I am running Win7 SP1 x64.

I've tried Compatibility Mode for Vista, XP SP2, SP3, and 7, along with Administrator permissions, but still encounter the problem.

The fault module name in the error report is iGdi.dll

sounds like a possible corrupted dll

I would do a system restore first and see if that fixes it, if not, here's some info on the issue.

Hi,

1) Are you getting the error when installing a program?
2) What program you are trying to install?
3) Have you made any software or hardware changes to your computer recently?

To work with this issue, refer these methods:

Method 1:

Run the fixit at the following link: Diagnose and fix program installing and uninstalling problems automatically
Fix problems that programs cannot be installed or uninstalled

Method 2:

Perform a clean boot of the computer.

Clean boot- It?s a process wherein you can start Windows 7 by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

Please refer the following link to obtain information on how to configure Windows 7 to start in a "clean boot" state.
How to perform a clean boot in Windows

NOTE: Ensure you perform the step 7 mentioned under ?Reset the computer to start as usual? after you check if the issue persists in clean boot, at the above link.

Method 3:

Refer the article for information on 32-bit and 64-bit Windows: frequently asked questions 32-bit and 64-bit Windows: frequently asked questions - Windows Help

The program you are trying to install should be designed to work on 64 bit OS.

Check if it helps.

Just tried FixIt; it doesn't detect the BF2 installer and doesn't think that there's a problem.

Clean boot doesn't resolve the issue. When I set msconfig to reboot normally I did get a BEX error for isuspm.exe, so I'm guessing my entire InstallShield has been borked.

I've going to uninstall my antivirus and see what happens.

Uninstalling my antivirus did nothing.

I tried uninstalling update KB2962872 as per this to no avail.

Success!

I have traced the issue to its source and have resolved the problem. It turned out that my InstallShield Update Manager was being blocked by DEP (BEX error) and that basically screwed up every InstallShield Installer that I could try.

For some reason I couldn't change my DEP settings through GUI, so I followed the instructions in this link to add an exception for ISUSPM.exe to DEP.

Now I can start installing BF2.
