Is a valid CD-Key needed anymore?

Following Gamespy's shutdown and PR's update, will a pirate copy of BF2 work now?

It doesn't have to be a legit CD Key, it just has to be a unique CD Key. If someone else happens to be using the same CD Key as you, and they got banned off your favourite server, so do you.

Additionally, once you launch PR v1.2 for the first time, your current CD Key is permanently locked to your machine, you cannot change it, ever.

So long story short, I'd be pretty hesitant downloading a pirated copy of BF2 and using some dodgy CD Key you found in the readme.txt... Best go legit and save yourself from any drama that might occur.

Apart from the fact that come on, BF2 costs like $5. The time you took to register and ask this question, you could have earned that helping your old neighbor carry home her groceries.

So, once i launched PR 1.2 for the first Time, it doesnt matter which CD Key i enter on a re-install, because the first CD Key is locked on the Computer. Hmm, could you tell us the Reason behind this "Feature"? What about installing a new Windows, or get a new CPU/GPU/Soundcard/Motherboard...whatever?

Yes.

It's like so because otherwise people could change their CD Keys at will, as there is no more CD Key verification to ensure legitimate CD Keys. If you could change your CD Key at will, it would mean that anyone could get around any form of ban, and griefing and general idiocy on servers would increase, being detrimental to the overall PR gameplay and reputation. Naturally, this is something that us PR developers do not want to happen to our game.

Sure, it's not a great solution, it was a hastily done one with many issues, and it might change in the future. But for the overwhelming majority of players, this is a complete non-issue. So it's staying for now.

If you find yourself stung by this, say you are using an illegitimate version of BF2 or whatever, well unlucky. You could always format and reinstall Windows, that's always fun to do, a new computer might help as well... But generally, if you find yourself in this situation, you most likely have done something "wrong", either by piracy or trying to beat the system in one way or another, and you'll have to try and deal with it on your own, we're not going to help.

Of course, legitimate users might also run into this issue, in which case you're also out of luck, can't really help you there. But then again I fail to see why any legitimate user would need to change their CD Key...

Id just add that you will have to make streaming towards GGC/PBBANS for server admins necessary in order to keep cheaters as far its possible.

Cause some might go with the line - Wth I cant lose anything so Ill cheat, and might get out with it - and its probably how its going to be.

Here is my situation:

- I heard BF2 was completly dead, so, before i buy it to play PR and Forgotten Hope, i tested the Nosteam version since i read both mods would work on cracked versions.

- I tried PR and it worked fine yesterday.

- Today, i got the invalid CD key error...ok, fair enough, the mod is great and totally worth the 10usd BF2 price at steam.

- Bought it.

- Now i cant play it...

Just saying you are keeping away hardcore players with this feature, no one will cheat that bad on a 10y old game anymore...thats for COD kids and this game is very far away from that public.

This is fucking retarded... I just switched the key in the key changer in the support folder because I install using Steam and then I have a list of keys I can change them to so I don't have to use the CDs. If someone wants to avoid a server ban, they can still re install PR so what is the point?! RETARDEDDDD!!! FUCK YOU!!!! CHANGE IT BACK NOW!!! I want to smash something, just got done reinstalling windows, running memory diagnostics, reinstall PSUs, windows updates, drivers, NOW I GOTTA DO THIS?!!! FUCCCCCK YOOOOU

FIX IT NOW. WAY TO FUCK ME

needs to be a solution a.s.a.p... I'm sure maybe changing the registry the old fashion way before bf 1.5 gave us the key changer... thanks... for taking us back 10 years guys... definitely the way to keep a game this old alive, make it harder to play, I'm not sure if there's council of elders, or if someone just had to much to drink but this is a horrible decision. battlefield 2 was just put on sale for $5 on sale meaning if you don't want to re-insert 3 discs every time, it makes installing the game very modern for cheap, everyone should have done it. Now with this ... it's all gone to hell... because of what? some hackers? or smack tards they are having wet dreams over this right now, because they made it inconvenient as fuck for the rest of us.

