier in the last updates and that there is some kind of software issue that causes that sudden FPS drops. I'm glad my greatest problem has been fixed, now I hope a future release optimizes the software so these FPS drops are fixed too.
I'd like to thank both Psyrus and LITO for helping me, without you I wouldn't have been able to locate the problem. Thank you, guys :)
