Total noob in need of assistance

Let me start off by saying i'm sorry if I'm posting in the wrong section. New guys like me tend to screw such simple things up.

I guess I should just get to the point. Last night I downloaded battlefield 2 for the sole purpose of playing this mod. I bought the complete collection off amazon. I played it, everything worked fine and I proceeded to download PR. I made sure bf2 was updated to 1.5 as the install instructions stated and I installed it. PR then updated itself to 1.0.36 or something like that. Everything seemed to be working fine. I then got on multiplayer and looked at some some servers. Now here is the problem. I think you all know what is coming. I got a CD key not valid error. I restarted the game and tried again. Same problem. I went to the internet and it seems that is is a very common problem with this game. I read a couple threads on this forum and others on how to fix it. I've tried everything from the automatic fixes where you just type in your key and hit fix, to going into regedit and fixing it manually. Nothing is correcting the problem.

If anyone has any kind of advise I would be so grateful. I appreciate your time in helping this worthless noob get started. Thanks for your time.

Yea I can get on vanilla servers fine. It's only the PR ones that do this.

OPen PRLauncher.
Click Support
Click the Keys Tab.
Top line should be your CDKey. Check it against your purchased CDKey.
If it nothing in this line, enter in the CDKey you bought from Amazon. Click Apply.
Second line should tell you if it's valid or not.
If not valid, please tell us.

Thanks for the response. Well it appears everything is matching up fine compared to my amazon key. It still says no, it isn't valid under it.

When I installed the game I copied the key and pasted it in the boxes all at once. Could that potentially be screwing it up?

There's a few reasons why your CD key will show up as invalid in the launcher.

1. You typed it wrong, or you messing with other cd key changers and the registry has screwed something up. Try changing it in the launcher, making sure you have typed it correctly. Copy/paste should work fine, but you could also try typing it manually.

But please make sure you use the launcher to do this, as other instructions on the internet (and sometimes even here on these forums), such as using other cd key changers or modifying your registry is wrong information and/or out of date and may cause more issues.

The launcher uses the correct method for BF2 v1.5, and is fully supported and works properly with the game. For any interested party, the method is: dashes removed, uppercased, encrypted with DPAPI with no entropy and local machine scope, then prepended with "x9392".

2. You can't connect to master.gamespy.com to validate your key, however that would give you an error message of "Error validating CD Key..." instead of "No", so it's probably not that.

3. It's actually invalid, in which case, you will need to contact Amazon and try and get a new cd key as they have sold you an invalid one. This is probably unlikely as well as Amazon is a major retailer, but you never know...

I'm tempted to contact amazon and just try and get a new one. If that fails I'll reinstall, and if that fails...looks like I'll just play BF4 and hope the devs fix most of its problems. Shouldn't be too much longer and PR2 alpha will be out. Then I can enjoy this style of gameplay finally! :-)
