I have found that if your password has a "-" in it it won't let you create the profile, saying password is incorrect or something along those lines, but it will still take the username. So if you try another password it will say your name has been taken.

its hard to show, password is all covered up, best way is to just test yourself with some random username and put a password with a dash in it, when it says password is unusable change the password to something without and see that the username has been taken.

Numbers in the password worked fine for me though.

The master server was just updated with the fix. It was not an issue to do with dashes or numbers. Probably only a tiny handful of the thousands of already made accounts might have the issue. It's highly unlikely, but if this exact issue happened for you (creating an account and it saying password incorrect), the account has been made. However, your password is short 1 character. So if for example you used the password of "abcd", try logging in with "abc".
But anyway, issue has been fixed for new accounts created from this moment on.

that works (I mean shortened password), and how it is possible to change the password now?

Another somewhat related issue I noticed yesterday:
It's currently possible to create rather weird nicks, one example being "..." - I think a minimum number of alphanumeric characters would be a reasonable requirement.

Why is this an issue and why someone can't have a weird nick if he wants to?

Try reporting a teamkiller called "........" without accidentally complaining about "......." or "........." instead.
The GameSpy servers obviously had a nickname policy, at least I've never noticed similarly strange nicks in the past.

They didn't have a nickname policy. The strange nicknames were there too. You can do the same on steam and most other online platforms that I know off. Nickname policies don't really exist from what I have seen

Except for a few games where a few discriminating words are not allowed. Wouldn't be nice to take away a players ability to be named what he'd liked to be called.

It's very unlikely that there will be 2+ 'dots'-guys at the same time unless they do it intentionally (kick all of them in that case) and they can achieve the same result with something like "il!li!li!il" or "iljfjtijljfijltjfljijftjlijflit". There is always a way to abuse something.
alphanumeric
btw, did you just suggested to force everyone to have numbers in the name?

Not exactly, I suggested a minimum number of alphanumeric characters, i.e. at least X characters of a nickname have to be either letters or digits.
I would never suggest limitations that would affect my own nickname.

Hm, your resolution should be more than high enough to see the entire account creation dialog properly.
The dialog contains the following fields:
- Account Name
- Email Address
- Country
- Password
- Confirm Password
So the password has to be entered twice, and if those two fields don't match, the "Create" button is disabled.
