Associating BF2.bat File With PR

Hello everyone! This is my first post, so please don't kill me.

I've recently become addicted to Project Reality. However, my computer trudges the thin line between **** and useable. So, I have recently been trying to bleed out all the performance possible. One such tutorial I found very helpful was located here: Ferocious Beaver Clan Tweaks

The tweak in question is the creation of a new .bat file so as to run BF2 in a high resource priority mode along with renaming the BF2.exe. The reasoning behind the latter is "Although the exact reason why this fix improves the gameplay is unknown, but it is probably that Ati and Nvidia recognize the program BF2.exe as one of their own, so by renaming the file, you turn the game into a normal program, not a resource hungry dinosaur!"

This is working great with BF2 so far, but just a minute ago I found that PR can no longer run as it cannot find the BF2 file it needs to run. As a result, I changed my BF2.exe file, which I changed to "BattlefieldTwo," back to its original name, or "BF2.Exe."

Is there I way I can associate the renamed BF2.exe file with PR so that I can run PR with the renamed file?

Side question: Are there any tweaks like those that I can do with PR so get the best possible performance? Can I do those exact tweaks with PR files to make the game run better?

Or do I have to reinstall Project Reality as the error message suggests I do?

Thank you!

download bitsum processlasso free.
it automates this.

you can NOT rename files, we have integrity checks that will kick you from online servers if files are altered.

'[R-COM wrote:LITOralis.nMd;1967967']General suggestions:

3. Download Bitsum ProcessLasso Free. Make sure you download the correct version, Free 32 bit or Free 64 bit, Process Lasso - Automate and optimize process priorities, CPU affinities, power profiles, and more!
-- Start PR, JOIN AN ONLINE SERVER, alt tab to desktop, open ProcessLAsso window, right click on PRBF2.exe, PRLauncher.exe, and PRMumble.exe and pnkbstra.exe and pnkbstrB.exe and give them default priority status of High, set the PRBF2.exe to gaming mode, and give them high or higher access to RAM.
Unpark your CPU Cores in ProcessLasso->Options->Configure CPU Core Parking->UNpark your cores.

ParkControl FREEWARE that enables easy adjustment of Windows core parking.
post your system specs, we can give other tips.

Damn, I did not expect responses within minutes. I like this forum.

I am now running Process Lasso as it seems to eliminate the need for the .bat file, but from that other forum post, the simple act of renaming the BF2.exe file should increase performance for reasons beyond my comprehension. I intend to respect PR integrity, but does that mean I can NOT rename my BF2.exe file?

My specs are as follows:

ACER Aspire 5553G
AMD Turion II P540 Dual-Core Processor 2.4 GHz
4 GB RAM
Windows 7 64 Bit
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470

I seem to be running PR within a useable 30-60 FPS, dropping down to about 18 depending on the lighting and such. This was gauged before Process Lasso and other BF2 file edits.

ALSO, do I dare run in "realtime" priority?

real time will cause crashes. Please don't do that.

you can google for ways to overclock your system.
It involves downloading a customized BIOS, installing the BIOS, then using "turion power control" or "k10stat" programs to overclock.
You need to do your homework on that.
It can do wonders, it can also cause heat issues.

Hmm. I will check that out but I was under the impression that AT I Mobility Radeon and any other piece of hardware on an acer laptop were very minimally un-overclockable.

If it is an consolation, bf2 runs at a very stable 90 fps.

Project Reality uses PRBF2.exe, BF2.exe is completely unused, and is only checked for existence for determining where BF2 is installed.

Yes, I realize that, so shouldn't I be able to rename the BF2.exe file and still be able to run PR? As at stands now, it will not launch if that file is anything other than "BF2.exe."

You can copy the BF2 file in the same directory, rename one, and leave the original in place.
For all BF2 gaming other than PR and FH, you can use your renamed .exe .
Leave the original BF2.exe there for the PR and FH launchers to find it.

You are a genius. Problem solved.

PLease read thoroughly before attempting to update to new BIOS.
The installation from DOS went smoothly with Phlash16 and I thought all was well. Out of curiosity (aka dumb ****), I turned on 2x LCLK and enabled PCIe 2 "auto mode" on all ports available, since my specs state that I have PCIe 2.

I decided to test what I did, and this is the result.

After this failed test, I set the modded BIOS back to default settings, and this still happened, and is still happening. I have also tried reflashing to standard BIOS 1.23, and back down to my stock BIOS of 1.18. I have also tried a system restore to 3 days ago, whcih also did not work. Reinstalling the AMD Chipset drivers for the display / GPU failed to fix this as well. I'm pretty sure what I reset for 30 seconds was the CMOS Battery, as it was the only battery I saw when I opened my laptop up, but this also did nothing.

Have I permanently damaged my computer? What can I do? Would reformatting and reinstalling Windows 7 work?

Umm,

Which BIOS is installed right now?

Do you have any other DX9 games installed, are they also affected?
I you have no other DX9 games installed, maybe download 3DMark05 or 3DMark06 for testing.
Futuremark - Legacy Benchmarks

Does the notebook work for other programs, browser, email, spreadsheet, etc ?

