Good computer, low FPS.

I am having low FPS in PR now since 1.0 and I don't think I had these problems before, the main issue is that some parts of the map drop my FPS like crazy .. I will post my specs.

OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 3.3 GHz
GPU: Nvidia Geforce GTX650
RAM: 8GB

With these specs, I cannot run the game on any decent settings with decent FPS. Even when all is on low, I drop. And it makes combat frustrating and sometimes, unplayable.

My settings ingame are

Resolution: 1920 x 1080 (native, will not lower because everything is then pixelated)
Anti-Aliasing: 2x (disabling does not help)
Terrain Quality: Low
Effects Quality: Medium
Geometry Quality: Low
Texture Quality: High
Lighting Quality: High (I will try low)
Dynamic Shadows: Low
Dynamic Light: Low
Texture Filtering: High

Those are my settings, I have tried to pretty much disable/lower everything. The game looked like garbage and still ran badly.

I've tried giving more CPU priority, I've tried shutting off all background processes that took any memory. Nothing works.

As soon as I look towards the city/fight. 20 fps or less, even on Saaremaa that doesn't have many interiors but just trees.

I can play new games better at high/medium and have no issues with FPS. But this really does it for me.

You're running PR on your integrated CPU graphics.

You have to run games on your GPU.

Possible fixes;
1. Try to reinstall drivers for your GPU
2. Add PR.exe to Nvidia Control Panel

I has probably to do with the fact that version 1.0 has a ''standalone'' launcher that your GPU-drivers don't recognize..

Interesting, I'll add it to my Nvidia Control Panel and test when possible and see if it works. Thanks

Edit: I do not think it helped, my fps still drops when looking towards the battle/cities etc

not sure what the problem is

how full is your hard drive?

also you might have viruses and malware on you PC that slow it down

Tbh, I also have "low fps", relative to my GPU
ArmA3, BF3 & 4 don't go below 30, hell no, it rarely drops to 35 on all high/ultra, PR sometimes drops to 25 for a couple of seconds (like in Fallujah when there's a huge battle in the city).. But it's not always :/

87,7 GB remaining out of 560GB on my HDD.

I have no malware, nothing. I've kept this PC clean and upgrade every couple of years.

I don't know what is causing it .. It seems to be common honestly, there are so many interiors and buildings in PR. The engine doesn't seem to handle it. Just like Careless also said. I drop to about 25 or 20 sometimes whereas in games with infinitely better graphics I don't even go below 30. Or above.

I've no clue what causes it .. Every time I play I do ask my squad mates if they share my problem and they say it's "common" so..

That is quite low for storage space .. Try defragmentation ? Set it as priority in task manager..
Are you by chance running traps ?

The BF2 game engine, the Refractor engine, is a single threaded process.
The limiting factor for Veniathan, Careless and many others is the single threaded performance of their CPU.

There are various ways to maximize the priority of the PRBF2.exe process in accessing the single core of the CPU that it uses.

Bitsum ProcessLasso Free is the best option.
3. Download Bitsum ProcessLasso Free. Make sure you download the correct version, Free 32 bit or Free 64 bit, Process Lasso - Automate and optimize process priorities, CPU affinities, power profiles, and more!
-- Start PR, alt tab to desktop, open ProcessLAsso window, right click on PRBF2.exe, PRLauncher.exe, PRMumble.exe and pnkbstra.exe and pnkbstrB.exe and give them default priority status of High, set the PRBF2.exe and PRLauncher.exe, to "gaming mode", and give them high or higher access to RAM.
Then on the hardware side, overclocking Veniathan's CPU might be possible, the speed of those Phenom II X4 is the determining factor in the FPS of PR. If you give us the exact model of CPU, and make and model of your motherboard, we might be able to offer info on where to look for OC'ing tutorials for your particular hardware.

My CPU is already OC'd. From 3.0 to 3.3. It's not a lot, and I won't go further I think. Maybe if I had water cooling. I have given it HIGH CPU priority and it's still pretty ehhh ..

ElshanF it is not really low .. It's alright, nearly 100gb. I do not think it matters a lot surely? It is already defragged. I guess I could uninstall some games but I doubt it will help

Perhaps I will simply have to deal with playing on lower FPS I guess. This only appeared in the 1.0 version

The problem is your CPU. BF2/PR (by today's standards) is not a graphically demanding game. I've read somewhere (can't find the thread atm) that putting antialiasing to 8x can help with FPS. So try increasing your settings. You should be able to max out your settings. The only settings I would look try decreasing is view distance.
If you want to keep playing around with settings, look up disabling core parking on google. Is your Quad Core (or more) CPU being throttled in any way? - Guru3D.com Forums This thread also mentions your CPU and some bug so it may be worth looking into.. You might not gain anything though.

Also, fps drops in certain maps are common and everyone experiences them. I wouldn't expect miracles because your CPU is still kind of old.

I have the same processor brand. Mine is the Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition with 3.4ghz.
Its just a bad CPU for PR now. In the days before v1.0 you could run it fine with good fps with high settings, but after v1.0 - its time to upgrade.

The Unparking did nothing for me, maybe 5fps increase. I will be trying the 8x AA and give an update on it as well as defragmentation on HDD since its been 6 months since last defrag.

Veniathan, you may try to consider a new CPU. The Phenom II X4 CPUs are 4 to 5 years old and are going to be outdated in the near future. I will be getting a new one by the end of this year.

SPECS:
Windows 7 64-bit
Phenom II X4 965 BE 3.4ghz (will upgrade, I'm thinking Intel this time)
XFX Radeon 270x 2GB DDr5
4GB RAM (will upgrade to 8GB)
500w PSU (will upgrade to 650w)
500GB free in a 1TB HDD
-Had my PC for four years, with her first upgrade last month. That would be my GPU - from GTX 460 to the R9 270x

EDIT: 8x AA did nothing to fps, no up and no drop. With that, the luxury of no chopped up lines on every object in the game. 2nd edit will be on how well the defrag will work.

I will buy AMD FX-6300 6C 3.5GHz Black Edition (Six Cores 3.5Ghz)

I will also need to buy a new motherboard for that though. Gonna be costy but it's time to upgrade. I just thought this game would work better.

I can play everything else (over 200 games) fine. But cannot PR

Save up some money and wait for the big internet sales (ex newegg.com has an Easter sale at the end of April)

If I see it cheap sure, I guess it's time to upgrade. But still, it ran just fine even in 0.9. Oh well
