Hello. First, I would like to thank PR for constant updates and providing these contents for free for nearly a decade now. I been enjoying this mod since 0.6.
I have a feedback and a question regarding gun sounds.
Feedback:
I feel that 'Bang' is being removed from the gun sounds.
I can not name them all but below are examples of gun sounds that I felt realistic at 1.0 release.
M1911
M16
AK47 indoor
G3 indoor
Now how I see it is, by each update the 'bang' based gun sounds are being replaced by more mechanical and elaborated sounds.
For example M1911 sound went from 1.0 bang to more echo or pew like sound used now.
AK47 indoor sound which were bang based was replaced by new mechanical outdoor sound with modification(?).
G3 indoor sound which were bang based is now removed and 1.1 non bang based outdoor sound is used in its place now. With more mechanical and non bang based sound used for newest outdoor sound.
And M16 were changed to pre 1.0 sound.
I also noticed new change for Russian/MEC/INS 13mm HMG sounds are more muffed. I really liked the crisp bang used in that gun.
The remaining gun that I feel as realistic are Mosin nagant and 9mm based handguns. Which is unchanged since the 1.0 release.
I think gun sounds are more realistic if it is mostly bang based and not echo or mechanical based.
Question:
What are the reasons behind these changes?
Thank you for reading, and looking forward to a reply.

G3 and M16/M4 sounds are much worse then previous iterations. "If something isn't broke why fix it?"

If it's more realistic, I like them. Today's generation is used to a more Hollywood like effects of sound.
For example, most people like Apple headphones. The reality is that compared to high end audio equipment, they sound like ****.
And even if you get quality equipment that is affordable, it sounds like **** because your ears are used to the static punchy Apple headphones.

Couldn't agree more but the whole sad thing about this is that people actually like to be ignorant. It's not only apple and their...devices but the same goes for the Beats headphones.
The Beats retail for close to $300 quid yet AKG K150, available for mere $150 would kindly show them door day and night. Heck, even sennheiser HD449 at some $90 quid would put them to shame.
But not only doesn't it end at that, I've seen people spending serious money on headphones like the Beats but they completely neglect the most important detail of it all - the source. They feed the headphones with very lossy bitrate Mp3, which in return makes the whole thing sound even worse!!
( Because any half decent headphones will reveal the raw, fundamental imperfections in the recording, the source itself )
Whoops, now OT
I definitely prefer the new G3 sounds. Not sure about the M16 (?) yet. Either way I'm pleased with the audio quality in the whole game so far.
( I wish PR devs were the ones doing audio for Arma 3 as well, replacing the utterly, incredibly pathetic sounds of theirs )

PKM in first person sounds very soft and muffled. Using Realtek onboard, sound settings on software and medium.

A3 sounds are 10x better then PR at present. I understand it's hard to capture the right qualities in a gun shot sound, but I seriously wonder how many players have ever actually heard a weapon going off, this includes the people in charge of sounds on the dev team (ear wax build up is fairly common for people who spend a lot of time at ranges w.o ear protection, so I can see that as a good excuse).

My only complaint right now is that first person G3 sounds like a different gun from the third person sound.
Before you tell me I'm wrong, go in Muttrah City with a friend and each of you fire a G3. They're completely different sounds.

The "clink" noise after the G3 gunshot is a bit unrealistic in my opinion and m16's fire sound is a bit too muffled.
But overall you guys have done a great job.

Overall, I love the sounds effects in PR, especially the distant gunshot sounds but I also feel that the AK-47 and G3 lack the deafening crack that makes you feel like you're shooting a powerful gun (not that I want the actual sounds to be deafening if you know what I mean). Do these guns really sound this muffled in real life?

The Arma 3 gun sounds are bit cleaner and have little more attack but I wouldn't say they are 10X times better. The PR gun shots are slightly muffled and could use bit more attack to be perfect but it's nothing major. For instance I'm really liking the AR gun shots in PR but again, as said little lauder with more attack would make them perfect.
Apart of gun sounds the A3 sounds are still exceptionally pathetic.

If current weapon sounds are more realistic then I prefer to have these. Reality is reality. I really like the new apc shooting sound. It's much more realistic.

Yes! "Cleaner" and "more attack" ("crack" rather than a muffled "thump") is what I wanted to suggest, especially for the AK rifles because they sound a little crackly and muffled and for the G3. And I agree that the AR sounds are great, especially the SAW, which definitely has enough "attack" now.

The G3 sounds like FOPTHOPTHOP*CLINK* (a bit too exaggerated) IMHO, I think the original v0.9 sounds were just fine (reload animation also looks good the Norwegian forces AG3?). Is the AR-15 platform using the old sound or is it just me? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KxgcE7W ... detailpage

I like the G3 sounds, it sounds almost exactly as it sounds on youtube videos. I know room size and landscape means a lot on gun sounds, but the MG3 sound just BLOWS!

I've never fired anything more powerful than a BB, so I don't have anything to say on the matter.
I would however like to say that the current G3 sounds like a mean motherfucker, and I love it.

I was complaining about the AK sounds being "crackly" but I think that may have been because of my crappy headphones. I know this is a little off topic, but how much should I spend on headphones to fully enjoy PR's sound effects? Any recommendations?

I like the newest iteration of M16 series sounds much more than the previous set, as those felt rather plinky. The new G3 sound is a bit odd, as that clearly audible ringing sound (bolt arresting?) is far too distinct to be heard alongside a 7.62x51 cartridge. The reload sounds overall are truly excellent Anders, insanely superior to any AAA title out there. I'm not sure if it has changed since 1.0, but I especially enjoy the M2HB sounds.
