Windows 8.1 PR fails to launch after intros

Hi All,

Well i bought a new system, and i'm still encountering the issues i had on my laptop in that after i launch PR and the intro has finished, the application closes with no errors and just indicates that it is cleaning resources.

I have tried all of the suggestions here:
https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f27-pr ... steps.html

i've turned off the firewall, antivirus, installed BF2, reboot, patch 1.4, reboot, patch 1.5, reboot, ran BF2(no issue), installed PR, restart, updated PR, restart, attempt to play, crash

messed around with the compatibility, and still it fails.

any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Are you running any type of overlay program? MSI Afterburner, Overwolf, TS3 overlay, RAPTR, etc. All can cause this type of problem.

Have you tried changing the resolution from inside PRLauncher?
Have you tried running in windowed mode from inside PR launcher?

Have you tried changing the Windows Default Playback and Default Recording devices to something other than your fancy headset and mic?
Primary Playback: Speakers (4- Logitech G930 Head
Primary Recording: Microphone Array (ASUS Virtual
I think That line of G series headsets usually require some extra steps to get running with PR?

Provider Valid: True
Audio Quality: High
EAX: True
Alternatively, try setting this to Quality Low, and EAX off.

disabling the logitech sound manager generally fixed such issues

This was historically an issue with G35 headsets, something with the USB based dolby emulation. For the logitech headsets, disabling the logitech sound manager generally fixed such issues, and perhaps it will be the solution in your case too.

Essentially the issue lies in the fact that it's not 'true' 7.1, and heavily software based, and that software based positional emulation interferes with mumbles' sound output.

Jameston, were you using the same headset before you got the microphone?

Holy shit, removing my fancy headset worked.

After i got everything setup, i hooked up my fancy headset again, and it still launches. I would never have suspected my headset to cause me so much grief with getting pr to launch.

Thanks so much for your help.