Did you delete the Shaders for BF2 and PR yet?

Start PRLauncher, go to Support->Utilities->Clear Shaders Cache,.. click the Perform Task Button.
For BF2, go to my Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache and delete the subdirectories with long strings as names.
then test BF2 and PR.

LOL, of course I cleared the shader caches for both. That did absolutely nothing.

Apparently all of my games are Dx9. Well, there is BF3, but I can only get playable framerate in a window some 800x600 px wide, so I don't play it.

Good call on the Dx9. After a while, I was getting 2 error messages: "Dx9 could not be found" and "kdbsync.exe stopped working."

Right now I have BIOS 1.18 installed, but changing BIOS did nothing as well.

As of this morning, my computer is now FIXED.

Apparently I didn't reinstall my AMD Chipset (display / gpu) drivers properly. Uninstalling the GPU drivers in device manager, then logging in to Safe Mode to delete all remnants with Treexy Driver Fusion and CCleaner then booting normally and reinstalling the drivers worked. IT WORKED! This was the strangest problem I have ever had.

Since this worked, I don't know if I should reinstall the modified BIOS again followed by reinstalling crucial drivers, or if I should just count my blessings and rest.

That's up to you, how much time you want to put into this.

At this point you've just about mastered the [prep, install, troubleshoot, revert,] cycle for this BIOS update, so I'll defer to your knowledge.

Remember to read up on using k10stat or turion power control before you attempt OC'ing your notebook. It's easier to read first, then follow a tutorial, than to Tim Allen your way through OC'ing an Acer notebook.

Well, I've been reading, and messing with K10Stat and TPC, and I think I already have a better grasp of all this. After that last scenario, I'm obviously not as adept at this as I thought, but I'm learning and that is what is important, right?.

In K10Stat, I can't seem raise the value for P-state 0's core frequency via the FID and DID options. For instance, P0 default is 2400x2400, CPU(V) 1.1125, with an FID of 8 and a DID or 0. Changing FID to 9 changes the frequency to 2500 on k10stat, but according to all my monitors, it drops down to ~1590 GHz in reality. Changing the value to 10, 11, 12, and so on, register 1590 GHz on the monitors despite saying 2600, 2700, or 2800. It is also the same with an FID value of 32 and a DID of 1, except an FID value of 33 drops the frequency down to ~800 GHz.

Changing the FID below 8 and 32 will also reduce the frequency but in the smaller increments that I assume are normal.

I would read the readme.txt, but it says, and I quote, "?‚?ƒ\ƒtƒgƒEƒFƒA‚?AŽg‚?•?‚?Œ?‚?‚?CPU/ƒ?ƒ‚ƒŠ/ƒ}ƒU?[ƒ{?[ƒh." I know, right? Harsh language.

I think the modified BIOS may allow me to raise these values, as its purpose was to "unlock" these OCing features. Now that I know what to do with THAT, I think I may try it once more. The guy also has a modified BIOS for the lesser BIOS 1.18 for my machine (was testing 1.23) so I may try that as well.

Can you flash your BIOS too much? I hope I never find out.

I mean its not like I just CAN'T overclock, right? I mean, I realize that this may all be in vain and that changing some value just a tiny bit may send my CPU to the first and warmest circle of Hell, but I should in theory be able to modify these values, however detrimental to my computer's health, right? Gandalf isn't in there screaming "YOU SHALL NOT PASS," right?

And thank you for you help thus far. These programs seem to be the most compatible with my machine. Even though they are not working properly yet, and least they are bearing results. RivaTuner, MSI AfterBurner, CPUClock Tool, AMD Overdrive, etc did not work at all and I couldn't change any value, mostly because most of them had no drivers or something associated with my hardware.

You are on the right track. K10Stat and TPC are your only options, as you've found out. Remember that your CPU has a thermal throttling feature, it's nearly impossible to damage the CPU or mobo, the CPU will throttle and/or shutdown once it reads too hot.

(So the only possible problem is if your CPU has a bad temp 'thermometer' on the silicon die, which if it does, whatever, it would eventually burn up anyway)

I am not real familiar with TPC, ... k10stat I know pretty well, and you're pretty much grasping the whole concept. Simply google for some k10stat tutorials, also search youtube too. You only have 8 variables, AT most to change in k10stat, and possibly 3 options in the BIOS, and for your notebook I'd advice not to increase the voltage until you find a stable OC at stock voltage, then run stability stress tests, to check temps. If temps are reasonable, then you can increase voltage and increase the OC... very slowly. remember to stress test for stability and temps, repeatedly.

I cannot raise the P-state CPU voltage above 1.1125V, however, I can change the North Bridge Voltage, but that is the same voltage (.9875V) for every state. I can change the CPU voltage in the "debug" tab but that has no effect.

All of this makes me think even more that trying the modded BIOS once more would unlock these features. There was a voltage control in that BIOS and I was able to set it higher than 1.1125, but I only did that for maybe 5 minutes before going back to defaults, as I couldn't identify anything at the time that would change the CPU frequency.
