G3 is a good pick compared to the AK101 (even Russia isnt using these) but a more realistic choice would be the standard AK-47. Just my two cents.

depends on your definition of realism - we've argued for days about this topic
some will say that the G3 is a realistic option but personally in my opinion the most realistic option for the MEC is the Ak100 series (Ak107) as they are an ultra hi-tech Russian armed opfor. The G3 would be realistic if an existing army was the model but instead we have a hypothetical military with the best Russian technology hence the AK107.

i would really like to see the g3 changed not only because i hate the thing to death, but yeah i also dont see it being the most commonly used by a middle eastern military

It's really not that bad.
One day I snuck up on the dock crane at Muutrah and got 15 kills, semi long range with the G3 until the super lil bird chopped me up.

I totally agree to that! The G3's iron sight is too big (blocks view) and clumsy for mid- and long-range engagements: it's a lot of iron, and very little sight!

If it were based on the existing weapons in the middle east the MEC would be equipped with a plethora of AKMs, M16A1s, G3s, FALs, KH2002s, etc. However, This is a hypothetical future force, which has chosen to standardise on the G3.
Now, The AK-47/AKM is not a good choice, as while it is very reliable, it is heavy and fairly innacurate. One of the newer AK-10X series could work, but as $kele says, it should be the AK-107 (or possibly the AK-103 if you really want a 7.62x39, or an AEK-971, for both the large calibre round and balance automatics, or even the AN-94, possibly).
However, the G3 is still not the best weapon they could be using by a long way either. Its heavy and unsuited to full automatic fire. It would make sense to say it was chosen due to the wide open spaces of the ME, but most MEC maps for PRM seem to be urban, so it dosent make that much sense.
On the other hand, the G3 provides a basis for virtually all the small arms a force in PRM needs, the G3A3/A4 for general issue, the HK21 for support, the G3SG/1 for Designated marksmen and the G3KA4 (Carbine) or MC-51 (Ultra short carbine/SMG) for spec ops (or other troops using carbines). This is something none of the Russian weapons listed above can do.
Now, what we need is a modern, intermediate cartrage rifle that can provide for all those roles, and I put it to you that the HK33 sereis may be the ideal solution. It features the general issue rifle (HK33A2/A3/A4/A5), the DMR (HK33SG/1), the SAW (HK23/HK23E), the carbine (HK33K) and ultra short carbine (HK53).
However, I can see why the DEVs put the G3 as it makes the MEC very different to play with thier accurate, high powered rifles.
PS: Oh yeah, I Love the G3's diopter sights, so much better than the other Irons

Just wasted a whole squad from gas station as they ran past the billboard on Muutrah w/ G3.
It's really not that bad.

No ME countries use the AK101, but they use the G3? So what? According to your (everyones) logic, they should be using Challenger 2 tanks instead of T90's, becuase yes, you heard it. No ME countries use the T90, but Oman and Saudi Arabia uses the C2.

The British FV4034 Challenger 2 is the main battle tank currently in service with the armies of the United Kingdom, Oman and Saudi Arabia.

Ive grown on the G3 and like it now it would look far better and fit in more if it had black furniture and maybe a Raflex sight.
Are we ever going to get a G3 Gl (Grenade launcher) combo? or we sticking with the crappy AK101.
If it was up to me id arm the MEC with the AN94

is there any room for the G3 varients like G36C or the MG36 or just G36 at all.

The G3TGSZF (G3 with HK79 & scope) is on the way from what I've heard.

Two entirely different weapons systems.
G3
G36

The G3 is an old weapon. It's probably dating back to Vietnam war. Now, why would a future force use weapons that date back to Vietnam? Makes no sense. Ak-47, Ak-101, RPK, and AK74SU should be brought back to life in the MEC world. The Chinese seriously need an update on weapons.

Is it me or did you just contradict yourself? Both those weapons were in Vietnam I believe? I agree though the G3 I hate it, if anything it's the sound that does it, it just sounds total pox, not a bad weapon exactly, it's just not nice to use... Long range is pretty hard with those sights to be honest though...

I don't care. As long as it's a weapon and it can kill the enemy, it's a good weapon.

The G3 is a nice weapon just takes some getting used too. As to the realism I would think even with the money they have they would choose to standardize on a readily available weapon with common ammo.

The MEC are not based off of Russia as someone already said. Just because they use some of their weapons does not mean they are based off of Russia. Russia doesn't even use the AK107.
And just because DICE put something in game or whatever, does not mean that is actually how it is or how it is in PR or the fictional BF2 battlefield. Why does the USMC use the seahawk(blackhawk) when they don't use it or have a knife that is not even theirs or all infantrymen have M9s even though that isn't true in the military? Because they made the game for fun with a mix of realism, so you cannot say they are one way.
All we know about the MEC are that they are just that. Middle Eastern and have a mix of weapons from countries. If you used your logic, then the MEC Special Forces should be using the AK107 from Russia because they are just that; special forces, but that wasn't true in the actual game.
And the Middle East isn't exactly known for its production or wide scale use of the 5.45mm ammo(especially this ammo for the 107) or 5.56 for the 108 either.
5.45 is probably the most unrealistic ammo they would use in wide scale.

Funny topic this, I made an exact same post in the feedback forum just about some matters as these yet it just got tossed away it seems. Theoretically if they were from the middle east they would have a fair bit of money to go spend. So I highly doubt if they were getting G3's that they wouldn't just go for the new alternative of the G36 class of rifle, it has all their mod cons which they need. But I suppose they don't want to appear to be copying POE. Ashame that, its really letting down the mod. As for the PLA weapons, I also commented that their current SF weapon (QBZ5) was their main assault rifle also which should have been rolled out to the majority of their armed forces by now, since they had already actively started replacing them in 1997. There is also a newer QBZ97 which is also in active production and being handed out also. Its like a full lack of neglect for non English speaking teams.

The QBZ-95 currently in game is the carbine version, rather than the full sized rifle, so issuing it to all troops would also be unrealistic. The QBZ-95 has been in service since 1995 (hense the designation), but was only seen publicly by the west in 1997, whith the take over of Hong Kong. The QBZ-97 is exclusivly an export version of the QBZ-95 which fires the 5.56x45mm round (which is not used by the PLA) rather than the 5.8x42mm.
In addition, the QBZ-95 is being supplimented with the QBZ-03, a rifle of conventional design as some PLA units have expressed dissatisfaction with the QBZ-95.
However, it has been confirmed that the Chinese will be getting the QZB-95, and hopefully that will be sooner rahter than later (IIRC, its supposed to be after 1.0 when the British are fully implimented).
As for the MEC they should be standardised on the 5.56x45mm, 7.62x51mm or 7.62x39mm. Personally, I think it should be the HK33, which is produced and used in the region, uses more or less the same controls and muscle memory as the G3, which is used across the region and is more suitable for a modern fighting force.

Iran already use the G3 for example
Quote: "Khaybar KH 2002 assault rifle is a recent development of the Iranian Defense Industry Organization; this rifle was first shown in 2004 and is intended to replace the obsolete 7.62x51 HK G3 rifles of German origin, which are license-built in Iran since the Shah times."
From this link.

Hence the G3 is a good pick for the MEC and insurgents, as there has been pictured on the net and the news captured insurgent weapons featuring among them a G3 variant.
second from the left is a G3A4
