Is making a map base off a small town or village or heavy urban area in North America forbidden? I never seen one in a mil sim. Have anyone ever came up on a concept to map one, using of course the armies of CAF and/or the United States National Guard? it's tons of geological locations from urban or wide open environments and I know and understand that would require a lot of hard work and new statics etc. but has anyone here pondered that idea probably making a North America PR map? With CAF vs Russia/China or USNG/USAF Vs China/Russia. It seem like I never seen nobody take up such a task even in the ARMA series it's always been eastern locations or the Middle East.
P.S Russian/China invading a area in Alaska for starters?

CoD and BF2 are the only games who did it AFAIK.
But they are not milisims, so...

People have tried and I think there are 1-2 in the community mapping section, but as you say it needs a complete new set of statics which is very time consuming and hard to come by.

I'm pretty sure there's a community made North America based map for ArmA 2.

I remember people asking for such maps and offering to make them a long long time ago but IIRC they gave up because it would require a lot of new statics so that the map would actually look like it is located in NA and at the same time be decent quality map for PR.
It would definitely be fun to play if anyone ever decided to make one, but it will be a lot of work in order to make it complete and be good quality.

It can be done, just choose a location that doesn't have a lot of needed statics.
We have a desert bigger than Iraq and some of the world's most varied terrain in a single country. If you're creative with it, you can pull this off without too much difficulty.
I can try making basic statics so long as they aren't enterable- I have some time constraints at the moment.

I always thought a desert map taking place along I10 or I15 would be a neat idea.
Think of it as the last stand for the American resistance after the attacking force has established a beach head in Southern California.
Heck there are 1000's of square miles out there that would require no statics.

Yes i agree, from green forest to the hot desert i cant see why no one has tackle this yet.

The point is, deserts and forests look the same regardless if they are in NA or Europe or Asia.

You could even do some place in Canada or Alaska. That would fit in with the "winter theme" maps. Northern Canada in the spring basically looks like Yamalia anyways, tho... lol

I think the issue is: What's the difference betwen a forest map in asia in which the US invades and a forest map in the US in which asia invades? It'd hardly be noticable. To make it truly unique, one would need some 'clearly american' objects.
Dovre uses a bunch of custom new statics to make it seem European, for instance, and it works quite well. The motorway there looks like it could be right outside my door.

Yeah, that's what I was saying, if you want it to look and feel like a NA map, you need to have a lot of statics to remind you where the map is located.

Not necessarily. You could make some unique terrain features that are commonly known to only one (or a few) part(s) of he world, such as the Grand Canyon for US, Ha Long Bay for Vietnam to pick a couple of extreme examples. The problem you then have is making these areas work gameplay wise and why there is a battle taking place there too

This was just from a quick look at Armaholic, didn't find the one I was looking for (I remember seeing this small rural map based on North America, but I couldn't find it), but here's a couple cool ones:
Hawaii, technically not North America, but US territory nontheless:
Lolo Nai'a (Crazy Dolphin) Archipelago, Hawaii - Islands - Armaholic
A couple of military training facilities in the US:
Ft. Benning - Georgia (US Army training base)
Ft. Benning - US Army Infantry School - Islands - Armaholic
MCAGCC 29 Palms - California (USMC training base)
MCAGCC 29 Palms - Islands - Armaholic
And a couple bonus from the UK:
Faffindale, North Yorkshire Dales
Faffindale, North Yorkshire Dales - Islands - Armaholic
Brecon Beacons mountains in South Wales, United Kingdom
UKSF - Brecon Beacons - Islands - Armaholic
Also, on the subject of NA maps for PR. Armored Fury has a lot of good statics, especially those suburb houses from Op Road Rage.

I'm gonna make a map set in Iowa, USA. Wide-open farmland and flat terrain for miles, also, the Armoured Fury statics will work well
