Which torrent client are you using? uTorrent, Vuze, qBittorent?
If you don't have a bittorrent client installed, I highly suggest qBittorrent, it is ad-free, crapware free, open source, and free to use.
http://www.qbittorrent.org/
which antivirus do you have?
which firewall do you have?
which router do you have?
I'll help you out, just let me know what we're working with.

OK, a bit of googling:
Culprit: Vista 's somewhat broken DEP protection scheme.
Solution: I don't know,
you could check to see if DEP is enabled in your BIOS and in Vista registry. Disable it.
first step in a workaround:
In PRLauncher->Options->Global->Check the 'Keep Updates' Box. Then Copy the 'Update download Location' directory. ->Click Apply
In Windows Explorer, paste the 'Update download Location' directory in the address bar.
Download the 1.0 to 1.1 patch, here is my copy:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/kl9axu9idgr47 ... ch.prpatch
save it to your 'Update Download Location' directory.
Right click it and select "Apply Patch.
Hopefully that works.
You might also need to start Windows in SafeMode, then go back to 'Update download Location' directory and try to run the patch again.

im extracting "prbf2_1.1.0.0_full" right now. the solution you want me to try is to go from 1.0 to 1.1. do i need to do that if im d.l. the 1.1 now?

The .iso is 1.1.0.0
The update brings you to 1.1.1.0
IF you get the iso extracted, and PR installs without a hitch, just try the automated update first.
If that fails, download from above.
PRLauncher retrieves the file from that URL, so doesn't really matter how you get it.

ive uninstalled and reinstalled 2 times when all i said and done i double click the shortcut, the updater pops up a couple of times like it WANTS to do something and then a window pops up saying the updater has stoppped working, check the internet for a solution or close program. i cant even get to the main window with the play-options are there to click on to do the whole options global thing that was mentioned.
i just dont understand how it could go from working fine one day to not working at all the next. i dont see how any BIOS setting would need to be altered to make it work. this computer is basically just used for PR.
oh well, its been fun.

To test,
go to c-program files-ea-bf2\PRBF2.exe
run PRBF2.exe
It should start, screen go black, then the PR intro movie will play, then a message pops up saying "Can not interact with PRLauncher".
Next, let's make sure that Windows Vista Firewall is not blocking PRLauncher.exe or PRUpdater.exe
Here is a tutorial to add aa program exception to the Windows firewall.
Do it for each PRLauncher and PRUpdater, and make sure to click OK to save the changes.

Let's try this:
1.
C:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Local\Project Reality\Project Reality BF2\ and open the Downloads folder.
Take a screenshot or Write down what's in the directory.
I believe there can only be two files, but not sure if there are any:
prbf2_1.1.0.0_to_1.1.1.0_client_patch.prpatch
prbf2_1.1.0.0_to_1.1.1.0_client_patch.prpatchold
Let me know if these are present.
delete everything in the directory.
2.
C:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Local\Project Reality\Project Reality BF2\ and open the UpdateLogs folder.
Open the highest numbered log file, copy and paste everything in this thread.

Wait. Could something have gone wrong with my computer itself to cause this problem?

It's a possibility.
You might not have enough info, or haven't given me enough info to really tell.
Ignore PR for the time being, and see if you can get vanilla BF2 updated to v1.5 and online multiplayer working.
So many possibilities I can't really give specific troubleshooting ideas.
Event Viewer is a tool that displays detailed information about significant events (for example, programs that don't start as expected or updates that are downloaded automatically) on your computer. Event Viewer can be helpful when troubleshooting problems and errors with Windows and other programs. For more information about Event Viewer, see What information appears in event logs (Event Viewer)?
•
Open Event Viewer by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Security, clicking Administrative Tools, and then double-clicking Event Viewer. Administrator permission required If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
Open Event Viewer - Microsoft Windows Help
You want to search for "battlefield" in the event viewer, see if you can find any specific error.
But it could be a bad HDD sector, an update to antivirus/firewall that reset exemption rules, a virus, idk.

Vanilla bf2 is working fine.
the right version of bf2 is 1.5.3153-802.0, right?

1. Try deleting the Documents\ProjectReality directory.
2. try repairing Microsoft .NET Framework 4 and Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.1 (either and or both, whatever you have)