If I want to play on this machine it means digging out CDs I'm pretty sure I just threw away or put into storage, so yeah I'm up shit creek and no I won't quit bitching, I need my fix.

This might slide a bit offtopic but to the people interested in using pirated CD keys a chunk are already banned from a decent amount of the popular servers due to the fact that they are used & shared with hackers and griefers.

I was tempted to give you an infraction for disrespecting the Dev team, however why would I want to deny them your tears of rage - it's clearly what they live for. This whole situation of having the master servers shut down by Game Spy, the fact EA decided not to continue support, and the solution put in place so 99% of people could still play PR and FH2 was an elaborate scheme just to fuck you over. Nobody else.

Please don't disappoint.

TBH i actually did the same thing as you. (Even used the Nosteam version.) I can still play in servers but not 100% of the time. As far as reinstalling Win7 and buying a legitimate copy of the game goes, i might as well wait until i buy a new computer, not a crappy laptop like i have atm lol.

Still though, it's too bad that some people can't play it but if it's the only option well, it's the only option.

Noddy why are you equating the new master server to this new no-key-change policy? It's two separate issues.

If you guys really aren't going to fix this, that means I'm done playing... so there you go PR community, one vet gone, so how many new comers do you think your gonna lose or simply never gonna get? Not many but this chip on your shoulder is getting a little heavy guys ( NO ONE WANTS TO HACK YOUR 10 YEAR OLD GAME).

I have 3 friends who I'm in the middle of helping build new computers who were all FINALLY after YEARS AND YEARS ready to play and now your going to make me look like a fool? Not only that, you guys look like fools. Infraction me for disrespect... ban me for all I care, I can make another account, turn off my router for a little bit, and come right back at ya, the same way someone trying to avoid a server ban can and will do. I've never been bothered by hackers or smack tards in all my years of playing battlefield (besides the occasional wall glitcher). To me you guys are disrupting gameplay and being bigger hacks than any hacker smack tard could ever hope to. If rage isn't something you guys except in the feedback department then maybe I suggest you let me run the rage test department and give you feedback on when PR makes someone want to sell all their computers until PR2 comes out.

I'm not throwing a fit, this is typing, where if you can imagine, I'm perfectly calm, but my fingers are raging out, so while you may imagine somehow jamming a remote up their butt, in reality I'm very calm, calm as a bomb in fact.

I was ready to donate and help dev the PRSPY app into something that actually works too but I guess that's not happening.

There's no way in hell I'm ever putting those CDs in my computer again so cya guys. Hope its worth it.

Even if you had CD bro, you have to insert everyone, 1 at a time, download 2 updates from 2 obscure pages, assuming your a player that knows to look for 1.5 update. Time is too valuable to me these days to do all that. I reinstall PR all the time as a benchmark and this just royally stuffs me.

What about this? Could some of us have access to a cd changing tool for system builders as long as we promise not to distribute it or miss use it? Really even that is a horrible idea because your making it harder for people to get into the game but hey I guess we have a huge problem with smacktards I don't know about. I guess you stopped all the server crashing from attacks or whatever, right? Cause that's the only problem I have and that hasn't been addressed for years now or sound bugs... but sure make this priority.

OR OR OO OOO ... ALLOW ONE (1) KEY CHANGE PER MACHINE... OR 1 EVERY 72 HOURS or something.

I was just trying to give some good advice. these days with technology, you can either save the patches to a flash or yes, a disc.

if you need them, patches, I'd be willing to put them in a rar and use a reliable source where you could d/l them. as I said, a flash drive these days is a great tool to have. I have the PR iso as well as the patches stored on one. I do a reformat twice a year, just to have a clean OS. wasn't trying to give you a hard time, it's just you seem near over the edge about it and as old dude, I have learned that there is always a solution..In most cases
