CPU Upgrade

Hello All,
First off, I don't know exactly where to place this thread, so i'll place it here
Currently i have an AMD Athlon II X4 640 3GHz CPU with 4GB of DDR3 1333MHz RAM.
PR runs fine, but the framerate deteriorates, where there ale a lot of buildings, especially when looking from above, helicopter or jet for example.
I am going to buy an i3-4330 Haswell processor.
The question is, will it improve performance in these sceneries?
Greetings.

This should probably be in the Tech Support section of the forums.

Don't forget that you'll need a new motherboard as well.

It will not stop your frame rate from dropping, but it *may* (not for sure) reduce the amount by which it drops.

Partially depends on whether your CPU or your GPU is the bottleneck. What video card do you have?

In PR, the CPU is almost always the bottleneck due to the engine's overzealous (and our unoptimized) draw-calls which, if they exceed 2000 per scene, will wreck havoc with pretty much every CPU.

Video card - Radeon 6770 1GB GDDR5 - it's quite good enough i think.
I'm curious what role does the CPU's amount of cache play.

Single Thread Performance
This chart comparing the single thread performance of CPU's is made using thousands of PerformanceTest benchmark results and is updated daily. This chart compares Desktop CPUs, from high end CPUs (such as Intel Core2, Intel Core2 Quad and AMD Phenom Quad-Core processors) to mid-range and lower end CPUs (such as Intel Pentium 4 and AMD Athlon processors) and also Server CPUs.

AMD Athlon II X4 640
1,026
--------------------
That's about an 100% increase in the PerformanceTest benchmark, so it's a decent upgrade indeed.
