Just wanted to see how many like the current US & Canadian speech over the previous version? To be honest I found the previous version bit more engaging as it felt closer to being in a combat zone. What's your take on this?

I did the voices and even I think that quite a bit of it is pretty cheesy and generally just shitty sounding. Hopefully I can re-record some of it in the next few weeks and make it sound a bit more believable and realistic. Is it my voice all together that bothers you, or just the execution?

It lacks "soul" on some lines, not all of them.

The old ones were funny and the acting was generally good, the problem was the voice itself.

Hello mate, I meant no offence and hope none was taken.

Its just compare to the previous version the voices sounded more ''military forged'' and little more professional & serious perhaps. Your voice is just fine :) and I think the realism aspect is what I personally find slightly lacking in this version.

I appreciate the initiative nonetheless and it would be a great achievement to get something quite as difficult as voice acting right , right away so to speak :)

No offence taken at all. I completely agree with you and I'm actually surprised anyone didn't complain sooner. I did probably around 30-40 takes of the most important stuff on the comma rose to make it sound believable, but because of the timing of the update I didn't really have enough time to perfect all of the acting in all 80 of the commands. If you'd like to give a bit more input please PM me (this goes for anyone) with what you think needs improvement and I will look at revising individual pieces of dialogue to fit better with the mod.

I think they're a bit inconsistent. Not just the grunt voices, but also SL and Commander. The SL are mostly vBF2 if I'm not mistaken, they sound quite good, but unoriginal. The Commander voice is my personal favourite, but the sound for "Follow me" is "Follow me Devildogs", which doesn't apply to the Army, or the Canadians which use the same sounds. Also, I find the different lines of the grunt voices sound rather inconsitent, and different from each other, almost as if more than one person with a very similar voices are recording each one of them individually. Also, the word "Medic" should be avoided, since Marines will say "Corpsman", instead you should use "Doc", which is more widely used.

The ideal would be for the USMC, the US Army and the Canadians to have different sound files. But I guess that's just taking space.

I like them, I think it really is one of the best VO in PR, other then the NVA faction VO.

But I think the Roger VO for US should be like the vine: "Kid on Crack", the way he says Yaaa
Kid on Crack-Youtube

Whoa I feel so naive now ( and ****-ish ) seeing that it takes far more effort than I'd have actually imagined, 40 to 80 tries sounds like a nightmare and I don't envy it.

Really, the only thing that I found better in the previous version was that it sounded little more engaged whereas this one feels more casual in a sense that it doesn't give the image that I am at war if you know what I mean? Other than that its fine mate

Actually the Commanders voice is rather funny, not bad but somewhat funny. His voice sounds like hes at the bring of some stress breakdown and some lines like the ''I need ammo here'' is just bad IMO

When commander asks for ammo he sound more like a seriously heavy smoker and drinker rather than someone with voice of a leader

On the other hand I just love when playing a medic with his line - Don't you die on me'' :)

Its awesome

I think that it's something most of us think of ourselves. It has something to do with being nervous about your voice's reception by the community. Don't listen to them, just listen to what Anders wants you to do. He's the audio director and he knows what sounds he's looking for. If he wants you to do a particular thing, he'll let you know. It's good to listen to your critics, but only listen to them when they know what they're talking about.

Personally I think you sound good.

I really like the British voices for PR. I think it would be good if the American voices sounded something like that. For example, when playing as British forces, and somebody yells "Fuck i need a medic!" imo it sounds pretty realistic and seems like something you would say if you or somebody else has just been wounded.

Im not really convinced by the new US voice either. The previous werent perfect either but I prefered them already. Im mostly talking about recording quality here, for the rest :

It'd be nice if we could have some natural voice. What I mean there is that the soldiers IRL are just young guys who speak like all of us. They dont spend their time yelling with a voice coming from an hollywood war movie, which is what the US voice actors always tend to do (IMO).

I'm not sure how Hiyy inspired his voices, but I got my inspiration from playing paintball. I'm always screaming at the top of my lungs trying to relay positions to my teammates so I figured that for someone in a real firefight they would probably do the same thing. I think that it added more realism to the atmosphere.

It was odd once in a while when you were in a relaxed environment and you heard someone screaming: "I NEED FUCKING AMMO!" at the top of their lungs. But for those times when bullets were smacking the wall next to your head and you heard people screaming, I thought it made it worth those few awkward moments.

Is it possible to give for example the medic, ar and breacher different voices, spoken in by different people so you get more variety in voices?
Or is this just impossible or to difficult/to much work to achieve?

Yeah its not possible (today atleast) to make vo's seperated into soldier classes. Its only possible to make vo's for factions. Even if I could make class vo's it would create a massive amount of soundfiles cause every command has to be recorded. Also its a pissant job to add Bf2 voice files.

I don't know, I for one thought the original sounded quite cartoonish. I can feel they guy was told "hey, you'll be doing some voice for some videogame, go ahead".

So, yeah, I think the new ones were an improvement.
